Sloop is in a nice setting by bantham bay. Also dogs are welcome which is great for us. The burgers were really nice although I wish places would learn that most people like their bacon to not look like it's just come out of the packet! My wife's steak was disappointing and mostly fat which for £18 is not great....

Arrived here after a 10 mile walk. Staff very friendly and a good selection of drinks, albeit a bit on the expensive side. Its a lovely Inn with nice comfy sofas to sit an relax. We did not eat here as I really thought the food was extremely expensive for pub food. However I enjoyed our drinks and atmosphere and...

"I'm a local" a lady with a South African accent informed us at the bar just before we had dinner, same charm school as the other "local" who took us to task for being too inquisitive for her liking, whilst looking around "her" village, delivered more with an in-blown twang likely born of Bromsgrove or perhaps Fulham rather than Devon....

. We've just spent a very pleasant few days at the Sloop Inn. It is a lovely old place and the food in the evening was excellent - a few people have said its expensive but coming from Surrey, we didn't find it so and the portions were generous and freshly cooked. The breakfast lacked imagination and having the 9-9.30...

We arrived before the place was open so were sent away, but we booked a table. On arrival the welcome was OK, but I felt I'd entered a clique - locals took prority clearly. With young children in tow we chose a mixture of dishes, from fthe ubiquitous fish and chips ("very good") to fish pie ("pretty basic and not...

Our second visit. The food is a good standard, but the kids meals for £5.50 each, when the sausage and chips only had one sausage (and it wasn't big) and then they charge extra for beans or peas - and this isn't a kids deal including ice cream or anything - this was extortionate. I don't mind paying £5.50, IF...

We had two rooms for 3 days and were OK for what I paid, but the carpets in room 2 are not nice and cleaning with a little more effort would go a long way. See pictures and make up your own mind if I have been honest in my description. They don't make up the room if you don't...

Visited the Sloop Inn for a lunchtime snack. Two of us had the goujons as a lite bite and I had the cheese and pickle sandwich. Firstly the portion sizes were huge. But most importantly the quality was excellent. Tasted the local Sloop beer which was light to the taste but excellent for a lunchtime. Staff were very welcoming and...

We didn't stay, just ate lunch on a very wet Sunday. Staff in the pub were friendly and the food was traditional and excellent. Great if you like meat and two veg and large custard desserts like sticky toffee. Family friendly menu and seating. Good for worn out walkers also dog friendly and take card.

I really want to like the Sloop Inn as all the staff were friendly and helpful but I really felt that it could have done with a good slap of paint (including removal of old paint, a rub down and then quite a bit of filler) and more of a reduction for very off peak times such as January. I...
