We haven’t been to the Ferry Inn for a couple of years. We have always enjoyed the food here, and this visit was no exception. The fish and chips were beautifully cooked to order, the steak pie and burger looked delicious and were much enjoyed. The service was excellent and very friendly. Highly recommended.

Stayed for three days, amazing owner and staff. Made me feel very welcome. Room three was comfy and very tidy. Lovely shortbread and caramels for a midnight snack. Highly recommend with shopping malls close by

You know how the TARDIS is tiny on the outside and huge on the inside. This inn is similar in a strange way, but not with reference to its size. Instead it looks unfriendly, tatty and rough on the outside but inside is airy, bright, clean and welcoming. When I walked into the bar I wasn't quite sure exactly what my wife had booked me into - but the bar staff member on duty was friendly, easy-going and made sure we were quickly settled into our room. As we walked through the bar a couple of the locals broke off the conversation to say "hello". You really couldn't ask for a better welcome.

The room (No 3) was warm, spacious, bright and clean. The beds were comfy and everything worked well. The only slight grumble was that the WiFi only just hung on by its eyebrows, but had that been an issue we could have popped down to the friendly bar area where the signal was stronger.

Breakfast was a help-yourself selection of fresh bread, fresh fruit juice, hot drinks, toaster, cereal, etc in a bright dining room. Their were no staff around (and I suspect no staff on duty at this time) but that wasn't a problem and the notices made it quite clear we should help ourselves - which we did. And we enjoyed it.

When I started writing this review I gave it 4 out of 5. Pretty impressive when it only cost two of us £45 for the night. But then as I worked my way through writing it I kept asking myself what more could I possibly want? I've paid hundreds of pounds to stay in hotels that think they are far better than this place, but measured against all the metrics that are important to me, aren't fit to wash the Ferry Inn's boots. Or its windows. Actually its windows could do with a wash, but I guess that's part of being so close to the Clyde.

We were visiting Renfrew to attend the filming of Robot Wars just up the road and we really enjoyed our stay and would encourage anyone else to hold your breath as you park your car and wait until you're inside before making judgement. Have a chat with the staff. Ask to see one of the rooms. Then cancel your luxury weekend on Snootsville Country Estate and enjoy good food, good service, friendly staff, friendly locals and a great room. Like we did.

Booked a triple room for three nights hear for our visit to the Scottish Open. Warm welcome on arrival, quick tour of where to get breakfast, smoke, come in late at night etc and then shown to our room. Very comfortable beds and very clean room. Nice selection of breads, pastries, cereals, fruit, hot drinks, juice etc for breakfast which was included and unexpected.

Food in the restaurant was excellent and a nice 25% discount for hotel guests, good selection of drinks, friendly staff and warm welcome from the locals. Will definitely be back for next year!

Until recently, we had not eaten at The Ferry Inn and only occasionally popped in for a drink on our way home...........now, we know what we have been missing!
We decided to order a cheese burger, chips and onion rings for lunch, expecting the usual frozen fare, how wrong we were! The food was amongst the best quality we have tasted, and well worth the wait. The beef burger was hand made, sourced locally and the chips , hand cut and made like days gone past! The onion rings were presented on another dish, worthy of a meal itself, again, no frozen food here, all hand made . A word of warning, they do not skimp on potion size, they are huge. I could not finish mine thankfully , the management offered to pack up my leftovers to go, which I was pleased about, my dog was treated to fine fare that day! The staff are friendly and greet you on arrival, attentive but not hooveringy around you. We are foodies and enjoy going out to different restaurants , however after experiencing the delights at Ferry Inn, we will be adding them to our list and hope to sample other dishes on offer soon. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Ferry Inn to family friends and colleagues for good quality food at a reasonable cost.

Surprised there are not more reviews of this place on here.
It is a traditional Scottish Pub with open fire and friendly staff. Just what you want on a cold winters night.
Good tasty homemade food, big portions and very reasonable prices.
What more could you want ?

We booked and paid in advance for 2 twin rooms for 2 nights. when we got there they put us in 1 room with 4 beds crammed in. After several hours of complaining and phone calls to "Their Boss" they agreed to supply the extra room. When we moved into it the sheets were filthy and had not been changed from the last occupants. The staff were rude and obstructive and most unhelpful.

Never again!

Response from FerryInnManagement, Owner at The Ferry Inn
Responded Jul 20, 2013
Dear Paul We have searched through or recent bookings and there was no booking as described, therefore I think that your review is false and misleading. The reasons for which are: - We will only take advance payment for rooms if they are for long term stays, we would not take payment for a two night stay before the customer arrives. - Our rooms are kept to a high standard of cleanliness, our housekeeper changes all bedding before new guests arrive as well as during their stay. - We have never put 4 beds in one room - it simply wouldn't work logistically, the rooms are not big enough for four beds. We've had no other option than to report this review as widly inaccurate and very misleading. This review is malicious and vexatious and should be removed. With kindest regards Management at The Ferry Inn Renfrew.

The location itself is right on the Clyde, beside the Renfrew Ferry terminal, there's on street parking and it's close to Braehead and Renfrew town centre.

You can tell the building itself is old, very old - perhaps one of the oldest in Renfrew? The owners do well to keep it looking fresh outside and I have to say that staff work hard to keep the interior as clean as possible.

The interior is split into a bar area and a dining room at the back, bar stools dotted around the bar and dark wood panelling feature strongly. Quirky window seats and window shutters are period features as well as the enticing real fire!

Upstairs there is a private dining room and accommodation which are quite spacious, newly decorated and I think at reasonable rate - £40 pppn I think - not sure though.

Enough about that - onto the food!

I first started to visit the Ferry Inn because it was close to where I lived, we would visit for a few drinks at the weekend - it was during one of these nights we seen someone being served food and we decided we had to try it.

All I can say is the food is tasty, home cooked and reasonably priced. Made fresh to order the chef will give what you ask for - extra cheese, no tomato, well done chips..... the chips.... absolutely delicious. Hand cut, none of this frozen nonsense that so many pubs serve you! Maybe you'll wait 5 minutes longer for your food but wouldn't you rather that than get served frozen rubbish that's been microwaved?

The portions used to be HUGE, overwhelmingly huge - glad to see that although still large, they aren't of Man vs Food proportions anymore.

Staff always friendly and usually have good banter!

Lasagne and chips is about £6-£7 but very tasty and filling - you'd be hard pressed to find a better one (even Piccolo Mondo's isn't as tasty) in the area.

I'd say if you fancy not slogging over a stove and dealing with the dishes then give it a go - it won't bankrupt you, you'll leave full and fed.

Visited for the first time after it reopened under the new management. Had enjoyed the steak pie here when the previous owners had it, so tried it again to compare. It was equally as good and I would recommend it.

Please ignore any old reviews of this bar, just back from r 1st visit to Glasgow and I have to say I was very impressed with the staff and owner of the ferryinn.. The photos in trip advisor are old and do not do it justice, the staff and owner could not have been more helpful or nice, it is close to airport and city centre, clean, cheap and you are looking over the river clyde, if I ever go back to Glasgow I would not hesitate to book the ferryinn again. Christine, David, Heather, Dylan & Lauren me and paul really thank u for your hospitality and wish u all the best and I will see you again.. Good luck guys.... Roisin xx

Hi it is accessible by bus from the airport, you would get the First Glasgow service 747 to Renfrew cross then it would be a short walk or a taxi from the airport direct to the ferry inn would cost you less than £10. (I would recommend the taxi option the bus is £4.50 per person so works out about the same by taxi. The easiest way to get the train to Oban would be to cross the river Clyde by ferry (5 minute journey, ferry every 10 minutes directly from outside the Ferry Inn) a short walk to Yoker station, you would get on the train at Yoker, change at Dalmuir and get the train to Oban about a 3 hour journey in total. Hope that helps
