We had walked down to the sea at Heddon Mouth and back again and called in to The Hunters Inn for a refreshing drink in the beautiful garden area. Having looked at the menu we asked if they had a table free in the restaurant but they were fully booked. Obligingly they set up a table in the bar area... More

Hottest day of the year and stopped for quick lunch following delightful walk down to Heddon's Mouth. Tried to get a table outside with parasol but was beaten to it when I went to order. Bar person (proprietor ?) came out and explained that a number of parasols were broken having been left up previously. "It gets very windy here".... More

As a family with adult children and now grandchildren we have enjoyed many meals at the Hunter's Inn. It has, over recent years been renovated and even recently the new owner has altered the bar. The sad thing is it was renowned for its great food with an interesting menu and a further special menu on the blackboard. Walkers from... More

This is the third time we've stayed at the Hunter's Inn and we always enjoy the experience. This time was even better as it appeared that the rooms have been refreshed. Our room was very large, something I always appreciate, and had a bath, not just a shower in again a large bathroom. The food is excellent and good value... More

Having driven through narrow, winding lanes hoping we wouldn't meet any oncoming traffic, we were suddenly faced with this beautiful hunting lodge. Did not eat here, just had coffee, one cold, damp day in June. Was shown into the Summer room overlooking the beautiful garden, even on this gloomy day, the variety of greens from the many species of trees... More

Stunning location, magnificient, breathtaking location. This was our second visit and the biggest disappointment is that on both occasions they have stopped serving food by 3 pm. This spectacular building in a dreamlike landscape is a magnet for walkers and yet they dont serve food all day. This is out of step with the rest of the West Country as... More

Called in for a meal and refreshments - The food was good although a bit pricey, but spoilt by the barman whom couldn't get my order correct. A simple swop from last to New potatoes couldn't be achieved. Had to go outside to eat in order to avoid the rap music! To get some peace. Keith P

Thank you for your review of The Hunters Inn. I was pleased that you thought that the food was of a good quality, something that can not come cheaply. Unfortunately the barman was unable to help you with your request for New Potatoes as they were not on the menu that day. We do have music playing in the Inn;... More

We were taken here by friends twice in a week. WOW, what a fantastic building & setting. The garden is huge with a lovely walk down to a beach. Didn't eat here, just came for drinks. Looked to us like you need to book well in advance for a table here, restaurant area to the rear of the main bar.... More

We visited The Hunters Inn twice during our 7 day holiday on Exmoor. The location is beautiful, the food delicious and very reasonably priced and the staff were attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Just back home after a special treat - a night away from it all in the most beautiful valley at Heddon, Martinhoe, in the Exmoor National Park. The hotel is hidden away right at the end of the valley and from the first view of the building you know you are going somewhere really special. The welcome we received on... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hunters Inn pub is blessed with the most magical setting, tucked at the bottom of the exquisitely beautiful Heddon Valley on Exmoor. The narrow road from the moor descends beneath a canopy of ancient trees. Sun-dappled leaves glitter and gleam. The river runs past the inn and a short walk takes you to the beach. ... more   less
