Spent weekend with a couple of mates. We arrived at reception and waited and waited and waited until someone noticed 3 envelopes on the desk. The only time we saw a member of staff was at breakfast. We became aware that the hotel is up for sale which makes sense at it requires some investment.

This is a difficult review to write. I was aware of its 'Fawlty Towers' reputation, but it was the only place I could book for the two nights I wanted. Reviews here say it's noisy due to the public bar downstairs, but when I arrived the bar and restaurant were dark and my key to Room 3 awaiting me on... More

The first thing I am going to say is the staff are lovely working very hard under difficult circumstances. They are trying to make the best of a bad job. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Like previous reviews we were told on arrival no restaurant meal or alcohol, only bed and breakfast, breakfast was very nice though. We... More

We booked this online believing we had booked into a hotel. On arrival we were told it was now only a bed and breakfast.... But still charging the same! False advertising online as it still says it has a bar etc. I waited for almost an hour to speak to a member of staff but no one available. Needless to... More

Really nice people, clean rooms, good service. The Breakfast was especially good and friendly every day. Very convenient to restaurants, the Ferry Terminal and 3 of the better Whiskey Distilleries. The only thing that prevented a better rating was the wifi service, just can't handle the necessary load of guests.

Clearly in trouble this is the worst hotel I have stayed in for some time. If I could have rated zero I would. Staff are good people but as disheartened and worn down as the presentation of the hotel itself. Myself and friends went to Islay for a whisky weekend. We are all mature guys and booked several rooms. The... More

We wouldn't have had nice weekend so thank you to both... More

Stayed at hotel for a few days in connection with a work visit top Islay. The hotel is very dated and colleagues staying other places in Port Ellen had something much nicer. The room I was in was OK but everything else in dire need of renovation. Breakfast is a full Scottish breakfast but very dull - tomatoes and beans... More

In need of a touch of renovation, but fairly clean, and friendly enough staff. Great setting and a beautiful building. Breakfast was mediocre at best. Fried tinned tomatoes and sausages that tasted mainly of flour. Bacon tasted as if it had been steamed rather than fried. Eggs and black pudding well prepared and tasty, though.

The title pretty much sums it up. Went in to the hotel for a quick drink and use the wi-fi. The staff member behind the bar was disinterested and it seemed like too much trouble to serve drinks. She rolled her eyes when we first came in, gave one word answers to questions such as 'do you have wi-fi'. I... More
