We firstly visited the Tobermory hotel for an afternoon hot drink following a boat trip which left us feeling rather cold! We were greeted with a smile and welcome and the service was excellent even suggested adding in a baileys to the hot chocolate which was most welcome. The hot chocolate could have done with being a tad warmer, but on the whole a good experience. We then visited again for a pre booked dinner, this experience wasn't quite so good, we went to choose our food off the menu, which apparently had changed from the one advertised on their website and was primarily fish (which I understand due to its locality, however, the website needs to be updated with the correct menu). As we are not fish eaters we decided to eat at the local pub instead. Our third visit was for our one night stay. We arrived fairly late (7.15 pm) having been out all day, we were shown to our room, all the windows were open but we did notice an unpleasant smell to it. Knowing we needed to shower and get to our dinner booking for 8.00 pm at the local pub, we litterally jumped in the shower and rushed out, having closed all the windows behind us. After dinner we stopped in the bar of the Tobermory to have a drink eventually going up to our room just after 10.00 pm. As we walked in the room the smell just hit us, there was no way we could sleep in there. So my husband went to see the Manager, who was very apologetic offering us a drink which we declined. He said he didn't know what to do he was fully booked, he had one room, but the person hadn't arrived yet, he then went to try to get hold of the person. A few minutes later he came back up to ask us to pack up and we could move to an alternative accommodation up the road, whilst we were packing he came back up to say the other person wasn't now coming to the other room and we could move to that instead. The manager was extremely apologetic the whole time and said he would get someone in the next day to look at the problem. The room we moved to was slightly smaller, but no smell and had the most comfortable bed. The hotel looks like it has been refurbished recently, carpets and bathrooms looked modern and new. The only one criticism of the ensuites are that neither room had opaque windows and had no curtain or blinds. I personally would prefer a bathroom with either opaque glass or blinds. Breakfast were good well cooked and well served. I gave the four star rating because overall I felt it was better than 3 stars despite the issues which were resolved.

The room was lovely. Spacious, beautiful view over the harbour. Room did get hot at night, however on the 3rd floor, so not unexpected. Bed was comfortable with fresh, clean linen. En-suite was nice, however if you are tall, showering may have been tricky due to low ceilings. Polite staff throughout. Dinner on the first night was good. The haggis starter was delicious! However, felt the food was slightly overpriced. We dined there on the second night, thought we had booked a slot, however nothing was recorded. The staff were able to squeeze us in at a different time. Service was not as prompt on the second night, staff looked incredibly busy. The breakfast each morning was lovely. We both had the continental and cooked food. No faults. Overall a pleasant stay.

Disappointing. Staff are friendly and helpful but I thought that this hotel offered poor value for money. The room was really small with no room around the bed and not even space for a chair. The location is good but didn’t make up for the price of this hotel. The food is ok but expensive.

Lovely hotel, full of character (without being pretentious) in a great, central location in Tobermory. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. We talked to the owner himself, who was eager to recommend good walks and restaurants in the area. The hotel’s bar was lovely and served up a perfect martini for me even though it wasn’t on the menu! Comfy beds and good customer service!

Very good location, lovely decor in the room, room was small but it is converted from fishermen’s cottages so I found it quaint. The water pressure was not brilliant, but again a shared water system so understood. The food in the restaurant was as another reviewer commented, 5* price and 3*, I talked to the owner who was very defensive and not interested in my opinion. 2 other guests were at the fish and chip place at the end of the pier where we ate the last night, I could not face paying another night, the eye watering prices for the very mediocre food. Staff not properly trained, could not answer any of my questions about the food, when paying £26 for a main I like a whole service. I was told they were paying £1.50 per langoustine so £26 was a fair price for 6 with some chips and lettuce leaves with a vile dressing. The crab starter was inedible with a stale potato scone, the breakfast mushrooms tasted of stale cooking oil. The kipper however was delicious. I don’t like to diss a place when they’ve had such a hard time, but when I wasn’t listened to sorry could not avoid a poor review.
