A very lively bar/bistro with frequent live music events. A friendly mixture of locals and tourists enjoying good beer and food. A good menu with prices just about right. The area would not be the same without it.

I stayed at the Kildonan Hotel with a friend for three days in June. The outlook from the hotel is beautiful and a minute's walk takes you across the terrace and onto the beach. We saw seals playing in the shallows, which was a real treat. The place is undergoing refurbishment at the moment, so looks a bit tired. I'm... More

If you're looking for a great view while visiting the Isle of Arran, this is place for you. We booked this hotel very late, and despite being told we would have a very small room, it was just fine, clean and had everything we needed. We had drinks and an appetizer in the bar before having dinner in the restaurant.... More

Stayed here for one night and the room had a lovely sea view. Room was comfortable and a good size, the shower was good. We were right by the water and had dinner in the hotel which was really good! Breakfast was also really good and we could see sea otters playing in the water when we were having it.... More

We stayed at the kildonan for (5)nights and were a bit disappointed with the bedroom the carpet was a light colour and had quite a few marks on it,the bathroom area had a sink set into a formica type base and quite clearly had suffered from water cathering around the edge causing some little black mould patches. We were very happy... I booked a suite here as a bit of treat for us, on one of our last nights touring Scotland. Although we couldn't fault the stunning location of this hotel we were so disappointed with our stay overall. On arrival the entrance was blocked with a ladder and wet paint signs, we had to manhandle the ladder out of the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
