Was certainly overpriced with a £130 / 150 price tag, but it ensures a room was available for reservation when we were desperate for it. We couldn't get a car to drive out of the port and it was quite late. Staff of very polite and let us use their phone to book another accommodation inland. Breakfast and dinner were... More

Thank you for the review - glad we were able to help. Our prices reflect the cost of living on an island and the carriage we have to pay on everything from a grain of salt to a barrel of beer. Were you to have done more research I am certain you would find that many of the island hotels... More

The location of this hotel is right next to the port so very convenient for the ferry, with stunning scenery and otters and golden eagles nearby. The hotel needs refurbishment or a much cheaper price, either would be fine but for £150 per night I would like windows that open on to the spectacular view and sea air, cotton not... More

This hotel is a bit different and i do like its quirkyness. The mix of styles, getting lost on the premises, a lounge that felt you're inside a friends house just for our group to use. It was great! And the view was just lovely. I was also suprised it was really quiet in our room despite the ferries. Most of... More

On second attempt of replying to this review - I am pleased that you found many aspects of your stay enjoyable. This is, as I am sure you noted, a very old building and is in no way uniform - that is both a joy and a difficultly when changing/maintaining the premises. Your comment about the lack of Marmite! Did... More

We really loved this hotel with all its nice surprises. To go to the nice bar you needed to go outside. The food was simple, honest and good. Cleanliness could be better but was more than acceptable for our walking holiday group. The bed (room Mull) was on the hard side. Nice bar and the best views one could wish... More

Your review is appreciated Eric - we are aware the wifi is poor but as there is an on going installation for superfast broad band not yet live, there is little we can do about it - also I believe our 6' thick ancient walls do not help - mobile phone signals are also missing. These facts are a delight... More

Our first visit to Islay, we were very satisfied with our accomodation and food. Our expectations were not high as we know it costs much more to provide the same standards in this sort of comparitively remote setting. We travelled with a wheelchair and provision was made for that, albeit not really suitable for someone totally wheelchair bound. The room... More

Thank you the review folks - it was nice to meet you. I was not personally involved with the discrepancy on your bill but, when contacted, immediately authorised the refund which the junior staff member did not have the permission to do, so apologies for any delay in sorting matters out. I am pleased that the room allocated was suitable... More

Old fashioned bar in a gorgeous setting. Huge choice of whiskies. I liked the old fashioned setting, the staff were friendly and service was quick. I only went there for a meal, I wasn't staying at the hotel, and herein lies my disappointment and the reason for the low rating.. the food really was terrible. I had the Haggis, Neeps... More

Firstly thank you for the review but how much better would it have been to let us know at the time that your meal was not of an acceptable standard - as you will note from the majority of our reviews our food is generally of a very good standard. Had a wonderful meal and evening at the Port Askaig Hotel. Seafood platter excellent and each member of our table of 10 had a fabulous meal with a great choice of food. This is our 7th visit to this hotel and we have always enjoyed the music and great company of the owners. There is a magic in Islay.....make sure... More

I know it was whisky week but £150 for a room from 1970s MFI worth £50 was a rip off. I liked the people so it was hard to be so mean with the review. They need to take a long hard look at the place and either improve the decor or sell it to someone else. Sorry Marion!

My first time in Islay for work, was booked into the port askaig. The hotel is really good. The room I had was a single room but it was comfortable and had an ensuite bathroom. I had a good sleep and felt refreshed and ready for my next day, the hotel has a bar and also owns the local shop... More

This hotel reminded me of sea-side hotels of yesteryear. The fabric is tired; the room we had had chipped flat-packed plastic furniture of the cheapest kind; the plastic 'wood' wall cladding was vogue for some back in the 1960s; and the shower room carved inexpertly from the bedroom had a sloping floor and no modernity. Beading was loose in the... More
