We have eaten and stayed here a few times and recently dined with relatives who live in the village. We had a great meal including home made fishcakes, Duck cooked beautifully, hake which was a good portion and also presented well. These were all served with plentiful fresh vegetables. The food is very good and the service is friendly yet... More

What a delightful little place this is in the middle of the English countryside. Parking good, as soon as you arrive the charm oozes, opening the old creeky front door there was no one to be seen but eventually someone scurried out with the brightest and happiest smile and welcome! The garden is delightful and we sat outside for a... More

We have stayed here a number of times and always enjoy the ambience and friendliness. Rooms are quite old fashioned but very comfortable. Retsuarant is excellent...always good. Bar is fun with local beer and cider on tap. Not pricey...excellent value for money!

Absolutely amazing meal, beautiful restaurant steeped in history. Excellent service, we were made to feel special. Lots of extra little touches like homemade bread and olives as a pre starter and delicious homemade chocolate truffles served with coffee.

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend as we badly needed a break. Castleman’s title is “Hotel” but according to their information sheet it is a restaurant with 8 rooms. Whatever, we loved it. Although there’s not a lot to the village itself, it’s a good base from which to tour the area and come back to... More

From the friendly welcome to the wonderful food at dinner this was a really nice experience. The hotel and the village it is in are steeped in history and your host and other charming regular guests are ready with information , if asked. We will be going again , next time with family or friends.

We had some prestigious international clients visiting from the Far East, and we arranged for them to stay here. The place entirely charmed them, and added an extra touch to their visit to England. Bravo, hurrah and huzzah!

I was treated to dinner here for my birthday. You could say it is quirky but very quintisensuly English. Very welcoming and had a good meal, food was good and the service was fine. Would recommend but probably need to book as was quite full even on a Thursday at a venue which is a bit off the beaten track.

Five chums, my wife and I booked dinner, bed and breakfast at Castleman so as to celebrate a special birthday and we all enjoyed a wonderful and fun filled time. The food they serve is just fabulous, plentiful, delicious and varied; much sourced locally and all the more tasty as a consequence. The decor is 'Marplesque' country house style -... More

The Castleman is a lovely place run by lovely people. Some may find it old-fashioned but that is all part of its charm. The bathrooms in some of the bedrooms are worth a visit in their own right. A better reason for staying is the glorious food cooked by Barbara Garnsworthy and Richard Morris. Barbara's brother Brendan does a superlative... More
