We went to Orkney for the weekend and we stayed in the bothies. There was a heater and tiny kettle and clean covers so we had everything we needed, it was very warm inside. The 2nd night we were there we saw the Aurora Borealis with the Milkyway which was spectacular I couldn't take it in it was like a...

Although crude and reasonably basic, this is the best campsite I have stayed at in years. The showers are being replaced as I write this, new block should open in August. Camp kitchen has hot-plates, kettle, grill, toaster, microwave, fridge and freezer.......what more could you need? A Yurt and "bell tents" in one field, camping pods in another field. Mike...

Had a lovely 3 night stay in one of the wooden bothies. The cooking facilities were much better than we thought! It's a very peaceful place with beautiful views and fantastic value for money The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the advertisement of being dog friendly but in reality it was not the best. I understand that...

Thank you for your kind words about Wheems. I am so sorry that you weren't happy leaving your dog in the car. We had to change our policy on dogs quite recently after several recent bad experiences of guests allowing their dogs on the mattresses when they had them in the cabins, it has proven impossible to let dogs into...

We stayed for one night camping in one of their tent (tipi like tent) in June 2016. The next morning my boyfriend woke up covered in bed bugs bites. This place is nasty and not clean at ALL!!! Don't go there! It ruined the rest of our vacation! Beware!!!

These guests did not get bed bugs at Wheems, we have other guests stay in here and have not had any issues at all. I am horrified to see that they have written this here, they were the first guests in the bell tent, all the bedding was new in the bell tent and the tent itself only a month...

Stayed 2 nights here in a motorhome. Lovely views and very friendly . Facilities fairly basic and no CDP which seemed awkward as there were several tents 5 pods And only one toilet. Signage for bins etc needs refreshing . Good base for exploring South Ranaldsay.

Hi Thanks for your review. I am glad you had a nice stay, we are an organic farm so a Chemical Disposal Unit is not something we will ever offer but there are disposal units at the causeways. We do provide toilets (and showers) however as the alternative to your CDP and we have just extended these, this site is...

I really loved this place and can't wait to go back and take my family and kids. We stayed in the bothies on our cycle tour of Orkney. They are super comfortable, warm and have great views. The camp site facilities are great. The kitchen facilities are basic but fine. The showers are really good! The staff are great and...

Wheems Farm is an amazing place! We stayed for one night in the bothies and we absolutely loved it! Even though we didn't have a chance to meet the owners and the weather wasn't very pleasant we enjoyed our stay a lot!

We stopped by at Wheems on the last night of our 9 day holiday to Orkney. We have a 21 foot motorhome and although it was a little tight coming up the drive it was worth it. What a wonderful place. I felt immediately transported back to carefree family holidays as a child. The views were incredible, and we were...

We were on a cycling tour and camped here on the first night of our tour having e-mailed the week before we arrived. Nice campsite with great views of South Ronaldsay. There is a small campers kitchen with a fridge, 2 hotplates, 2 kettles, various pots, pans and utensils. As it is an Organic Farm all waste is recycled and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Eco Bothies These small (8'10" x 6'6" or 2.69M x 1.98M) wooden structures, designed and built on the farm, resembling the traditional upturned boat shelter, offer lined and insulated accommodation for those who prefer not to travel ladened with tent, bedding and cooking equipment. They look out to sea through fully glazed double doors and provide an indoor/outdoor living option with their outdoor deck, very helpful for our changeable weather. Bicycles and vehicles can be parked discreetly beside and an outdoor storage box is provided. Inside, a simple platform provides double or single bed options or raised seating. Each Bothy is provided with bedding, water container, rechargeable lamp and hot water bottles etc. Campsite The Campsite at Wheems is in an elevated field with stone dykes, looking south and east towards the sea; beaches and cliffs can be reached on foot in 5 minutes and by car in 2 minutes. There is a yurt providing additional common space and the camping fields have now been sculpted into level terraces and planted with shrubs. Electric plug ins available. There are hot showers, toilets and utilities including washing machine and drying line. We also now have an equipped covered kitchen area for all guests. Small Cottage Small renovated traditional cottage, overlooking bays and cliffs 5 minutes walk away. 2 Miles from village, ferry and bus. Solar and ground source heating. Situated on small organic vegetable farm with in season produce available. Attached to farmhouse with french door onto own stone terrace. Organic Farm Wheems Farm produces a broad range of organic vegetable and fruit crops throughout the summer. Crops are grown undercover in a greenhouse and in a large polytunnel, and outside. There are free range chickens and geese and a flock of sheep. Wheems Farm is certified Organic by The Soil Association.
