Fantastically helpful staff, excellent food, good location with views over the loch towards the standing stones, but attention to detail lacking. Short notice booking meant that there was a bed propped against the wall, but lumps out of the bathroom door & water-stained hessian curtains were inexcusable.

Having been really disappointed by another hotel the previous Sunday (see my other reviews), we were hoping to make up for it at this one. Wow. What a difference. Proper home roasted meat, cut off the bone in front of you, decent yorkshires, good roasts and nice veg. It just goes to show that you can do it well, even... More

Lovely hotel. Room was clean and well serviced with all you needed. Food was excellent. With a good choice both in the bar and restaurant. Prices were fair. Service was great and the staff so friendly. Great location for exploring Orkney. We had the suite with balcony and the views were stunning.

Just returned from a stay at this hotel. Spent 5 nights on a bed and breakfast basis with evening meal. My main reason for the stay was to observe the local bird life and explore the magnificent history of the islands. I was not disappointed with beautiful views wherever you go and from the rooms in the hotel. I was... More

Had a pre-booked lunch here during a day of sightseeing: brilliant food, very friendly service and all enjoyed looking across the Ness of Brogar. Soup and sandwiches were among the best I've had in Orkney but the cakes were just fantastic - especially the Lemon Drizzle and Chocolate Brownie. Would be very, very happy to return when I'm lucky enough... More

We both ordered crab cakes. Being the Orkney Islands I thought they'd be good but I asked the server if the crab was local anyway just to be sure. Imagine my surprise when we each got deep fried crab 'balls'. Now I'm using 'crab' liberally here as what arrived was nothing like the delicate wonderful flavour of crab. It was... More

A tourist bus stop with the worst food we have had in Scotland. The "local crabcakes" may have been local but they smelled and tasted of fish with "nary even a wee bit o crab". The only saving grace of stopping was the Orkney ice cream - and even that was cheaper at other shops

We stopped for lunch in the pub when we were out for a day of sightseeing and were disappointed with the food and the service. The food was just so-so (this wasn't our experience anywhere else on Orkney) and service was very slow. We arrived just as a bus tour group was leaving, so couldn't understand the slow service. Very... More

We came here the other Sunday for a meal, the service was slow but the meal was worth waiting for, however me being a vegetable lover was a bit disappointed by the the lack of vegetables with my chosen meal!

We had a very ordinary Sunday lunch in a large and colourless barn like dining room. Our table faced a beige curtain, in fact my only view was the very drab curtain. The only staff was the guy carving the meat and one waitress cum meeter and greeter cum cashier.. Although, as I discovered towards the end of the meal... More
