The Commodore looks somewhat old fashioned from the outside, but this is reflected in the old school quality of the experience. Stunning views, excellent service and wonderful food characterised our stay

Lovely three day stay. Have stayed here three times before. This time we had a room with balcony facing the estuary. Well worth the extra cost. Views, food and service to die for. Jane makes the best cosmopolitan cocktail! This place never disappoints.

I have stayed here before and was impressed the first time around. I had a very comfortable room. It was overlooking the car park but that was not an issue (more than ample parking space ).I found the menu to be a bit limited but what I did have was good. A good selection of cask ales. The Doom Bar... More

Quick visit back home to devon but didn't want to bother friends so we stayed at the commodore. Amazing room with views over to Appledore. Fantastic service and great food. Amazing location on the beach front ! Loved the sunsets Can't wait for the next visit

Undoubtedly has amazing beach and sea views but the cost of this for the quality within is prohibitive. I expect far better than a 'jolly chef' fry up for breakfast at the prices i paid and the bedrooms, linens, desperately need an update. The shower, well, I am not sure you can call it one. I have NEVER known such... More

Only had time to spend one night here - last came 8 years ago and have been wanting to come back. We will again soon for longer. The hotel has fantastic views (book a room with estuary view), there is a large car park ands spacious grounds at the front with a walk on the sands only 100 yards away... More

Compliments first! The views from this hotel and the gardens are as good as the pictures suggest. In fine weather, you wonder why anyone would go anywhere except England on holiday. I booked a sea-facing, balcony room as my husband is disabled (but not a wheel-chair user). No lift but it's only one flight up; the stairs aren't difficult and... More

I sometimes need to visit East in the Water in North Devon for business meetings. It is near the delightful coastal village of Instow on the Taw and Torridge rivers estuary. On Tuesday 21st June 2016 I stayed overnight in a party of 4 at The Commodore Hotel. The hotel is owned and run by the Woollaway family and that... More

This family run individual hotel never disappoints. Excellent friendly service from all the staff and marvellous food from their inventive chef. The view of Instow beach and Appledore is a bonus and just fabulous.

The warm welcome at this hotel is outstanding, from the help unloading suitcases, the free coffee served in your room while you unpack and throughout your stay. The sea view rooms provide an ever changing picture and interest. The food deserves at least one if not two AA rosettes at dinner ,and the lunch time menu is extensive. The bars... More
