I was prompted to write a review after reading a particularly poisonous review. My son and I only stayed for a bistro meal after cycling round the island (we were staying in Corrie). The receptionist was delightful and directed us to the bar, assuring us of good service. The bar staff were friendly and helpful with a really nice but... More

Although I haven't stayed her for a leisure break I have stayed twice on business and really can't fault the place. I received a warm greeting and my room was great. The only downfall was lack of wifi which to be fair was explained by a sign at the reception informing guests of the fault and that it was being... More

This fine old Arran hotel was given a modern makeover a few years ago and it's now like a central Glasgow bistro/eatery. Good menu, swish bar and friendly, smart staff so it has a city feel to it. Previously visited about 3 years ago when we had a decent lunch overlooking the bay - very nice. This time we had... More

Visited The Douglas Hotel in June whilst visiting Arran for a wedding. Rooms were lovely, well designed. Breakfast was good as you would expect. Location was excellent as it was right facing the exit/entrance to the ferry terminal. Downside was that the welcome Miss X itinerary for the previous guest who was attending a wedding in the hotel was left... More

The initial greeting was lovely, we were told we were the first to check in that day and given a brief tour of the ground floor on our route to the lift. We were reassured if we needed anything we should contact reception. On entering our room it was small, very dark with small windows and although we had a... More

Oh dear, well, we fell for it.....the 'threat' of a dreadful trip advisor review is not a nice thought, and we replied to CA's email as soon as we could - given the fact that we had no internet (as was highlighted) - this was done from home. Ah, the joys of trying to run a small business! ...but, do... More

Great location, we stayed two nights with our 5 year old. Staff were truly great, friendly and professional. Bar staff were particularly helpful and knowledgeable. Our room was modern but homely. Really liked the basket for recycling, 5 year old really loved Douglas Duck who came home with us and has spent hours in our paddling pool. There were some... More

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Maybe we were fortunate because we were allocated an assistance room (not required) which meant that we had plenty of space and the bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom. We ate in the restaurant each night as the bar was a little crowded and noisy. However, in both places one... More

Having stayed at the Auchrannie several times I was really looking forward to staying at the Douglas but I was a bit underwhelmed as it was just okay. The hotel has a great location and but on arrival I thought the front lawn was really neglected and the garden had no character. They should put some effort in here and... More

Dear Car1515, we were quite deflated to read your review and so wanted to reply to you. Obviously we are sorry that your expectations were not met when you visited us. Our gardens, I am afraid, are in need of some attention and infact we have been working on sections of it, unfortunately we have not tackled it as a... More

Tremendous weekend in Arran. First time staying at the Douglas Hotel and it was a great experience. Had drinks and food there on numerous occasions but never actually been a resident before. First of all, the convenience of the hotel is first class. Our ferry was late and there was going to be an issue for a number of passengers... More
