Travelling as a family of 6 adults, we booked the 4 night package as a break together to experience Christmas away from home due to a significant bereavement on Christmas Day 2020. We arrived on a very wet Christmas Eve and couldn’t get a taxi to the hotel. I rang to see if there was any way they could help and the hotel minibus was dispatched immediately to collect us. Dave the driver was so friendly and we were very grateful not to have to wait for the bus so an excellent first impression. On arrival there was a mix up with our rooms but this was dealt with in a courteous and professional manner and didn’t impact our stay once it was sorted out unduly. All meals apart from Christmas Day were served in the Victor Hugo restaurant from a 3 course set menu. The choice was fairly limited and the same every evening but we all found something to eat that was delicious. Breakfast is always a highlight at the SPP and didn’t disappoint. Christmas Day lunch was a choice between a sit down meal or a carvery buffet. As a family we opted for the buffet. The choice of starters and presentation of the food was fantastic. The staff were constantly topping everything up and there was more than enough food for everyone. The carvery was turkey, beef and pork with all the trimmings you would expect and it was delicious. There was a choice of desserts and the chocolate fountain was a highlight with the children. The cheeseboard was superb. The atmosphere in the La Fontaine dining room was lovely. The tables had been beautifully decorated and there was a little gold gift box for everyone containing party poppers and balloons etc. Christmas music played in the background, Santa visited and everyone had a joyful time. The staff worked incredibly hard to ensure all ran smoothly and it did. Later that evening, though we were sure we wouldn’t eat again for days, we managed to wander down for tea around 8pm where we enjoyed a light supper that really hit the spot. The hotel provided an active program that included excursions out to parts of the island and to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. The weather wasn’t particularly kind and so this probably wasn’t as popular as it might have been had the weather been dry. Within the hotel, you could join a Christmas quiz, play bingo, watch the Queens speech or enjoy a board game or jigsaw. Lots of fun! The staff were all amazing and so helpful and especially kind towards our son who has communication difficulties and made lots of ‘friends’ while he was there. The spa was open every day during our stay and we enjoyed the warm pool, sauna and steam rooms. The lake was lovely to walk around when there was a gap in the rain. It truly was a wonderful break in every way and we look forward to returning again soon having missed our yearly trips over the pandemic. Thank you to everyone for working so hard to put the magic into Christmas and looking after us.

I have been back to the hotel restaurant twice now. I am from Geneva so the first time I went to eat the Swiss fondue, a total disappointment, the cheese had no taste and especially why put vegetables that are not fresh? It didn't smell good ! Then today I went for lunch, very happy to see that it had Café Paris sauce, one of my favorite sauces! So happy to be able to eat a good sauce, my dish arrived waitress said to me café de Paris: I answer her me, thank you. I couldn't even recognize my dish because the Café de Paris sauce was not like the original! A total disappointment and horrible just oil and had No taste! I want to tell the Chef that if you want to make a fondue or make the sauce "Café de Paris" please look again in your recipe book how to do it! This is outrageous! Then, a little note for the waitress where I simply asked for Coke and she serves me Pepsi I ask her nicely if she can give me a bottle of Coke and that she is as unpleasant! She gave me the bottle of coke by slapping the bar hard and saying don't bother me anymore! I was horrified and scared to ask her for ice and lemon for my coke! Afternoon tea: I didn't like the cupcakes very much and you forgot the jam! But to finish a nice note, the tall brown waiter who was there at 13:25 until probably 16:00 was great! Thanks for the good service!

Dear Royaumeuni19, I'm sorry to read your review from your recent restaurant experiences. This is the first we have known about your disappointment over your meals as nothing was mentioned at the time. Our Swiss Fondue has been incredibly popular, so much so, that we extended it into January and the feedback overall has been extremely complimentary. I'm sorry that you felt it was tasteless and that the vegetables weren't fresh. Our fondue is made to order and the vegetable preparation done just prior to service so I'm sorry you felt this way. With regards to your Café de Paris butter, we make it in-house with lemon juice, Worcestershire Sauce, Dijon mustard, anchovies, shallots, butter, tarragon, parsley, garlic and paprika. I'm sorry to read about the customer service you received, perhaps you could you email me directly at eknights@handpicked.co.uk with a description and if you have it, a name of the person as I have no idea who this could be currently. If you return again in the future, please do let me know so we can ensure you only have the best of meals. With warm regards, Emma Knights Deputy General Manger

St. Pierra Park is located on the edge of the main town on Guernsey, about a 20 minute walk along a very busy road to the centre with restaurants, shops and the water front. The hotel itself, both the public areas and the bedrooms, needs some money spent on it to improve maintenance upkeep. Many areas were scruffy, and the decor in general felt very tired. Breakfast is in the form of a buffet with a-la-carte options. The buffet was disappointing, and the item I had from the menu one morning wasn't great.

We had a problem with the room initially but for the second night it was sorted out efficiently. Just be aware though that a twin room could mean two beds pushed together with one head board encompassing both beds. Also, there was no way of separating the beds unless you removed the bedside tables. In my view, I shouldn’t have to start moving the furniture around to be able to make the twin room that I’ve booked into an actual twin room. I dealt with the on-duty manager about this & she was extremely good at helping to address the situation. So even though I wasn’t happy to begin with, I ended up very impressed at the attention & resolution of the problem. The new room that we were allocated was comfortable & clean & once the initial problem was resolved we enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much.

Room Tip: Be careful when booking a twin room - it might not be as ‘twin’ as you might want it to be.

We decided to book for my other half’s birthday. Choice of the suite was a no brained due to use of own hot tub. The size of the suite was very nice and all clean and very comfortable. The balcony garden was amazing giving lovely view of the lake and fountain. Golf course nearby and also hotel had good pool and gym facilities. Advantage of cooked breakfast in room was very nice and relaxed touch. Have booked again nearer to the birthday.
