Just stopped by for a drink whilst camping nearby. Loud music was playing and only seemed to be a couple of locals drinking. OK for a drink but probably would not want to stay there as looks abit scruffy.

First of all let me say that we have never stayed at the "Black Bear" as we live in Bournemouth and Wareham is only a short drive away. Having said that we have eaten at the pub so many times that I have honestly forgotten how many, this has mainly been for Sunday lunch and some of those lunches were... More

Owner sat on the opposite side of the bar, drinking....I thought those days had long left the pub trade especially when her staff are struggling. Generally the staff were ok but could smile more often. Great location just needs modernisation!

We stayed at the black bear last weekend as we were attending a family wedding near by, and had booked 7 rooms for the night, not cheap at £75 per room.!! My sister collects our room keys in the morning and we called at lunch time to drop bags off !! From the out side the pub look grand but... More

We enjoyed a pleasant three night stay in this well located, handsome hotel. We ate all meals there as we found the quality and value of the food to be very good. The stand out aspect of the place was the warm, friendly service. We will definitely be back. Many thanks.

This pub/restaurant/b&b has divided opinion between those who extol its old fashioned virtues of good hospitality, well kept beer and large cooked breakfasts as against rather dilapidated rooms, the noise that any pub generates and the lack of choice at breakfast, eg no fruit ,muesli and more quantity then quality generally. Well, the debate is over to the extent that... More

Pretty little riverside market town with a wide variety of individual shops and plenty of places to eat and drink. The Black Bear is a large and attractive period building with bar, restaurant and rooms. We stayed 1 night and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Room was small but well equipped, if... More

Took my 4 year old to Wareham and wanted to have dinner around 5pm, the Black Bear was the only place able to serve food to me then! We say in the bar area for about 10 minutes and had a drink whilst we waited for the serving time. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food came quickly, was piping hot... More

I booked a single room on the Internet for £55.00. I was on a cycle tour so didn't need anything swanky. I sent a question by email to see if they had secure storage for my bike. I received an almost instant response where they kindly allowed me to park my bike in a disused function room. Excellent customer service.... More

Stayed for 2 nights. Staff very friendly. Bedroom warm and comfortable, some fittings a bit dated. Bathroom had no heating so at times cold. Bathroom curtains need changing. Bed comfortable, good nights sleep. With a bit of updating could be a lovely hotel. Evening meal good and freshly cooked, not over impressed by breakfast, fried eggs hard and scrambled eggs... More

We have a varied home cooked menu including daily specials and child options, featuring locally sourced produce. We as a family took over the Bear on the 8th October 2012 and have been busy refurbishing the rooms and generally giving the old place a facelift, but not losing its character in the process. So the new management team, Lyn, Allan, Beccie, Podge and Maz would like you to welcome you if you choose to come and stay with us. There are several beautiful beaches and interesting sights close by. Wareham is an old market town enclosed by the famous walls and hold many historical features. The boat trips from the quayside to Poole are very popular. We are also central to Dorchester, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage and Corfe Castle, to name but a few. ... more   less
