The Bull Hotel in Bridport garners appreciation for its immaculate and charming rooms, which many travelers find tastefully designed, boasting quality amenities. While opinions on the hotel's value vary, with some guests considering it pricey, the amenities, including a quality breakfast and pet-friendly policy, are generally well-received.

Detailed Reviews
Great location right in the middle of Bridport on the main street. We thought it would be noisy but the double glazing worked very well, so we slept soundly. The terrace at the back would be super in summer, but we were visiting in February so couldn't really use it properly. Free car parking a big plus - by comparison Premier Inns often charge you about ÂŁ7 which I really resent.
Staff were friendly, our bedroom was excellent, comfortable, warm & quiet, as I said. Nice large shower. Good range of teas /coffees & biscuits & a coffee pod machine (nice touch) - somebody had obviously thought hard about the way the room was decorated & equipped. (we both used to work in the Catering industry & can be quite critical!)
We ate in the restaurant both nights, I had sea bream on the first night & it was so good we both had it again on the second night. Log fires in the Reception area & the bar were appreciated. So all in all a great little winter break.

We happened upon this hotel in passing just as we were feeling hungry and the sky was about to open on us. We checked they were dog friendly and s soon as we heard they were we were straight in there, glad of shelter and the promise of food. Turned out to be an excellent decision and very fortunate timing all round. We were a family party of seven adults and three dogs and we couldn't have been made to feel any more welcome. The lady in charge was clearly a fan of the dogs and sorted them out with some water before they settled down close to the fire. We all chose our food and drinks from a varied menu of either a light bite or something more substantial. Everything we had was excellent and the service couldn't have been better. Our host was even kind enough to ask whether our dogs might be frightened by a fire alarm test. We weren't sure, and that was good enough to have her put it off for a little while until we'd eaten. She later suggested us stepping outside into the courtyard (rain had stopped), so they wouldn't be
alarmed (no pun intended) whilst they did the test. Most considerate and thoughtful. 10/10 for an excellent experience all round between delicious food, excellent service and kindness to us and our dogs. Would highly recommend this spot to anyone, particularly if you have a dog with you.

Our room was light and airy, comfortable, with a king sized bed and well appointed with a shower and roll top bath ensuite. Overlooked a busy street but quiet and with blinds and curtains very cosy - it was cold outside at night!
Food was good although we only had one evening meal and my wife, who is a vegetarian, had no problem with her selection.
ALL the staff were very friendly anx helpful and it certainly made for a good experience. Special menton must be made of Gemma who gave outstanding service.

This pub chain (Fullers) owned place is, like Bridport itself, not a place to visit!
The hotel is ancient and, at best, furnished eclectically! It is in need of a good clean and redecoration! What an American would call characterful I suppose but I would call incredibly overpriced!
The bathroom was cast in a yellow, mellow light with a tiny light over the sink where there is nowhere to put “her stuff”!
Oh, and apart from two bathrobes (why?) hanging on a rail, there are no other hangers nor a wardrobe to hang anything nor drawers to store anything should you be staying longer than one night - good luck!
The food was at best average (and that is a push) and, no doubt, arrived at the kitchen in portion controlled bags to be heated and plated!
Our pre dinner drinks arrived after our starters!
I had THE smallest squid rings EVER although lifted by a very good romesco sauce.
The feta mousse consisted of the scrag end of lettuce, three of the tiniest bits of water melon and crumbled cheap feta with no dressing creating a melange of blandness! The extremely polite and keen young men, who were more than let down by the food, were kind enough to take it off the bill…
Mains were ok but not worth the money!
So! The good points were the staff/bed and the bad points everything else!!

I tried to have lunch with friends here today. We were a pre-booked party of ten, and had chosen our main courses and starters in advance from the Prix Fixe menu. The starters were late coming out as the prawns had not been removed from the freezer in time, apparently. It took another 40 minutes or so for the main courses to come out (those of us not having starters were very hungry by then). 70 minutes after my arrival, our meals came out; 4 of us had the aubergine moussaka, which was inedible; overcooked and of such a small quantity it is almost impossible to describe- a small dish with about half an inch of veg in the bottom, topped by crispy slices of potato. A tiny salad accompanied the dish. We had to send them back (although by then I had eaten about three mushrooms, just to see if I could fill up on something!). The friends who had the fish said is was lukewarm, at best. When the food went back, I looked up the cost of my sparking water-ÂŁ5- and gave my friends the cash to cover it, leaving and coming home for a sandwich. For the record, I am NOT a fussy eater, and have never had to walk out of a restaurant before.

We are really sorry that you encountered issues during your lunch visit. We were unexpectedly a chef down on the day you came and sadly this caused several issues during this particular lunch session. Whilst this is not an excuse, the shift therefore did not run as it should have and we can only apologise. Obviously the charge was removed on the day and we apologise again for the issues encountered. This is not our usual standard and we can assure you we have addressed the same with our team. We hope you will return again soon for a much more usual and enjoyable visit.

I would describe The Bull as a pub with run down rooms, rather than a boutique hotel.
Positives:
Good breakfast (apart from the coffee) with fresh fruit, granola, compote and dishes cooked to order.
Nespresso in the room.
Bramley bath products.
Friendly staff.
Family room with separate small bunk bed room.
Negatives:
The car park was full when we arrived and we were told the hotel didn't have enough spaces for all of the rooms so we would need to pay to use a public car park nearby.
There was a party in one of the pub's function rooms across the small courtyard from our room with music playing all evening. It was so loud that we were unable to hear the TV in our room and our children couldn't sleep.
The room was not well maintained - mouldy tiles in the shower, rickety bed, sticky guard rail on the bunk beds, hotel information folder was broken and tatty, cobwebs around the window frame, chipped paint etc.
Overall, disappointing.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you had some issues. We usually contact our guests to advise of any function noise upon receiving the reservation, however it appears you were not made aware, for which we are very sorry. We will also look into the issues raised with your room as this is not usual feedback for us. Thank you for bringing the issues to our attention and we do hope you will return to us again.

Me and my family stayed at the Bull Hotel, Bridport during the coronation, bank holiday weekend. We had previously stayed a couple of years ago and loved it so much we decided to return this year. We were extremely disappointed with our stay. The drainage on two of our four rooms smelt, I would not recommend staying particularly during the hotter weather. Despite management saying that they complete a quality check, bins had not been cleaned for another two of the four rooms. The first day of breakfast was decent (although sonewhat lukewarm). However on the second day, Monday, breakfast took at least 45 minutes. When it arrived, the orders were wrong and the food was cold. By this point we were hungry and late for the rest of our day. A further set of hash browns were ordered and they were vastly different. Eggs were not runny at all. When we raised our concerns, we were told that they appreciate our concerns. There was no acknowledgment, no explanation and no apology. What was a good hotel and somewhere we previously recommended is now somewhere I would tell people to steer clear. It's lost its charm and quality. The stay ruined the family trip. We paid ÂŁ1,500 and a "discount" of ÂŁ58 was provided. Honestly, it was a slap in the face.

Thank you for your recent feedback and review. We are really sorry to hear that you felt our hotel didn't meet the same standards of your previous stay. We will of course investigate the drain smell as neither our team or other customers have mentioned this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention so that we can ensure any such issue is dealt with. We would have investigated this whilst you were here if we had known as we would never want our guests to be unhappy. We refunded your breakfast on the day as we were unfortunately a chef down in the kitchen unexpectedly which affected the service and speed of your food. We apologise again for this situation occurring. Kindest regards

My first thought on arrival was that the hotel seemed a bit shabby and, given the room rates, lacked some finesse. However, the room was clean, reasonably comfortable with decent shower facility, and the food was good. The tea and water facilities in the room were appreciated.
That said, one of my two pillows has reached its end of life, the duvet was too warm - a summer duvet with a throw would be better - the bedside table is too small (weird shape too) for glasses, water, book, phone etc etc, and the bedside light is too weak to read by. A towel ring/rail for the hand towel would be good, and also a wide shelf or small cabinet would be useful for toiletries. TV signal was poor.
Oh, and some herbal tea would be a nice addition to the selection in the room.

We went to the Bull restaurant this evening and were very disappointed with the value for money. Whilst I had fish and chips, which were very generously portioned and excellent quality, my husband has risotto, which was a minuscule potion served in a massive dish. The wine was ÂŁ9.50 for a small glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, which was quite ordinary. I could have bought a better bottle from Waitrose for a similar price. Even though we mentioned to the waitress that we were unhappy with the size of the risotto, nothing was passed on to the kitchen and there was no offer of an additional serving. The room has no soft furnishing so is very loud with no ambiance. Not a good meal out,

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you felt your risotto was too small. We have actually reduced this dish recently following lots of feedback that the dish was too big due to risotto being a slightly heavier dish. We will therefore revert back to the larger portion to avoid this again. We have quite an extensive wine list with wines priced from ÂŁ4.50 upwards with a range to suit all tastes and budgets so we are sorry that you felt the New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon was not at a price point your would expect. We really value feedback but we also appreciate the opportunity to put things right at the time of your visit. I will therefore discuss this with our team to remind them of this. Thank you for your feedback.

I have been a customer at The Bull Hotel for 40 years. Recently, I have used it with groups of friends for French Conversation and Story Traders. Today I went with a group of friends for a story writing workshop. We used one of The Bull’s private dining rooms which has a lovely atmosphere- perfect for writing and sharing stories. We were served lunch in the Stables.
Throughout the organisation of the day beforehand and in serving us today, the staff were absolutely wonderful. They made allowances for interesting lunch requests, found dishes that were both vegan and gluten free, and packed up doggy bags for those that couldn’t eat all the food at lunchtime. They even brought drinks tous rather than us have to struggle with them through doors and across the courtyard.

I’m afraid I don’t know either. I’m not a vegan so if didn’t look for a vegan option but I’m sure if you telephoned or emailed the hotel they’d be able to tell you . I can tell you though that all the food we had at the bull was excellent and the service was brilliant too
Hello. Thank you for your enquiry. Due to the age and the building being listed we do not have air con in our bedrooms. We do provide Dyson fans in all of our rooms instead. Kind regards
I don't think so..you would have to ring the hotel.
