Undaunted by the latest Covid restrictions the Elph once again provided us with a delicious, piping hot dinner which was delivered at the appointed time. The portions were generous and left us feeling spoiled. Thank you to all concerned. This place deserves your support!
I know the restaurant in the Elphinstone Hotel well having had many lunches there over the years - I grew up in the area. However, it's four years since I was there. This time it was a chance to meet up with my brother and his wife. As other reviewers have said it is extremely Covid-friendly and clean and the staff are very friendly. My brother and I had chilli con carne and my sister-in-law had chicken bourguignon. The meals were hot and wholesome but we had room for a delicious desert made with the local vanilla ice cream. All in all, it was a lovely lunch in good company.
We went to the Elphinstone over the weekend. I cannot fault the experience at all. The have hand sanitizer stations throughout the bar area and the restaurant, all staff were wearing face coverings and I could see consistent cleaning of touch points throughout the restaurant and bar. I felt very safe with all the Covid precautions they had taken. The staff were friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. I had chicken pakora as a starter which was delicious. Both of us then had chicken and black pudding burgers which were amazing. Overall I couldn’t fault any part of my visit, great food, friendly staff & clear Covid precautions.
Went to dinner on a Covid deal . Limited menu but still a wide variety of choice . I skipped starter and settled for steak and ale pie . Succulent pieces of steak well cooked in a rich gravy Potato ,turnip ,Brockoli ,carrot . Big helping and delicious ,my wife had lasagne which she said was delicious also . I finished off with knickerbocker glory which was also delicious ,and plenty of it ,my wife had coffee . In all a great meal , very pleasant staff (Well done Molly ) And a great £10 discount ! Would highly recommend !
The public bar in the Elphinstone is OK. It is a simple bar with the decor and ambience I associate with hotel bars. Service was professional and pleasant and I was happy enough to sit for an hour and watch a bit of football,on the telly. The bottom line however is that there are three pubs in the town centre, and whereas I would happily use them all, the Elphinstone would be third on the list.
