This hostel is cheap, has a clean kitchen, and a spirit of community -they assign you chores, but don't feel forced to do them. Right by it, there is the delicious Java Cabana Coffee -try the mocha! And while it is not downtown, it is in the neighborhood of bakeries and record stores.

When you stay here you LITERALLY help feed people. This hostel is associated with the nearby church, and uses basically all of YOUR money to feed the less fortunate. So if you have a soul at all, you will stay here ;) It's also a cool hostel. As a self-proclaimed hostel expert (stayed in about 50 and worked in 3)... More

Probably the strangest place I've been in my life. Firstly it's really difficult to get into the building, a stranger let us in as he was leaving. Then we were told we could pay by cash or card. When we said cash the guy said they prefer card. Why ask? Then we got the tour. A definite highlight was being... More

I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights. When I booked I didn't realize it was associated with the church and in the church grounds. The hostel itself was very spacious with lots of common area and the rooms and bathrooms were very clean. The staff were very friendly and you could make pancakes for free for breakfast. You had... It isn't clinical and perfect, but a good hostel had charm and character like this. You are expected to do a chore each day, but they tell you this on their website and on arrival. The staff are helpful and friendly. It's clean and has a good library. It is also located in midtown Memphis, which is supposed to be... More

I stayed here for 3 nights and didn't have a problem. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I loved the fact you had to do a small chore each day. There was free wifi and breakfast and the place was pretty secure. It's a bit run down, but who cares if all you want is a cheap bed... More

Just returned home from spending 6 great days in Memphis, at the Pilgrim House Hostel. This was my first experience at a Hostel, and was very pleasantly surprised. The staff were so kind and helpful, getting me up to speed with everything, and helping me with anything I needed. The facility was always safe and each public and private room... More

We were here for three weeks, and had absolutely no trouble with it at all - if you wake up between 9 and 11 there's free breakfast in the kitchen - the staff was friendly and welcoming. you have to do small chores each day, but it's very small things like: "wipe off the kitchen counter" and can be done... We stayed here for two nights and had no real issues but nothing outstanding either, however as it's the only hostel in Memphis you don't have much choice. Bad points -A little grubby -Staff could be friendlier -You need to do a daily chore (not a big deal e.g. water plants) -Beds aren't great Good points -Great location -Nice outside... More

Our student writing travel program spent one night here. The first thing we noticed as we came in was that there were dirty sheets on several beds that the staff had to quickly remove. The "clean" sheets we then set up were stained. We looked through the drawers and found a pair of used false eyelashes. Next we went to... More
