Our travel plans were messed up by fog over North Ronaldsay. We needed a B&B at St Margaret's Hope for the early ferry. We found St Margaret's cottage on the web, and to our great good fortune Barbara had a room to spare. She directed us to a good meal, she gave us a comfortable room, and she was completely... More

We are just home after 2 weeks of quiet relaxation in this beautiful secluded cottage with a lovely garden. The facilities in the cottage are perfect for what is needed for a 2 weeks away from home. The surrounding area is lovely too, Eyemouth was 5 mins away where you could get whatever shopping you need . I can't think... More

I was working up in Orkney but due to unforeseen circumstances we were forced to relocate from Kirkwall to St Margarets Hope. The rooms were immaculate, comfy beds, amazing breakfast in the morning with local produce and the owner was brilliant, she made mine and my colleagues stay brilliant and I would happily visit again. Thank You from the security... More

Easy to find. Rooms are clean and well furnished. Big bathtub a plus. Very wholesome breakfast. Right in town which is quaint. Two minutes to ferry. A real bargain for those who want to explore the southern area.

Any port in a storm. Parking is ample and it's two minutes from the St Margaret's Hope ferry. If the reception is a little unforthcoming, the house is warm and it's quiet. We had a twin room. TV. Would have preferred some basic toiletries in the bathroom (soap?), window sash operable, and fresh shower and toilet mat. Seen better back... More

We booked two separate nights here, one for the night our ferry arrived and one before our early return. It couldn't be handier for the ferry terminal (although St Margaret's Hope is so tiny, no journey is going to take you long!) The B&B is a beautiful stone cottage (unlike the grey buildings you find in Kirkwall or Stromness) and... More

We only stayed one night and found our twin room unsatisfactory. It was completely crammed with furniture which made the space very cramped for 2 people. The windows have been closed up so no fresh air. There was a problem with the shower. Breakfast due to a misunderstanding was scrambled eggs on toast and it was very good.

We booked this place from Wick (further south on the mainland) because we were going to be getting into the village of St. Margaret's Hope in the early evening and so wanted to be settled. What a good choice it was! We stayed for one night, went further up island to another place for two nights (unfortunately) and then came... More
