We both ordered crab cakes. Being the Orkney Islands I thought they'd be good but I asked the server if the crab was local anyway just to be sure. Imagine my surprise when we each got deep fried crab 'balls'. Now I'm using 'crab' liberally here as what arrived was nothing like the delicate wonderful flavour of crab. It was... More

A tourist bus stop with the worst food we have had in Scotland. The "local crabcakes" may have been local but they smelled and tasted of fish with "nary even a wee bit o crab". The only saving grace of stopping was the Orkney ice cream - and even that was cheaper at other shops

We stopped for lunch in the pub when we were out for a day of sightseeing and were disappointed with the food and the service. The food was just so-so (this wasn't our experience anywhere else on Orkney) and service was very slow. We arrived just as a bus tour group was leaving, so couldn't understand the slow service. Very... More

We came here the other Sunday for a meal, the service was slow but the meal was worth waiting for, however me being a vegetable lover was a bit disappointed by the the lack of vegetables with my chosen meal!

We had a very ordinary Sunday lunch in a large and colourless barn like dining room. Our table faced a beige curtain, in fact my only view was the very drab curtain. The only staff was the guy carving the meat and one waitress cum meeter and greeter cum cashier.. Although, as I discovered towards the end of the meal... More

We booked fairly last minute and with mixed reviews we decided to opt for this hotel because of the location. We were cycling on Orkney and wanted an overnight in this area. It didn't disappoint, in fact exceeded expectations by miles. The view from the bedroom window was stunning, across a small loch to the Sanding Stones and Ring of... More

We arrived a little late for our overnight stay and for our dinner however the chef and friendly girl behind bar had pitty on us and he decided to cook a tasty lobster for my wife and E-Z snack for me which was delicious. Next morning scottish breakfast ( scramble eggs / salmon ) was finger lickin' good. We had... More

We were here for an evening meal, food is served in the bar area, which is large and clean but seems a bit dated, the staff are very pleasant and friendly. There is a nice menu with plenty of choice and daily specials on a blackboard, the day we were there it was showcasing locally caught fish and shellfish. I... More

We stayed for six nights at this lovely hotel. Rooms immaculately clean, and food was excellent, both in the restaurant and the bar. Staff were extremely helpful. The most amazing views across the lochs over to the Standing Stones and Brodgar. Lovely big screen TV in lounge, but perhaps the budget might stretch to a couple of new sofas.

At a glance the room seemed overpriced, but it made up in the sheer size of our room, the great location, and free breakfast. Other places we'd stayed were the same price or more and lacked all three of these things. My wife, daughter, and I stayed here for one night and it was a great place to relax and... More
