Nice looking pub from the outside and even better inside where the bar area is very old-fashioned and comfortable. Good lunch menu with many 'specials' and the quality of the food also good. Visited midweek for lunch for the first time and will go again. Very pretty beer garden out the back with a small amount of parking. Opposite is... More

OK for a winter's evening, but sombre and dark for a bright summer's evening. A beer garden with tables at the back, but watch out for midges! A pub which sees no need to serve expresso coffee, despite requesting it on several different visits. Tired, slightly depressing restaurant, particularly the back room, would benefit from improvement. Nice family booth for... More

We stayed one night and had the double room with four-poster bed. The floor was creaky and uneven just as you expect with a very old inn and the room just a little faded. The en-suite was very small and in need of a refurb, but everything worked OK. The landlady had kindly reserved us a table that Friday night... More

Four of us went here for dinner today. The lady behind the bar was not very welcoming. The bottle of wine was luke warm. The wine choice not good. We had trouble choosing anything we fancied from the menu. The whitebait was definitely not whitebait. The plaice was slimy and soggy. Really not much to like. We won't be coming... More

Great venue with Castile next door. Lots of character in the pub. Small bar and larger lounge and dining area where dinner ( book in advance for sure) can be taken. Typical pub menu with good range of beers. Rooms are very small and bathroom has over the bath shower and small sink...very small indeed. Sloping floor adds to character... More

We stay in Lydford about 6 times a year and always visit the Castle Inn at least once. It is always welcoming and accommodating. The food is delicious and homemade. The specials board always seems to have something different on it, but it also has the old favourites for faddy teenagers. If you have a dog and under 18s they... More

Ate here recently and had a very nice meal. Steak pie with blue cheese was really very good. Quaint old pub, small bar to the side for informal eating and a restaurant area on the other. Plenty of outdoor seating too. Friendly and well priced, worth a visit.

My husband and I visited this pub to meet up with my uncle, who has been going there for over 40 years and I can see why, from the moment we got there the people were so warm and friendly. The pub is a traditional old pub, not many of them left now days! With stone walls, beams and beautiful... More

We were staying up the road, and was recommended this pub as a place for an evening meal. It is very old and quaint inside, the staff are friendly and the food is good. It's located in the village close to the castle, old church and the gorge. Worth a visit if in the area.

The Castle Inn is a traditional 16th-century inn situated in Lydford, on the Western slopes of Dartmoor National Park. Built in 1550, its plain pink exterior offers no clues as to what awaits you inside. It oozes with character from every nook and cranny.
