I can't comment on value for money as this was a business trip and in that respect it 'ticked the box'. However from a personal point of view, bearing in mind it is 2016, it would be nice to bring this hotel in line with a tv and wifi in the rooms. I understand that some people will enjoy the 'peace... Cosy newly decorated room (Iona), charming snug bar. On arrival, very friendly and helpful staff (Mario). Room £60 per night- good price. We took a room with no breakfast as we planned to take the early Jura ferry. In the morning, when the ferry was delayed, a member of staff gave us complementary coffee and toast while we waited for... More

Picked this hotel due to its location to the distilleries we were going to visit. Had actually no expectations on the standards only to the location and the views. If You want luxury, this hotel is nothing to recommend. However, if personality, character, nice staff and lovely surroundings are important, I can highly recommend this place! Situated just a few... I have to say when we first arrived at the hotel I was a little taken aback by the fact there is literally nothing at Port Askaig other than this hotel and the Ferry terminal. Having never stayed anywhere so isolated before it took me a couple of whiskies at the most amazing whisky bar I have been to, I... More

If you want 5 Ritz Hotel star luxury, stay somewhere else. If you want to really feel like you are in Scotland and stay with a cast of wonderful characters who make you feel like you are family, then stay here. I have read the other reviews and understand how this place may not be for everyone but my wife... More

The hotel is situated at the ferry pier for Islay/Jura/Oban. Most rooms look out over the harbour, which means that they are noisy when the big ferry is in (even overnight, with its lights and generator running). Decor in public rooms is tired & in need of TLC. Good atmosphere in public bar. Surrounding garden is also pretty neglected.

While I thank you for your time in writing a brief review I am a little bemused by the comments re the ferries - it is very obvious from our web site and other Islay information that this is a working ferry port/fishing harbour and therefore to book a front facing room in a harbourside location and then complain re... We stopped at the Port Askaig Hotel for some food after a weekend of camping and the music festival on Jura. I had the Chicken Burger and My other half had the Steak Pie and both were lovely, it was a generous helping and the food was extremely tasty and fresh - I found the bar where we ate lovely... More

The Jura Festival enjoyed some real Indian Summer weather and we are delighted that you found time to stop in Port Askaig prior to taking the ferry for your return journey. We endeavour to provide a variety on our menus to satisfy both the hungry traveller looking for a quick bite, as well as those wishing a more relaxing lunch... More

This is an absolutely lovely Hotel full of Scottish history and character The rooms are cosy, traditional and very comfortable. The meals were first class and the menu had something to suit every taste very well presented and well done to the chef and kitchen staff for coping with all the guests that were there during our stay the Hotel... Somehow I'd managed to book a room facing the wall at the back, which was a shame as the views are stunning. The staff are very friendly, and the food was lovely, but the hotel definitely needs a bit of a facelift. It's not cheap, and was hard to believe the Jura Hotel was the same price when the standard... More

Disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay but would say that all but 3 of our rooms have been taken back to the brickwork and completely refurbished in the last 3 years so while some of your remarks may be valid, your comments are definitely not correct in relation to the other 8 rooms. The fabric of the hotel... More
