I've been visiting Ital Rest for 2 decades. It is the perfect get-a way: peaceful, beautiful, and the family is friendly and attentive. While off the beaten track, they can assist you with transportation. Keisha will cook for you- the best deal around: authentic Jamaican at a fair price. This is not for the all-inclusive crowd, but rather for the adventurer, interested in the real Jamaica. Bring your books, swim suit, knitting, (quiet activities) and your best walking shoes so you can roam the beautiful beaches and the village of Treasure Beach.
Ital Rest is a unique, rustic place to check out of modern western life. Getting there involves a long taxi drive, as do any day outings that are more than hiking distance away. That's not too much of a problem though, because hanging around the lovely grounds and walking a couple hundred yards to the nice, horse shoe shaped beach is very satisfying. There is a pretty constant breeze, which keeps the bugs away. Sitting in the shade with binoculars is very enjoyable lazy man's bird watching. A fresh produce seller stops by several times per week. That, combined with basic ingredients from a local store, allow one to toss together simple meals in the basic kitchen. Your hosts, Frankie, Jeanne, and Keisha, and their extended family , are down to earth nice people. This is not a Club Med destination, but I recommend it.…
A unique treasure, and ital food to match! Not to mention those plum trees on the property from which my husband and I lovingly picked from, and the beautiful beach just a few minutes walk away. I would go there again except bring along a fan as it got pretty warm.
Feeling stressed? Spend time here. There is no power or hot water but you can recharge items at the main house but who cares. Spend your day in the hammock, wandering the grounds and the beach that is only a 2 minute walk away. Listen to the waves laying in bed and sleep like a baby. Let Keisha do the cooking and you won't be sorry, we have never eaten so much. The food out beats any restaurant and is authentic Rasta food. Everyone is so friendly, you may get invited out for dinner or a party, whatever....we came home feeling so much better.
2017 will be my 7th year! Keisha, Frankie, Jeanne and Shaka are like family to me now. This is not the place for you if you want "amenities" but if you someone who likes a camping-like experience and the beach to yourself then this is the place to go. It is a place with fresh healthy food and lots of opportunity to swim on a secluded beach and take long walks in nature. Definitely have Keisha fix meals for you, her cooking is authentic and delicious.
