Walking into the hotel the perfect gentleman at reception heard our accents and said you must be Boyle. This set the scene for a well attended start to a two night stay. The restaurant was booked out but we're advised the bar food was the same so we opted to eat there. After heading to room 12 with the spa... More

We think this hotel is lovely. Obviously it has been refurbished fairly recently to a high standard and the rooms were very comfortable and modern with traditional touches. Dinner on both nights was exceptional and served by friendly staff who advised us of the local drinks. There was also absolutely no problem in providing a gluten and dairy free menu... More

On a Saturday night, this hotel fails because it needs to be too many, conflicting, personalities to recoup recent investment. Local's drinking spot, stag venue, coffee shop, live music venue, smart restaurant or boutique hotel? Unfortunately it missed the mark on all but the first two, at a cost 50% more than the 4* hotel we stayed at in central... More

Spent 2 nights in The Islay Hotel, which I'm sad to say certainly did not meet its 4* billing...Whilst the rooms are very comfortable and finished to a high standard, and the restaurant food was very good, the hotel as a whole disappoints and is very, very overpriced... The communal residents facilities are non existent...there is no lounge so we... More

The hotel looks top-notch.... perfectly maintained, gleaming and well-thought-out. Book the restaurant (the bar looked equally as good). Great wines; best lobster of the seven-day sailing food-fest across the isles - large, tender...worth every (penny) pound. Will definitely return at first opportunity.

To round our week off in Islay my 4 fishing buddies and I booked a table at The Islay Hotel last Friday evening. While the staff were all pleasant young girls they clearly had no restaurant training which led to some very poor service during what turned out to be a very expensive meal. Our red & white wine sat... More

My boyfriend and I visited in early June. The photos don't do this place justice. It's better than we expected. The rooms are clean, cozy, comfortable, and nicely designed. Loved the tartan throws on the bed. The bar area is fun with a nice courtyard to hang out if the weather permits. Loved the breakfast and dinner. Great, friendly service.... More

We were two couples who celebrated New Years at the Islay Hotel. The hotel is beautifully situated in Port Ellen with very large rooms. Our room had a spa and pelnty of space with a comfortable bed. The cleanliness was excellent and the room looked newly furbished even though the hotel confirmed it was not. Breakfast was fantastic and the... More

There is very little choice when it comes to restaurants in Port Ellen. Fortunately, The Islay Hotel is one of the few choices and the food here very good. All the locals had recommended it Let me start by saying that we (my wife and I) were seated next to a table of 20 Diageo maltings workers who were having... More

We came in by yacht and visited the Islay Hotel a couple of times during our sojourn - both for dinner and a drink. We had a delicious meal and the service was outstanding. Also the reception staff were extremely attentive and helpful with local knowledge. I would definitely book to stay here on another visit. Well done and thank... More
