Me and my partner had a lovely stay in Dornoch Castle. We purchased a deal online and had a 2 night stay which included breakfast and their Whisky Experience as well as a free dessert if we ate in the restaurant. We stayed in Cathedral View- a lovely big room with original castle features. The toilet was in one of... More

We took a night in the 'courtroom', it was a great place to stop over on our way back from Orkney. The room was great, my wife lit the giant fire while I got the jacuzzi & fizz going. We took dinner (& breakfast) in the restaurant. The service, wine & whiskey selection was very good although the food itself... More

We stayed here only one night but wish we had stayed longer. Loved the Dornoch area. We had the Old Court Room with a fireplace, robes, and 4 poster bed. We really felt like we were in a castle. It was our anniversary so they had champagne in the room for us. We ate at the restaurant and it was... More

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous -especially if you're staying in one of their superior rooms. The food in the restaurant is to die for and the pub is so quaint and homely that when you snuggle up in the big sofa next to the huge open fire, you won't swing to leave!!!

Very enjoyable and comfortable stay at Dornoch Castle, Scotland. In view that the Castle is centuries old, the rooms in the castle are very spacious with exceptional cleanliness, both in the bathroom and bedroom. Bathroom Fixtures and ammenities is what you expect to see in a 4-5 Star Hotel. Being this is ancient castle, very commendable. Dinner and breakfast meals... More

In one sentence...This hotel is full of character and cosy with excellent food and drink; a fine example of excellent Scottish hospitality. I must say I feel that the last review is spectacularly unfair. My Fiance and I have just returned from a two night stay at Dornoch Castle and, whilst I admit it wasn't quite what I was expecting,... Dear Mrs_Clow_to_be, Thank you for your taking the time to review your stay with is. Scotty and Simon (and also Phil) always make time to chat with guests about whisky, should they have an interest in it. They also ensure that our bar is stocked up with rare, unusual and interesting drams other than whisky so that each guest should... More

I honestly don't know what people rave about. This hotel is interesting, the food was very good. Dining staff pleasant and efficient. Front desk staff give off a flippant, and couldn't care less attitude. (what's with that??) Can't attest to the other rooms in the castle itself, but ours opened up onto balcony, it was cramped and hot. Window opens... More

Dear Joyce333, Thank you for your recent review of your stay with us. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed our restaurant and dining experience. Our chefs take great pride in their menu and our front of house staff work hard to offer a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience. I am disheartened to read that you found our front... More

We stayed here for a special Birthday treat for me and it was very good. We had a four poster en-suite room which was very comfortable, although the bathroom needed a little attention as it was grubby in places. The food was mostly excellent and plentiful with good choice for breakfast and the dinners were lovely with canapes, starter, main... More

This was a great memory on our trip to the UK and Ireland. The castle is in the middle of town and a walk will bring you around. My husband liked the whiskey bar and sampled a couple of different ones.Wish we could have stayed longer but enjoyed the whole castle experience and we would highly recommend this hotel.

Dornoch is heaven on earth for a golfer who enjoys links golf. The Castle is right in the center of town and an easy walk to the golf course in one direction and into the small shopping area in the other.Years ago there was a bar on the top floor ... it's no longer there, but the pub downstairs is... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Castle is located in the historic town of Dornoch across from the stunning 13th century Cathedral, boasting stunning views of the town. The central position of the hotel makes it ideal for exploring Dornoch, home to the world famous Royal Dornoch Golf Course, which overlooks the breath taking golden sand beach. Dornoch is also well situated for those looking to explore more of what the Highlands have to offer. The historic Castle is built on the site of the original Bishop’s Palace of St Gilbert, who founded the Cathedral in the early 13th century. The building eventually sold on and in 1947 became a hotel after some extensive work, which maintain much of the character of the Castle as a stately, historic and comfortable home. The Castle boasts a total of 22 en-suite bedrooms situated both within the original castle and the modern garden extension. There is a variety of room types available including; standard, superior, deluxe and our award winning Old Courtroom. Due to the castle’s layout each bedroom has its own special ambiance, great care has been taking in creating a distinctive character in each bedroom. The Castle's restaurant has retained an AA rosette standard, through the exceptional work from the chefs. The malt whisky selection is second to none and can be enjoyed in the cosy stone-lined whisky bar with the roaring fire to protect you from the Scottish winds, in the summer the walled garden is the perfect setting to relax during the long summer nights. Coming Summer 2016: The Dornoch Distillery will be opening soon on the grounds of the Dornoch Castle Hotel producing 'Old Style' Whisky and Hand Crafted Organic Gin from scratch. ... more   less
