We stumbled upon Castle Cottage on a random road trip last weekend. We were made to feel extremely welcome and booked into a well appointed room overlooking the castle. The room had everything one could ask for including fresh fruit, water and ample teas and coffees. We decided to dine in the restaurant that evening. The first thing that came to my mind was "How did we not know about this place?!". The menu was well balanced and the food, mainly locally sourced fare, was top drawer. We both started with the lobster and prawn bisque which was quite simply divine. For mains we had the lamb (to die for - cooked to perfection) and the pheasant schnitzel (absolutely scrumptious). Our shared dessert of treacle tart was also perfection. All in all every dish was well balanced, well presented and cooked perfectly. Nice ambience too in a lovely presented restaurant with separate well stocked bar. The other delight was the wine list. The proprietors had clearly hand picked and nurtured it over the years, and the hardest thing was choosing a bottle - so many excellent choices! We chose a bottle of the 2011 Chateau Musar. Hard to find, excellent value and sensational. If you love your wines you will love this place. After a blissful sleep we had a wonderful cooked breakfast (loved the Welsh breakfast with laverbread) before heading off to see the local sights. I'd highly recommend this place and hope to be back soon. Well done!…
Had been wanting to eat here for quite some time. The opportunity finally presented last weekend. We were made to feel very welcome, parking was explained and a spot taken right outside. The room was lovely with everything we could want, including really great views. Dinner was wonderful (we opted for the tasting menu) - the highlight was definitely the venison but it was all prepared, cooked and served with expertise and care. We had the bonus of the extra hour too! Breakfast did not disappoint. There was a great choice of fresh fruit and the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and toasted brioche was amazing. This was our first visit but very much hope it will not be the last. Thank you for a great experience.
Visited with my husband to sample the special 30th anniversary menu and we were not disappointed. Our 4th visit to this restaurant with rooms and the food has been gorgeous every time . Great selection for each course, the taster platter in the bar while trying to choose from the menu. Varied wine list catering for all tastes, just sorry that we were not staying for breakfast this time!
Visit recently for second visit this year. As always is was a fantastic treat. Food was best ever. Scallops to start, every mouthful was amasing. Even had a fish main, grilled lobster with thermidor sauce. Made all the better with excellent service from Jackie. Always feel at home and still going after 15 years and never disappointed.
First of all can I just say how friendly and attentive the owners are! Really lovely.. A***** to the chef too the lobster & monkfish are absolutely delicious!!! My mouth waters just thinking of it! The rooms are fabulous too like a little self contained flat, well presented, spotless & comfortable 👌🏼 We were down for a wedding in Portmeirion but to be honest we couldn’t wait to get back & just chill!! We Will definitely be going back when I’m not 8 months pregnant!.. So we can enjoy some hiking etc in the area. Harlech Castle looks great to explore too which is literally on the doorstep.. Thanks for a lovely stay!
