Actually it was Feb 2012 the last time we were there and the hotel was closed. We have visited in 2010 and 2011 and it was an out of this world experience (in a good way) Sadly the last owner seems to have lost the plot and Tomdoun closed - I almost bought the place in 2000 but opted for... More

I've never stayed at this hotel but have called in for meals and a drink after walking in the Knoydart penninsular. I always found the hotel to be very welcoming towards walkers as well as fishermen and tourists. In May 2011 I called in for a barmeal and was told by the manager that he'd had such a successful bank... More

My wife and I had an unpleasant experience trying to stay at this hotel (of which we have happy memories from many years ago) in September 2012. Despite taking our deposit when we booked earlier in the year, when we turned up late in the evening after a long drive, it was obvious that the hotel has been abandoned some... More

I've known Mike at the Tomdoun for a while now and, whilst having taken many a pint and meal in the bar during fishing trips on Loch Loyne, hadn't had a chance to stay in the hotel until recently. Manys the time I'd left the warmth of the bar to head back up the track for the wonders of a... More

If you are seeking a modern, ultra-luxurious hotel with a fantastic spa in which charming young ladies, dressed as dental nurses, will place warm and cold stones, individually-selected from South Sea Island beaches, along your spine before giving a full manicure and pedicure, and spraying you from head to foot with the latest tanning aid, this is just the place... On arrival we were greated by 2 whoofing black labs, and a friendly welcome from the owner and staff. We were shown to our room whcih... More

If you are looking for a great place to stay in the remote parts of Scotland, then this is it. The views from the front of the hotel are spectacular, and you are within easy reach of some great walking, including several munroes. If you want to fish then the hotel will put you in touch with Pete Thomas who... More

A stay at the Tomdoun feels like being part of the cast in a British drama of a certain era and it is all about the experience. The combination of the Hotel, the stunning surroundings and Mike, his family and staff put it in a special category of unique experience which we will not hesitate to repeat. On arrival, we... More

We stayed at Tomdoun back in August for the bank holiday weekend. Such a tranquil and remote setting was ideal for a short break from London. There is excellent hiking, mushrooming and cycling nearby. The hotel itself conjures images of times past with the sweeping drive and traditionally decorated interior. Some may criticise the slightly faded appearance of the place,... More

Its unsuprising that the Tomdoun seems to polarise opinion amongst reviewers. it really is as far from a mediocre hotel stay as one could imagine and hearks back to an era of quirky shining-esque hotels with squeeky floorboards, bibulous staff and a full complement of ghosts... The owner and staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, this is a place... More
