Went recently after not visiting for a year or so. What has happened?? Under new 'management' (if you can call them that) and its ridiculously clear they don't have a clue. It seems the landlady doesn't care. She looks knackered and uses foul language which is just embarrassing. No beers on at all and she didn't seem bothered by that....

We visit Wareham frequently and have always stayed in the Black Bear. Until recently it was shabby but friendly, run by pleasant and helpful, locally-based people. However, earlier this year the local team were evicted by the ‘pubco’ and replaced with new management who’ve stopped providing breakfasts – B with no B, in fact. The former breakfast room now houses...

got to the hotel, showed our room, which was very substandard and the bed was to big for the room, leaving hardly any room to move round. Went downstairs to have a look round and got a drink, then enquired where breakfast was going to be served, to be told that they don't do breakfast after 31st August although the...

We arrived and rang the bell, after 3 rings one of the managers eventually came out looking like we had woken her up at 2pm. Shown to our double room - 2 single beds, a shower that I defy anyone to shower in, black marks from damp or dirt all over the bathroom, room furniture was not nice!! and lamps not...

Lovely looking place, not very clean leant on the table in the bar for about an hour when I stood up it came with me! Very sexy young lady behind the bar who I couldn't help staring at so much so that I got belted by my wife.Does it's job as quite cheap(the hotel not the barmaid!)

I visited the Black Bear on Sunday 2nd October with my partner. As it was a nice day, we decided to take our drinks out and sit in the garden. First of all, the decking was littered with cigerette ends. I then noticed a dog poo in the flower bed next to the table. When a member of staff came...

We decided to have lunch as we were visiting the market. The menu quoted pub classics, the fish and chips looked appealing so we ordered 2 meals. It was a bit of a shock when it arrived to find a cheap uniform frozen portion of fish from a frozen food shop. The chips were dry and uninviting. To say that...

A group of us recently stayed for five nights and hosted a very successful event for 35 people in the restaurant. The Bear has been the brunt of some very discouraging reviews recently, but now has a new, young, energetic and creative landlady who is pulling out all the steps to re-built its reputation. The old building has many idiosyncrasies,...

People were nice, no problem there, but the rooms are old, dated, and poorly laid out - I was woken up several times in the night by drunken men waiting in line for the toilet. The internal doors are designed to slam shut no matter how gently they were opened, which is so violent that it actually moves the pictures...

The Black Bear Hotel is a family friendly grade 2 listed period coaching inn, with 14 en-suite rooms, bar restaurant, pool table, beer garden and a function room that can be used for any occasion, business or leisure. We have a varied home cooked menu including daily specials and child options, featuring locally sourced produce. We serve local and regional real ales and selection of wines well behaved dogs are welcome. We have live music most weekends. We as a family took over the Bear on the 8th October 2012 and have been busy refurbishing the rooms and generally giving the old place a facelift, but not losing its character in the process. So the new management team, Lyn, Allan, Beccie, Podge and Maz would like you to welcome you if you choose to come and stay with us. There are several beautiful beaches and interesting sights close by. Wareham is an old market town enclosed by the famous walls and hold many historical features. The boat trips from the quayside to Poole are very popular. We are also central to Dorchester, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage and Corfe Castle, to name but a few. ... more   less
