2023 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
Sampford House has wonderful views across the harbour of the historic town of Brixham. The guest house has 5 lovely rooms including a separate cottage attached with a separate lounge and king size bed. We also have a lovely suite with Harbour views. There are plenty of beautiful walks and the fishing is good!!!!!

We have just once again had a wonderful stay with Rosie and Matthew at Samford House. They are such a wonderful couple who will make your stay there feel like hone from hone. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are absolutely immaculate and are quintessential in that there are lovely little touches everywhere which always make you smile. The beds are just so comfortable with crisp white linen and plenty of pillows so you are sure to find the perfect one for you. The views over the harbour are just beautiful in fact it’s hard to drag yourself away from the view to go to breakfast. Breakfast at Samford House is one of the best I have ever tasted. Fresh fruit along with cereals and granolas with homemade yoghurt to start you are spoilt for choice. A choice of juices are served along with tea and coffee which is served at the table. The breakfast menu is extensive from salmon and scrambled eggs to a full English breakfast and all the produce is locally sourced and boy can you taste the difference and a variety of toasted bread with Jans/marmalades/honey again locally sourced and homemade. Would we stay again yes yes YES this is a diamond in the heart of Brixham Harbour. Rosie and Matthew you are one amazing couple who makes everyone arriving as guests but leaving as friends! I have stayed in many hotels and in many countries. I can honestly say that this hotel completely amazed me. It had a wonderful welcome from the proprietors, a dedicated parking space and interior charm that made it feel extremely cosy. Breakfast is included and again is one of the best breakfast that I have ever had. You are asked for your choice and it will be presented to you by the owner who will also stand and discuss with you where else you might eat in the evening and anything other that you may like to do locally. This is all done without any intrusion. if you just want to be quiet and keep to yourself, that’s fine too. We selected a “superior“ room and were given adjoining cottage that had its own kitchen and lounge. It had its own door to the outside and felt very cosy. In the morning, at a roughly agreed time, a key turned in interconnecting door led you back into the breakfast room, which was laid out with all possible cereals, juice, and fruit. it was utterly superb. If you go to Brixham, don’t even consider any other location.…

Once again Mr & Mrs Stuart gave us a perfect stay at this wonderful guest house. Short, just 2 nights, but so relaxing we came away completely refreshed and re-vitalised. I would almost travel all that way just for Rosie's legendary breakfasts. I particularly like their 'Mr & Mrs' own-brand Marmite - typical of their ultra-fine attention to detail. Another great weekend in Brixham staying at Sampford Guest House! The rooms are always clean, the breakfasts are simply delicious and the views from the rooms are amazing. This is a fantastic place to stay - everything about our visit was first class, from the delicious breakfasts to the comfy, well-appointed room, wonderful service and the beautiful views out over the harbour. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Matthew and Rosie gave us some great recommendations for places to eat out locally, places to visit and things to do during our days too. Having reserved parking close by was so helpful too.

This hotel is absolutely excellent. We stayed here a couple of weeks ago for our second time. Matthew and Rosie are perfect hosts. Other than at arrival, you meet them at breakfast where Matthew takes your order and Rosie prepares it in a small kitchen alongside the dining room. The breakfast is possibly one of the best breakfasts I have eaten, certainly in hotels. Breakfast choices cover all of your requirements because they are all prepared to order. There is a wide range of accommodation, and we chose the small cottage, which is part of the hotel, but has its own ground floor entrance and a small kitchen. It’s very cosy with an upstairs bedroom and a downstairs lounge, so quaint that you need to be careful with the stairs which wind up between the levels, however, this is part of the charm and they have other rooms as well. The hotel has several allocated parking spaces on the harbourside just beneath its location. These spaces are small, but protected with barrier poles so your car is safe. These spaces cost £5 per night but are well worth it, since as mentioned in other reviews with Brixham, car parking is very limited. Consulting with Matthew, he will explain the variety of options for dining, and since Brixham has become much more gentrified there are no a number of dining options that cover a range of experiences and pockets. Matthew can explain these all. All in all, it’s a superb gem and well deserves its maximum rating. I would not stay anywhere else.…

Stayed for a end of week break, with good communication from a couple of questions we had before our stay, a warm helpful welcome, handy parking on the Quay, a really warm & comfy room followed by a great delicious breakfast each morning. The house is very clean, tidy, welcoming & professional run.

Lovely place to stay. Mathew and Rosie were perfect hosts! Rooms were what you would expect from an old building but tastefully done. View from our bedroom onto the harbour was just picture postcard stuff! Breakfast was the perfect set up for the day and was wholesome enough for us to not need any lunch!!
