Stayed here for the weekend. Stuart, owner, was the friendliest host we've ever met. The staff were fantastic, smiling, chatty, knowledgeable about the local area, and they really couldn't do enough for us. The hotel doesn't serve evening meals but advised on local takeaways that would deliver. The room was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom with its blue lights was funky. Excellent shower. The car park is right outside the door and it's a 10 min walk into the centre of Monmouth and a 15 min drive to Symonds Yat. The locals and especially the night porter (didn't catch his name) were really friendly, and shared lots of funny stories. Oh, and the cooked breakfast was amazing!

This is a lovely hotel run by lovely people. The room we had was well equipped and the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was included and the service in the dining room was excellent. Overall we were made to feel really welcome and would happily return.

This hotel is located just over the River Wye from Monmouth town centre, but it’s easily walkable in 10 minutes. The bar downstairs was fairly quiet on Sunday/Monday evenings, but the locals there were friendly and helpful. Our second floor room was quite compact but beautifully furnished, and the shower was excellent. Full welsh or continental breakfast available - both were pretty good and the breakfast lady is lovely.

We had a good couple of nights here and found the hotel well located for Monmouth and the surrounding countryside. One local asked what the place was like as "it doesn't look much from the outside", which sums it up. It looks a little tatty on the outside and the bar isn't great (one ale only), though the inside is very clean and recently refurbished. Our room was well equipped, with a very nice shower room, though a bit more money could have been invested in the mattresses in our twin. The information advised that your room would be tidied each night, though this didn't happen and when we queried it we were told the hotel was short-staffed. Breakfast was nicely cooked, with reasonable coffee.
