I stumbled on Bungalows Lydia online and we weren't sure exactly what it as going to be like. We were so pleasantly surprised. The views are incredible. Perched on a cliff, our room was like a wall of windows so you could see the incredible views from anywhere in the room. We had a private sandy patio and spent the whole first day there, not wanting to leave. We watched the sunset and saw whales in the distance. Access to the private beaches are very accessible, and you feel like you have the place to yourself. The pool is amazing, perched over the views. Our room had a kitchen and it was all in great shape. We had one problem with our bathroom and they fixed it right away. We found the owners Mayte and Lydia to be a joy to talk to, and Mayte pointed out places we could eat downtown. Highly recommend this hidden gem. We will definitely be going back.

I experienced a great joy discovering the superb location of where this hotel lies and a miserable feeling when I found out the terrible state of everything in our room. The main problem lies in maintenance, the so-called manager Maria [-] does absolutely nothing about it, quarrels all the time with Lydia, the owner. Nothing works, the pool, the jacuzzi, the fridge, the water tap, etc. You even have to stand the angry young man Jeremías that works the garden, the security, bell boy and the rest. It’s a real pity to have an extraordinary location with such a poor spot to stay. At my departure I asked for a receipt of the money I payed which they refused to issue.

Do come to enjoy the views, peaceful atmosphere and quaintness of Bungalows Lydia. We read three books in as many days, walked to town to enjoy the San Pancho Music Festival, spent Sunday at the world-class polo facility for brunch and a polo match, and sat on one of two private beaches on the property. Owners, Mayte and Lydia, are tireless in improving the property and providing for guests needs.

Have been coming annually to Bungalows Lydia for twelve years and thought it about time to do an update review. Visited sometimes as a couple, sometimes with a big group of friends, and this year with two friends. We rented the two bedroom unit on the second floor - not sure of the name. Of course the fantastic location has not changed, but every year the sisters do some updates. This time some additional paved parking, lovely handrails on the various stairs around the property, some caged birds that looked very happy. This unit had one room with a king-sized bed and the other with two single beds. Each room had its own bathroom, with the larger one next to the king room. I had the single room to myself and had to call someone to loosen the hot water faucet in the shower, but a strong wrist was all it took and I had plenty of hot water after that. Kitchen equipment at Bungalows Lydia is not always consistent, this time we had to search for a cutting board, but that was produced within minutes. Plenty of mugs, glassware, plates etc. Water was not hot enough in the kitchen but easy enough to boil some up on the two burner range. As usual, a decent sized refrigerator, and a coffee maker. More than enough for a Mexico vacation. We had a balcony overlooking the property and the Pacific beyond. Great for sunset viewing. Not big enough for a table, unlike the other rooms, but great for reading, breakfasts and happy hours. As always, there are some things that could be improved but that were certainly not show stoppers. Some our bed linen was definitely on its last legs, and I prefer a softer pillow, but many of the plentiful towels were new and the maid service was excellent, keeping everything clean and spiffy. If you need or are used to a big resort vacation spot, you will not be happy with Bungalows Lydia. If you do some exploring in San Pancho, you will see that you are in Mexico, not California, and the calm and quiet of Bungalows Lydia, away from the fast expanding San Pancho is just perfect for an away-from-it-all vacation.

We just love Bungalows Lydia!!! After discovering it years ago, it has been a yearly retreat from the activity of Puerto Vallarta. It doesn't get 5 stars for being a Marriott or a Hilton. It is a place to get away and relax!!! Bring a book, listen to the waves, watch the sunset. It's a tough decision every day as to which beach tovisit---- the North or the South. But why not both!!! There are a variety of rooms, some older some newer, some larger (and therefore some smaller!!!). The kitchen areas may be indoor or outdoors, not fancy but very workable. Large refrigerator, gas cooktop, bottled water (run out??? Quickly replaced). Sometimes we didn't have a coffee pot, but one was quickly delivered when requested. Mayte and Lydia the 2 sisters that own the place, are very accommodating and friendly. The bathrooms vary from room to room. We enjoy the Panoramic Suite because of it's 180 degree view, and the sound of the ocean crashing on the rocks below, but it's one of the older units and the bathroom is, well, maybe rustic (that's part of the rustic elegance!!!). Don't expect the Hilton, but it's quite sufficient. It's a ways from the hot water heater, too, and you might have to wait for hot water, but that's not why we come to Bungalows Lydia!!! Rustic elegance. That's why we return. Which reminds me, need to work on our reservations for our 7th visit---- or is it our 8th visit???
