I would have rather given feedback to the hotel directly, but can find no way of making email contact with the hotel apart from to make reservations. We are repeat visitors and love the beauty and vibe of Bovey Castle. We have also really appreciated the thought and attention to detail. Always very professional, but relaxed. Covid has obviously put a stop to many of the activities at Bovey, and changed how we are able to conduct our time away. I am sure there are still staff on furlough, but we just felt a slip in standards this time. Our brasserie reservation was forgotten, and then our breakfast in our bedroom was forgotten on both mornings - I felt a jar of yogurt, fruit juice, cereal and some bought in mini pastries was unexciting for £20. There was a small issue re parking our car, with the conversation ending with the young man saying he didn’t really care as he had the following day off! Not quite as it used to be. The Romanian barman was delightful and very efficient. Please take this review as feedback, because generally everyone is trying hard. The room was clean and lovely. Our meal in the brasserie was good.

Coming from London to Cornwall on a road trip we wanted to break the journey so decided to stop at Bovey Castle for 2 nights. What a good choice ! Lovely property in stunning grounds. We chose a valley view room with lovely views as you can see. It’s a characterful building with a lovely historic feel about it but with modern rooms. Only minor gripes no chest of drawers (or any drawers really!) nor a mirror on the main table for the wife. Otherwise no complaints and very friendly staff and good service throughout the hotel Good restaurant service too. When I asked to amend my main without veg. A kitchen staff member came out to see if there was anything else they could offer! It’s the little things.... Sadly I wasn’t here to play golf but walking through the lovely grounds it was very tempting! Highly recommended

Just had a one night stay at the Bovey Castle with wife and daughter (20 months). Just wanted to share a few things. 1)The views are beyond stunning. 2) The ferret and chickens talk was great fun! 3) reception and bar staff were absolutely excellent. Couldn’t do more to help. 4) Great reasonably priced whisky selection . 5) lovely indoor pool and terrace area! 6) I don’t play golf but that looked ok 7) Be prepared for the tiny country lanes To be honest there were only three negatives , 1) They don’t make nearly enough of the Conan Doyle, Hound of the Baskervilles , Sherlock Holmes thing! One for the marketing team may be! This would sure be a huge sell! 2) the brasserie , I know the main restaurant was closed but beware the food at the brasserie is good but it is nothing close to what you would expect for five star . It’s good gastro pub level at best. The service was average, particularly at breakfast , not sure if they were just busy, the menu was very limited, steak , lasagne , fish and chips etc . If dining is an important part of your experience may be wait until the main restaurant is open again. 3) Really just as an add on to 2) and probably covid related , for the style of food the cost over all for a one night stay including dinner and a few cocktails was very very high. In short , stunning hotel , great staff , food great for what it was but not a special eating experience and a lot of money !

The best thing about Bovey Castle is the setting - it is absolutely stunning. And would recommend It just for that. A very peaceful place. Our overall feeling is that the hotel is in need of some TLC. Our lodge could have been amazing but it was quite tatty in some areas, but it was clean with very comfy beds. Lodge was only serviced once every four days and we don’t really understand why that was as we have stayed in other hotels during the pandemic that provide a daily service. Smiths food was ok, but nothing special. Service slow with only 2 people serving. They could do with some sun umbrellas on the terrace too as it was hot when we were there. Check your bill. We were overcharged quite a bit and were also charged 12.5% service on everything, even for our room being serviced on days it wasn’t. Most bizarre. In summary, we had a very pleasant time. Helped by the great weather.
