We stayed just one night en route to our final destination. The entrance and reception is somewhat dated as is the lift which was an 'interesting' antique although no doubt accredited with a safety certificate. Our double bed room, whilst small, had recently been refurbished and the en suite bathroom was clean with luxurious fluffy towels. The water was really... More

The only thing good about this hotel is the beautiful antique lift (which probably contravenes numerous safety laws). On arriving there is no sign that this is the Royal Hotel, only Google maps told me that the building was indeed the Royal. Got a free upgrade, so the room was quite large, but smelled musty, luckily the fiancee and I... More

My room (no 10) had been recently renovated, - such a shame then that the room above hadn't because every time a tap was turned on upstairs, water came through the ceiling. Continuing the 'water being in the wrong place' theme, the pipe on the shower head was split so that all the water came out the side of the... More

Do not visit this hotel, over priced £95 for dirty room, cold shower plus filthy shower head and dirty bathroom. Thread bare carpets, dirty torn bed base, bed dipped in the middle, just awful. On complaining got £15 reduction on room rate disgraceful. Did not sample breakfast as would have had to pay for it and the experience of the... More

We stayed two nights here, and although the public rooms have been renovated, the bedrooms leave much to be desired. Ours was towards the very back of the hotel, and although a good size, it smelled of damp, and the bathroom was really desperately in need of renovation. The hot water in the shower was also very temperamental. On the... More

We took quite a drive outside Edinburgh to find an attractive rate here at Bridge of Allan. The building has the trimmings of a former hotel now trying as B&B. No name on the building, perhaps due to ongoing renovations. Decent size room. Bathroom lacks privacy (window) and no way to ventilate (window blocked from opening even an inch); very... More

Had our wake here and didn't think much of the service. We booked for 50 but after the funeral we had 70 and asked if they could accommodate another 20. We got a complaint from staff when asked to set up 2 more tables and the buffi ran out very quickly. They took money for 70 and it looked like... More

We have stayed at the hotel before but got a last minute deal and visited again. Rooms are great and lots of space. The bathroom is spacious and clean only issue was the water in the morning which was brown but eventually did run clear and warm. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment but this did not put us off.... More

The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good but for the price I paid I was not impressed with the room at all. I understand that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment but this cannot and should not be used as an excuse for such a poor standard especially for the price I paid. I've received a much better...
