Perfectly situated for the railway station. Family run hotel with family values. Somewhat tired in appearance but welcoming friendly staff and lovely meals. Enjoyed swimming in the hotel pool and learning about the history of the place especially curling. The train journey from Kilmarnock to Stranraer was beautiful.

I am sure that when it was built it was a great hotel, the problem is that it was never updated. People on the reception were really nice, couldn't fault them in everything. When you get your room key, instead of the card key, you start to have an idea what you will find in the room. And you won't... More

Called in for lunch while waiting on ferry. We had our young daughter with us who had been in the car for a long while & was not in the best of form. We went through to the bar area and were warmly welcomed by the staff. The lady in particular went out of her way to make us feel... More

Lovely, fairly typical non-city Scottish hotel. Very clean. The staff were excellent. Rooms were quite good value, as was the three course dinner, which was also good cuisine. I found the dinner table settings a little random ( some had bread, some didn't, some had flowers, some didn't, not all cutlery there and so on), staff happily brought what was... More

Needed somewhere to stay in stranraer for a funeral and my partner found what he said was a good deal in hotels there. (there isn't much choice) so we decided to stay here. The hotel is impressive from the outside, like a nice villa. Upon entry you are first greeted by an overpowering smell of damp and just general old... More

Booked for golf trip. Not sure what to expect, but traditional Scottish hotel, very comfortable rooms, excellent food and nothing too much trouble for the staff from reception through to the bar and the dining room. Best of all, the 3 day package was amazing value for B&B plus evening meal and the golf booked for you. It's a pity... More

This is a wonderful hotel. I have been staying here for work since December of last year from Monday to Friday morning each week. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms comfortable, well furnished and have great facilities and the food served in the restaurant is delicious. Evening meals are filling and very well cooked and the morning breakfast... More

We stayed for 4 nights on a half board basis and found the place to be very satisfactory. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Our only negative comments are: The heating in the room we stayed in (Loch View Twin) was quite unpredictable - turning the radiators on did not necessarily mean they heated up! There was no wifi in... More

Having read website and previous reviews had hoped this hotel might have scored high for customer service but sadly no. Property has an excellent look and feel to it, arrival and reception was okay, ate in dinning room where food was satisfactory but service very average. The adjacent bar area was understaffed. I think a night porter was drafted in.... More
