Balmaha is charmingly situated on Loch Lomond and a perfect stop along the WHW. Eat dinner and have beverages at the Oak Tree Inn....but stay directly across the street at Bay Cottage!!! The sitting room invites you and afternoon tea with an assortment of homemade treats awaits you after your trek or drive-----and the freshly prepared(delicious) full breakfast is just... More

Stayed at Bay Cottage on our second night walking the WHW - we arrived mid afternoon and Liz welcomed us and served the most delicious afternoon tea of cakes, scones and millionaires shortbread. We had a lovely warm comfortable room overlooking Loch Lomond which was very clean. In the morning the breakfast was delicious and set us up for the... More

A stay at bay cottage is definitely worth every penny. My friend and I were doing the WHW and had an amazing time in Balmaha. We enjoyed the delicious, rich breakfast as much as a relaxing bath in the hot tub. Liz is a very friendly and kind, she had visitors the day we arrived and invited us to have... More

Stayed at Bay cottage having travelled to Balmaha for a friend's 60th party and was extremely impressed with the warm welcome and personal service from our host Liz. Greeted with afternoon tea including home made scones and pancakes which was a lovely treat after a couple of hours drive. Beautiful location, comfortable room, A1 breakfast - a cut above in... This was one of the best b&bs we stayed in on our two week visit to Scotland. Liz was a wonderful host, and made our stay most welcoming. Afternoon tea each day was fabulous, and the breakfast even better--you couldn't ask for more. Liz even treated me to a taste of some great local gin! We didn't use the hot... More

Three of us stayed here whilst completing the West Highland Way in August. It was a perfect location after a 20 mile walk! Liz was extremely friendly and welcoming and provides a high quality bed and breakfast. We were greeted with afternoon tea, served with freshly made scones and other delicious home cooked snacks! We stayed in the studio which... More

We stayed here during our walking holiday of the West Highland Way. We actually finished up in Rowardennan that day, but due to lack of available accommodation we had a taxi back to Balmaha arranged for our stay. When we arrived Liz gave us a tour, showed us how to use the hot tub and treated us to some homemake... More

Five of us stayed here on our first night walking West Highland Way. From the afternoon tea to use of hot tub it was perfect after a day using muscles that don't often walk so far! The annexe above the garage and the two other separate chalet style rooms had everything you'd need. Room above the garage particularly spacious. We... More

We stayed here on the first night of our West Highland Way trip and couldn't have had a better experience. We were welcomed with a fresh pot of tea, homemade cakes, caramel shortbread and pancakes with jam, which we ate in the garden overlooking Loch Lomond. We were a party of 8 who stayed for 2 nights in Bay cottage. The accommodation was brilliant - a huge studio and patio area for our 2 small grandsons and their parents, and 2 adjacent rooms in the annexe for the rest of the family and our dog. Breakfast was amazing - we took photos! Liz the owner even... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Liz Bates moved to Balmaha in 1986 & has called it home ever since. Shortly after moving she opened up her home as a Bed & Breakfast to weary walkers, tourists, fishermen & anyone who needed a room for the night. Twenty five years later & she's still greeting guests from day one back into her home with tea, scones, home baking & her legendary hospitality - with the welcome addition of a hot tub & a few more mod cons to bring the 200 year Cottage into the 21st century. Along the road she has seen countless things & told many a story, served thousands of breakfasts, baked enough scones for the entire Jubilee celebrations, washed & dried any soggy walkers clothes who turned up on her door, fought of the dreaded midge & made a good few friends - all in the name of Bay Cottage Bed & Breakfast and Liz Bates. If you are walking The West Highland Way or visiting the east side of Loch Lomond then you will find Balmaha a lovely village lying at the foot of Conic Hill, which forms part of the West Highland Way Route. The picturesque bay is sheltered and is a perfect haven for sailing and many other water sports. The Village offers many facilities for visitors and walkers and has a large free car park in the centre. Bay Cottage is located opposite The Oak Tree Inn which has a fine reputation for beer and food and is open all year round. At Bay Cottage we welcome walkers, cyclists or anglers and have all the facilities for muddy boots and wet clothing after a long day outdoors. We also have a Hot Tub on the decking which is freely available to all our guests. Costumes and dressing robes are available if you need them. Afternoon tea and home made scones can be served in the conservatory on arrival or after a hard days walking and is included in our bed and breakfast charge. Bay Cottage is a wonderful base for exploring Loch Lomond or visiting the Trossachs with its many miles of cycling and walking routes. We are only 7 miles from Rowardennan and the start point for those wanting to climb Ben Lomond, the most southerly Munro (mountain over 3000ft, 910 metres) in Scotland. We also have drying facilities for boots and clothing if you have been caught in the rain or taking part in water sports on the Loch. Balmaha is a quiet and peaceful village but is only 40 minutes from the centre of Glasgow or just over an hour from Edinburgh. Whatever your reason for visiting this beautiful area we will try to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible and look forward to welcoming you to Bay Cottage in Balmaha. ... more   less
