Duns Castle is a magical place with wonderful hosts! Aline and Alick Hay have been at this business of entertaining guests from all over the world for a very long time with their unique hospitality and providing their historic home as a fabulous backdrop for any event be it a wedding, birthday party, conference, cottage rental or New Year's Eve... We rented the whole castle and loved the estate itself, but the awful treatment we got from the hosts didn't make up for it. The food was worse that in a boarding school and scarce, although we were paying a lot of money for every meal. We did not have any privacy, and the owners would constantly wonder around us.... The first thing to say about this review is that the figures quoted are totally wrong: the total bill for a 3-nightstay for 28 people was £11,050 {£90 bed and breakfast per person per night in the castle,£30 per night per person in the cottage) The rest was for dinner one night fo r28, three lunches for 28 and the... We had our wedding at this beautiful Castle and all I can say is wow. We have just received our wedding pictures back and the memories we have of this location for the rest of our lives is just amazing. Lots of great places to walk and see with lots of character. So quiet. We felt like royalty. All our... More

Duns is simply the best! A warm welcome for the weary traveller and really great yummy food served at breakfast lunch tea and dinner. All rooms are well appointed, furnished with lovely antiques and paintings and all of them are different - 4 posters in some and lovely expansive views over fields, gardens or the lake. Bathrooms are refurbished and... More

If you want to stay in one of Scotland's prettiest and family owned castles, don't pass this up. The family is very hospitable and the rooms are the best. You can stay in your budget with the different options you have. You have breakfast and dinner with your hosts and tea in the drawing room. I have taken friends and... More

This is an incredible place for a large group to come together for a celebration. I was lucky to be included. We stayed in the Pink Dressing Room and the accommodation was perfect. The Hay family does a remarkable job (including in this case catering for 45+) and you only have to speak for a moment with them to understand... More

I cannot say enough about Dun's Castle, and our very gracious hosts, Mr. And Mrs. Hay. My husband and I were part of a group of artists, photographers, and filmmakers; all of whom had the privilege of staying, and soaking in all of the luxury the castle had to offer, for six nights. As a group of experienced travellers, we... More

A truly spectacular and unique location, with very friendly and accommodating owners. A great location for that special occasion in the wonderful Borders of Scotland. Surrounded by spectacular scenery wherever you go. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

My family and I celebrated New Year at Cedar Cottage. It was lovely and clean very spacious and in a beautiful setting. Would recommend going there. The only negative I would say is that it is not well signposted. 28/12/14 - 4/1/15
