The hotel is situated in a lovely area and the views are stunning. The first night we stayed for tea in the restaurant but were extremely disappointed with the meals, they were absolutely average and very tasteless, needless to say we won't be staying for a meal again tomorrow night! I would not give this hotel 4 stars at all,... More

Friends had seen this place in passing and had recommended it to us ..... Half the fun was finding it .... we had passed the entrance without realising. On arrival I was slightly alarmed as the place looked nothing like the brochure but then you realise that you are arriving at the rear of the hotel. When you walk round... More

we recently stayed at the kildonan for a few days and we loved it. Room was lovely, very clean and modern and we loved the outside patio too. Had dinner there a couple of nights as well as breakfast, everything we had to eat was delicious and great quality and quantity. The location of the hotel and the grounds were... More

First holiday in Scotland...The staff, Hotel, Food and our room was just perfect for us, nothing was too much trouble, the view from our room was simply stunning, panoramic view of the sea, the locals were also friendly and we enjoyed their company in the evening.....will certainly return and stay longer next time....well done Kildonan!!

Stopped here for lunch, they do basics well. Standard offering on lunch menu and everything we had was good. Friendly and prompt service. Reasonably priced. Fantastic location and view. Seem to be in the middle of refurbishment. Well worth visiting.

Having read recent reviews on Trip Advisor before our two night stay we went knowing there was 'work in progress'. My Wife and I were in room 12 which is to the back on the upper floor; it is large with a double and single beds. Good TV and wi-fi signal. Nice bathroom with recent tiling and fittings except the... A very lively bar/bistro with frequent live music events. A friendly mixture of locals and tourists enjoying good beer and food. A good menu with prices just about right. The area would not be the same without it.

I stayed at the Kildonan Hotel with a friend for three days in June. The outlook from the hotel is beautiful and a minute's walk takes you across the terrace and onto the beach. We saw seals playing in the shallows, which was a real treat. The place is undergoing refurbishment at the moment, so looks a bit tired. I'm... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
