Set like a moonstone in the abundant palm forests which frame the idyllic village of San Pancho, the Inn at San Pancho offers abundant gardens, charming casitas, and a cascade pool. Embraced by the colors of Mexico, with jaunty peacock blue skies each morning, and the gaudy sprawl of sunset ushering in each star-filled night, this enchanting Inn with its spectacular vistas weaves days that unfold like magic, and spins memories that will cling forever.

The Nayarit Riviera, the necklace of pueblos north of Puerto Vallarta that rims the Pacific, is arguably the most serene and beautiful stretch of ocean front in Mexico. And arguably the most peaceful and friendly of these pueblos is San Francisco, known to all as San Pancho. (In Mexico, if your name is Francisco, your nickname is almost invariably Pancho; think Pancho Villa!) And, arguably, the most beautiful, private, and meditative place to stay there is the hacienda known as the Inn at San Pancho. This is my 16th visit to the Inn since 2013, and I have written three prior reviews on this site, including one last year when I spent a total of 5 months at the Inn. I initially booked Dec 1 to Mar 31 and returned to my home in Chicago for vaccinations and income tax filing. But after a frigid and gloomy April in Chicago, I returned to the Inn for the month of May! But make no mistake, the great metropolis of Chicago is an urban paradise six months of the year, the finest and most beautiful city in the USA. San Pancho is a beachfront paradise, the yin to the yang of Sweet Home Chicago. I am now in the midst of another 5-month stay here, escaping the Chicago winter again! Each of my reviews of the Inn at San Pancho was laudatory, and it is with good reason that the Inn at San Pancho is ranked #1 among B&Bs and Inns in San Pancho. The hacienda has four unique casitas: Villa V (two bedrooms and a full kitchen), Agave (a one-bedroom apartment with kitchen and a lovely covered veranda, my favorite), Nopal (also a one-bedroom apartment with kitchen and an outdoor patio), and Chica (a charming palapa-roofed cottage with outstanding views of the pueblo and the ocean). Over the years (most of my visits were winter break and spring break when I was a working college professor in Chicago), I have stayed in each of the casitas and each is lovely and comfortable. My family members and other guests during my many stays here have thoroughly enjoyed their visits. As to the Inn overall, it is very private and secure (in a very secure and peaceful pueblo). It is up a small hill from the main avenue of the village (Calle Tercer Mundo) and affords sweeping views of the pueblo, the ocean, and the surrounding hills and jungle. The grounds are lush with flowers and tropical vegetation (many species of palm trees, for example). And the pool, now heated to 80 deg as noted in another review, is simply beautiful, with amazing views of the hills and jungle to the east. The innkeepers, Eileen and Tory, are very intelligent, interesting, and welcoming people who truly value their guests. They have become friends as well. The staff are superb: Sylvia, the diligent, funny, and friendly housekeeper, Juan, a truly intuitive gardener who tends the grounds, and Ramon, the pool keeper, also friendly, skilled, diligent. The pueblo of San Pancho itself is remarkable and full of activities and opportunities: a mile of mostly empty, beautiful, and surf-able beach, a nature preserve elevated from the beach, interesting and approachable boutiques and craft shops, and, for a village of just 1400 people, amazingly good restaurants. My top five are Limbo, Bistro Organico, La Floresta (a block from the Inn), Ikan Cocina Marina, and Pezetarian MX. If you enjoy the beautiful hibiscus flowers all over the grounds of the Inn, you might love the hibiscus tacos at Limbo (hibiscus are known as jamaica flowers in Mexico; yes, like the Caribbean island). But there are at least a dozen other appetizing (and inexpensive) restaurants and taco stands in the village. Los Arbolitos, a bricks-and-mortar taco stand, is a personal favorite. I recommend the Inn at San Pancho, the pueblo of San Francisco, and the Nayarit Riviera with enthusiasm and great affection.

The title says it. I have previously reviewed this fantastic property, but wanted to include an important update. During the past year, Tory and Eileen have added a pool heater to their already lovely swimming pool. This is a game changer. The pool used to be (brrrr) --- er, "refreshing!" Now it's just "ahhhhh" -- a warm 80 degrees or so. Great addition.

We recently had a perfect post-vax getaway to lovely San Pancho, an easy cab ride about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta. On a friend’s recommendation we ended up at the idyllic Inn at San Pancho, located an easy five minutes’ walk fro the downtown area, which hosts many excellent restaurants, and about a 15 minute walk from the beautiful mile-long crescent beach. The Inn is located on a hill and has great views of the beach and jungle. The units are spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed. We enjoyed many gorgeous sunsets from our large private veranda. The pool at the Inn could not be a more perfect place to catch up on your and work on your tan while sipping a margarita or two. Eileen, one of the two innkeepers, lives on site year round and was incredibly gracious and helpful, even giving us a ride to the next town for our covid tests for our return flight to the U.S. We’re already planning our next visit!

As I wrote last year, the Gata Gorda is a wonderful place to stay in San Pancho. The Inn has four accommodations (or "casitas"), each unique and beautiful. Since 2013, I have stayed in all of them, and this is my 14th visit. In the past, as a working college professor, I have always stayed here in January (winter break) and often in March (spring break). I retired in 2020, and resolved to spent the winter in San Pancho, a good call since I live in Chicago. Since December 1, I have been living in Casita Agave, a spacious one-bedroom place with a beautiful covered veranda. Because the Inn is up a small hill from the main street, Agave has stunning views of the pueblo, the surrounding hills, and the Pacific Ocean (which is a ten-minute walk away). All of the casitas have good views both outside and inside! Eileen and Tory, the innkeepers, are interesting, caring, and very responsive, and the Inn has a dedicated staff. The grounds of the Gata Gorda are lush with tropical plants and trees and the pool is a gem. I highly recommend the Inn at San Pancho in a pueblo that is itself vibrant, safe, and unique. San Pancho has many restaurants, taco stands, and shops, even though the population is but 1300. And is not crawling with tourists, as is Sayulita to the south. Consider Mexico, consider the state of Nayarit, consider San Pancho, and if you come here, stay at the Inn at San Pancho. My winter here has been glorious. Saludos, Rich

We loved this place and after Covid 19 we will book it again. Thank you for everything!! We were a couple with ample room, outdoor space, great kitchen (we like to cook a lot) - two more could have easily joined us. One thing that would have been helpful to have is containers for left overs!

Had another wonderful stay at the Inn at San Pancho. Beautiful grounds, a lovely pool, and the rooms are all so comfortable. Eileen and Tori are terrific innkeepers. And their staff are wonderful too. Would highly recommend this for anyone wanting a relaxing place to enjoy a pleasant little town in Mexico.

The Inn at San Pancho has been our favourite winter retreat for many years. The small Inn is an oasis in the lovely town of San Pancho. We love reading by or swimming in the sparkling clean pool, walking to the charming town for a meal or strolling the pristine beach. Eileen and Tory are ideal hosts, welcoming their guests with the kind of warmth that makes one feel like treasured, long-time friends. The casitas are well-appointed, very clean, charming and comfortable. The pool, grounds and gardens are lovingly cared for by their friendly, courteous staff. The town of San Pancho has many fine restaurants and the sunsets are spectacular. We can’t say enough about The Inn at San Pancho, our “home away from home”. We can’t wait to go back!

The Inn at San Pancho (GataGorda) is our home away from home when we visit San Pancho. Location is perfect: just above the center of town with a great view but away from the noise of the village restaurant scene. We don't bother with a car rental because everything is walkable. Eileen and Tory have maintained a great facility with a terrific pool, beautifully landscaped grounds, immaculately clean rooms which are fully equipped for either short or long stays. We like shopping local markets and cooking many of our own meals, so the well equipped kitchens are great. This year, my wife and I were there for two weeks and could share V! (one of the cabanas) with another couple. In the past we have rented 2 or 3 rooms to bring the whole family. I would give it more stars if I could.

We've been to the Inn at San Pancho more times than I can count now (4 or 5...?), both as a couple and with young children. I've even stayed there by myself for five days, I felt so at home and wanted to extend a trip. Each time it's felt like a peaceful sanctuary, perfect distance from the beach and the town (read = away from the noise, but a 5-10 minute walk to everything we want/need), a place to read a book or bring back dinner or just lounge by the pool or on the balcony. The owners will do everything to make your stay a perfect experience. I cannot recommend highly enough.
