The owners and staff were very attentive and polite. The accommodation is very clean and finished to a high quality. Extremely comfortable bed. I am 9 months pregnant and we had a superior room, which was lovely. I needed extra pillows and de caf tea and all were supplied no problem. The restaurant food was delightful, and decent sized portions.... More

Lovely Sunday lunch here - and a bit different from a standard version. I chose the pork loin and it came on a gorgeous pearl barley risotto. Beautiful little village, very picturesque and the pub is in the centre. Would recommend.

Nice for a short break, book early if you wish to visit in August. Perhaps September would be a ideal time. Do not follow the Sat/NAV, turn off at Chirk.Follow the owners instructions to the letter. We trusted the sat/nav which was a total mistake as it took us all around lanes and cows coming back for miking. Only room... More

Popped in here this afternoon with family for a drink. Warm welcome and lovely place. Quite a "find" and we will come back again for longer next time. Looked delightful for a short break. It was the warmth of the welcome that we found so nice. Would love to have stayed longer and had a meal.

Stayed overnight celebrating a family birthday. The food is excellent and rooms, although on the small side, are very clean with all facilities. The staff are welcoming and the bar is comfortable. We were in a large party of 20 people, including children, and all were sequestered for. There is even a dog's room so you can bring your pet.... More

This is my fourth or fifth visit in the last two years and The Hand just gets better and better. As a single traveller with dog I'm not sure who gets the best welcome my hound or myself. The hospitality you receive here in the middle of nowhere is second to none. Coupled with fantastic food, wonderful wine and relaxing... More

I finally got round to returning to this wonderful little place a couple of weeks ago. I had been meaning to visit again for a while but for various reasons had not been able to until now. I have to say The Hand is even better than I remember; the new changes are a huge credit to an already wonderful... More

This hotel is located in a small village right in the heart of some beautiful Welsh countryside and is accessed by narrow, windy roads but the challenge is worth the effort. The hotel looks small from the outside but don't be fooled as inside is spacious with a nice rural bar at the front and a beautiful restaurant at the... More

Great location, friendly good service, good food. A little overpriced for the standard of room. Our one turned out to be a dog friendly room which I did not like. I do not want to stay in a room where miscellaneous dogs have been. The bathroom was also well kitted out for disabled guests which made it rather like a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hand is an ancient hostelry with all the attributes you'd expect - bags of character, a cosy, relaxing ambience and a warm welcome from your hosts, Jonathan and Jackie Greatorex. As soon as you arrive you feel the weight of the world dissolving as the surroundings work their magic. All the classic ingredients are here - old beams, roaring fireplaces, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale and good food. The latter is seriously good. Thanks to the talents of Head Chef Grant Mulholland and his team, The Hand is renowned for award-winning food, an inventive marriage of country fare and sophisticated metropolitan cuisine. The bedrooms, in a variety of sizes, reflect similar influences, with rustic decor and sparkling modern bathrooms. Country lovers just love the location. You can walk in the Berwyns for hours with only the sheep for company and the ever-helpful Hand can arrange many country pursuits, including horse riding, fishing and shooting. You may be away from it all, but you'll also be in the swing of things; this gem of a country inn is so much a part of village life that locals and visitors mix in unaffected harmony. ... more   less
