Want to visit somewhere that has the peace and quiet of the countryside with food that is so good it would rival any city based quality restaurant? Then stay at this hotel. Staff were exceptionally welcoming, the owner is really nice and the service was top notch. The food on offer, though, was the big selling point and the chef... More

A great many thanks to our recent guests who have given The West Arms such a glowing report. Fortunately, we are blessed here with an excellent team of committed and hard working staff so it is always rewarding to receive confirmation that we are looking after our guests so well. More

We stayed here overnight with our family to celebrate an Anniversary. What a find!! The hotel is absolutley beautiful with a log fire in a quaint inglenook fire place. All the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I was allocated room 1 which is just gorgeous with stunning views of this lovley part of wales. We... More

We booked The West Arms for our wedding location over a year in advance. Communication leading up to the event was great and happy with the plans. On the day, Phil, Grant and the rest of the staff / team excelled and they made our special day magical. Special mention to Ed for sorting out music to walk down the... More

I was at the West Arms with my partner recently, our rooms were changed from downstairs, to upstairs, my room was tired, needed decorating, some of the staff were execellent, whilst one of the managers was rather off hand and gossipy behind our backs, which was unprofessional. The food was varied, some strange flavours put together, breakfast was small, but... More

The welcome, cuisine, ambience and location of the West Arms Hotel - which recently retained its 4 star status - speak for themselves. However, I am concerned by the accusation that a staff member was gossiping! This would be wholly out of character for any one of our team of professional and pleasant staff, who are regularly praised as regularly... More

Yes, the hotel does need some refurbishment but there are still some outstanding features about the West Arms. The location is perfect for exploring the nearby attractions by car, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Chirk Castle to name but two. The area is crisscrossed with excellent walks and the valley is so peaceful. The food at the hotel is outstanding whether... More

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year, and I have been carefully thinking about my review for quite a while, as I'm loathe to criticise. Especially amongst so many fantastic reviews, which shows that the inn pleases many! We too found our meals very good, and the waiting and bar staff very helpful. The entrance area with its lovely... We stayed in this remote farmers watering hole for four nights and found the two downstairs rooms we occupied both had a lot of damp in them, the first room was below ground level and the damp had penetrated the plaster and where their is damp you get damp loving insects such as silver fish and wood lice both of... This property is well over 500 years old and, as such, is not completely devoid of maintenance issues in isolated areas despite our very best efforts to keep on top of them. Please do not overlook that we are deep in the countryside, and the odd little unpaying friend is a part and parcel of day-to-day rural living. It is... More

A 400 year old inn means character, wonky stairs, no lift & maybe low ceilings. It had all these and was lovely. The staff were very friendly but unfortunately the young ladies serving need more training if they're going to work in the bar! If you ask for a scotch & coke, you don't expect the girl to go scurrying off... More

What a gem - just a few miles from Llangollen, this is a beautiful old inn with lovely ales and superb food. Way above your average pub grub. The room we stayed in was steeped in history with a 4 poster bed. The staff are welcoming and highly attentive. All in all a lovely break in a breathtakingly picturesque part... More

We must write and say what a wonderful party we had at The West Arms Hotel to celebrate our Silver Wedding at the end of July (Saturday 30th July, 2016). Our family and friends are still coming back to us to say how much they enjoyed the occasion, the beautiful setting and the helpfulness of the Staff. Particular praise was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The West Arms is a traditional Olde Inn (16th Century) with beams and uneven slate flagged floors, roaring open fires and low ceilings. It offers an abundance of warmth and charm with quirky individuality. No bedrooms are the same. We are a privately owned business with a wealth of experience, offer a friendly informal welcome. We have 15 bedrooms, a superb Chef who has a great pedigree, lovely friendly staff and are situated in a beautiful location. If you want a bland boutique modern hotel with a lack of soul, The West Arms is not the place for you! ... more   less
