Travelers' Choice
Coul House was built in 1821 and is set in the hills above Contin and offers scenic views and an award-winning restaurant. Located within 5 miles of Loch Achilty and Loch Ussie, this hotel is only 20 minutes' drive from Inverness. The spacious twenty one rooms are individually decorated, and many have period features and garden views. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom with free toiletries, tea and coffee facilities and a seating area. Free Wi-Fi is included. Many of our repeat guests have their favourite room; whether it is for its accessibility to the outside to let the dog out or for the commanding views down the glen. The restaurant has a unique octagonal shape and an ornate ceiling. Serving a contemporary gourmet menu using local produce, there is also a wide ranging wine list. We are known for our versatility here at Coul House, often saying that our meal times are guide lines not deadlines. Chef Garry offers a range of dining options which includes both contemporary Scottish Cuisine and some more traditional favourites. I am sure you will agree there’s something for everyone to relish whether it’s for Lunch, Afternoon Tea, or Dinner. With plenty of space to relax and wind down, you’ll find yourself in awe of unique architecture, ornate plasterwork, fine craftsmanship and the unusual shapes which adorn the interiors of Coul House Hotel. Magnificent fireplaces, ornate ceilings and great views from all of the public areas create a unique environment with a very relaxing ambiance. Set in eight acres of beautiful mature woodland, Coul House is opposite the biking track to Rogie Waterfalls, in Achilty Forest. Free private parking is available and the market town of Dingwall is just 6 miles away. Beauly can be reached after a 20-minute drive. Nearby attractions include the castles at Dunrobin and Cawdor, Glen Ord Whisky

What can I say! The Coul House Hotel is a piece of heaven on earth which we found by accident. Glorious location, very friendly welcome, total comfort. Staff go out of their way to meet your needs either as resident, or non resident. Food is delicious. Who needs more! Can't wait to stay for Hogmanay.

We spent only one night at this gracious and immaculately kept hotel, but it wasn’t enough. It oozes charm and the staff could not have been more welcoming. We had a beautiful room overlooking the fields. Dinner was elegant , delicious , and well served. I highly recommend this hotel

We stayed at Coul House for part of our honeymoon in Scotland and cannot fault it. The staff were helpful, friendly and incredible in everything that they do. The food was phenomenal and the bedrooms stunning. We just wish that we could have stayed with them longer!

A group of 16 of us stayed at Coul House Hotel for 3 nights and we were treated like royalty. The Hotel is owned by a very friendly couple who have hospitality in their blood, as Stuart Macpherson’s father was a hotelier. It felt like we were guests in a friend’s home. The bar room was comfortable and the drink options plentiful (I asked for a Negroni one night and an Old Fashioned the next night and they both hit the spot!). The meals were delicious! The menu is varied with lots of options. My room was comfortable, but by closing the curtain and shutters, it felt stuffy during my first night, so I asked for room fan, a flat sheet, and light blanket to replace the down comforter originally on the bed. They appeared instantly and made all the difference. The only negative comment I have is that there was no access to TV since their cable was down, and on our second night Queen Elizabeth passed away, so it was frustrating not being able to watch the news about such a historic event. However, the WiFi worked perfectly with a strong signal. Our group did sightseeing during the days and then relaxed for drinks and dinner each night. There is alot to see within a short drive, so I highly recommend the Coul House Hotel for a relaxing, yet luxurious stay in the country!

We stayed 2 nights and had a fabulous experience. The hotel is an old Scottish estate with beautiful interior design. The mattress was superb- great sleep! The restaurant was outstanding - both dinners and breakfasts were top notch. Michelin star worthy. Service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!

We spent one night last month at Coul House. The house is beautiful and the grounds are nice, there was plenty of chairs and tables to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Our room, at the front of the hotel was nice with 2 windows overlooking the car park. The shower room was modern and everything was very clean. We had an evening meal in one of the drawing rooms, I enjoyed my meal but my husband wasn’t so impressed with his, he had the lamb which he said wasn’t so tasty. Every member of staff we met and that served us were so lovely. Although we enjoyed our stay I felt the price of the rooms was very high as although they were nice they weren’t anything special.

We stayed in a double room with view. A lovely large room with a gorgeous view of the front lawn. The bedroom and en suite bathroom were gorgeous with both rooms having chandeliers. The shower was great re water pressure (like a massage) and lots of other luxurious aspects in bathroom. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was divine - a great menu and each choice did not disappoint. We made good use of the lounge bar and staff were very chatty and helpful. Although everything was very professional and polished re service, there was also a friendly and helpful style (which at times was very relaxed) which created a lovely atmosphere. Most definitely a hotel with a big heart. We will be back!

My husband and I had lunch today at the hotel. Food and staff were excellent and very friendly. Nothing was to much trouble. I would highly recommend visiting. The grounds are gorgeous and very well kept. We also visited the fairy trail which was excellent. My grandchildren would have loved it.
