Detailed Reviews
My husband and I have visited the Monteagle Inn frequently over the past 6 years. We enjoy escaping the heat and traffic of the big city and relaxing on Monteagle Mountain. While in the area, we love to hike and check out waterfalls and poke around in the small shops of Monteagle and Sewanee. However, the real highlight of our trip is staying at the Inn. When I walk in the front door of the Monteagle Inn, I immediately feel as if I've been transported to Tuscany and I can practically feel my blood pressure return to a normal rate. The owners, Jim and Lee, are welcoming, kind, funny and extremely helpful. They are available for anything you may need and assist you with a smile. It's been a joy to get to know them over the years. The owners are also wine enthusiasts and host sophisticated and delicious wine pairing dinners. Afterward, you can sit by the fireplace, curl up with a book on a comfy sofa, enjoy the beautiful back patio or relax on a rocking chair on the front porch before you fall into your crisp, clean and comfortable bed. The breakfast is delicious too! I can't say enough good things about the Monteagle Inn.

We had a very relaxing time at the end. All the employees we encountered were super helpful. The room was comfortable and we had everything we needed. The breakfast was great and there are plenty of seating options for social distancing and the fact that the inn only has 14 rooms also helps with this.

The Monteagle Inn is a fantastic place to stay for a quiet couple’s weekend. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The staff member who checked us in was not overly knowledgeable of local restaurants but was able to suggest a couple and the one we tried turned out to be good. Our room was clean and the decor was great. It did take several minutes for hot water in the sink and shower but it did eventually warm up. No tv in our room but there were two TV’s in a gathering area along with a fire place. Coffee, soft drinks and snacks were complimentary and available 24/7. We were the only guests there after the first night and it was fun having the place to ourselves. The breakfast cook was great and she provided a fantastic cook to order breakfast both mornings. There was wine by the glass and bottle available but we did not partake in this. It looked like they had several nice offerings. This B&B is located near many outdoor attractions and we visited nearby Foster Falls, the natural bridge and The Cross at University of the South. We will definitely be back!

Enjoyed a four night stay at the Monteagle Inn and Retreat Center and was very impressed by the lovely venue. The inn is tastefully decorated and impeccably maintained. The expansive grounds and garden area are beautiful. We enjoyed staying in one of the second floor rooms that had its own sitting porch. The inn has wonderful common areas with a nice library and a dining room where we enjoyed the generous and delicious daily breakfasts. Richard, the owner, was helpful in pointing out the local sites of interest. All of the inn staff were very attentive to our needs, especially Natassia. My wife and I found the Monteagle Inn to be an outstanding base from which to explore Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau. You will not be disappointed with this charming and intimate inn!

We didn't want to spend the night in a hotel and expose ourselves to many travelers so we booked a room at this inn. We were the only ones there due to covid-19. We were treated like a King and Queen. We enjoyed a bottle of wine on the grounds and were served a bountiful breakfast. We enjoyed reading in the large gathering area and roaming the inn to see all the artwork on its walls. We even bought stoneware mugs to take home with us. We travel often and this might be the best place we have ever stayed.

My wife and I went to Monteagle Inn for our tenth anniversary and it was the perfect place to celebrate our special weekend. The staff and inn keepers are very friendly and helpful. The food and service are excellent. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff and inn keepers all take prudent COVID precautions including wearing masks at all times. There are also lots of great restaurants, parks, and other attractions to visit in the area. We will defiantly go again.

We enjoyed our stay at Monteagle Inn & Retreat Center. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. We were allowed to check in early. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They made our breakfast to order. I had a fresh fruit plate, a vegetable & sausage omelet w/sweet potato fries (homemade), and freshly squeezed orange juice with coffee. I would recommend!

My daughter needed to come home for a much-needed break after being on the mountain for 10 weeks without being able to leave.
Upon return, while we waited for her test results, we happened to find availability at this most amazing B&B. Lynette is like your long lost relative who welcomed us and anything we needed she was on it. The wine cellar is top-notch and Mr. Hammond knows his stuff. I will stay here again and again and would highly recommend if ever in Sewanee. Thank you guys are the best!

I loved the Monteagle Inn! Such a lovely house and grounds, with each room distinctive and tasteful. Gorgeous courtyard and gardens, plus wonderful big front porch overlooking town.
Maybe the most comfortable bed and softest sheets I’ve had across extensive travels in US and abroad.
The snacks and tea station is available 24-7, & the breakfast was awesome. But what’s most special is the thoughtfulness of the staff. I was traveling alone, returning from a very stressful family situation. Inn was closed for the night but I called the no. on the door and the young woman who arrived shortly welcomed me and gave me my choice of many rooms, as well as great suggestions for dinner nearby. By the time I left the staff felt like new friends. They truly go above and beyond. The WiFi didn’t work in the back wing of the house and the tub stopper was messed up but these little problems were more than made up for by their largesse and hospitality. I’ll be back!

We have a group of 8 guys, who work collectively in the engineering and construction industry. We typically play golf at the Bear Trace and then stay at the Inn. The place is fantastic, feels like you're going back in time. The best thing about the Inn, is that the people who work there are very genuine, and the service is impeccable.
The outside courtyard is great, and it is a perfect place to sit around the fire pit and lie about the golf played earlier.
on a scale of one to five it is well beyond a five.
