Detailed Reviews
I visited Guernsey with my cousins for a very much needed break, we stayed for a week at the wonderful Bella Luce Hotel as my cousins had stayed there before.
This is certainly a Jem of a hotel, situated in St Martin, a large period building with lots of class and character, the rooms have undergone major refurbishments during lockdown but still maintain their charm with period furniture.
The hotel is owned and run by Luke Wheadon, a local who greatly impressed me, he is a hands-on boss who helps out the staff, goes out of his way to speak to guests and assists them with their stay and holiday plans. I chatted to several staff members during my stay, as is my want, and they each spoke highly of Luke.
We were allocated / upgraded to Loft Suites which were magnificent, large bedroom and very well-equipped bathroom and facilities. A nice desk and excellent WIFI which for me is essential as I have to stay in touch with work daily and also had several internet meetings. Very quiet rooms being at the top of the building, linen was changed on request which in the current circumstances was acceptable.
All the young staff were so nice and friendly and go out of their way to offer the best of service with a smile or cheeky grin, especially the young barman and waitress India, however one night they were off and the older staff who took over were not as nice, in fact we had very poor service that night.
Quite extensive grounds that you can walk round before breakfast, a nice small swimming pool and area ideal for children but it was a little unkept and water somewhat dirty.
The restaurant and bar are combined to give a large area to eat and drink, the menu for dinner was extensive offering a wide range of dishes with local produce especially sea food and fish, the seafood platter was superb, if you chose to eat there every night during a week’s stay you would be able to choose a different meal every evening. A very nice choice of wines to accompany. Throughout our stay the restaurant was always busy with guests and visitors happily dining. The quality of the food was excellent, well presented and large portions, such good value for money and you were not at all rushed. Breakfast was good and your individual choice cooked to order. We also decide to join for Sunday roast lunch which was very special and greatly popular with the locals, the restaurant is not open Sunday evenings or Monday, we had difficulties booking a local restaurant or even a restaurant in St Peters Port and resorted to buying snacks and eating them in the bar Monday evening.
This hotel seems to attract a very nice class of clientele, I had a lovely break, relaxed and recharged my batteries, I will certainly visit again.
Thanks everyone!

I have stayed in this hotel several times before and it has always been excellent. As all hotels they have had to adapt to the challenges of Brexit and Covid and on the whole seem to be managing well. Sadly not quite enough staff and some minor updating could have been done during lock down ready for re opening. If the pool was cleaned and covered at the end of the summer that would make a great different to overall appearance as it looks very scruffy now. Well done all the staff who were working, we had a most enjoyable stay. On a point of Covid recommendations, a secured to the floor hand sanitising suit at the entrance would be good and another going into the dining area. A few half full mucky bottles lying around did not give confidence. The secured ones are very attractive long stainless steel poles with a container on the top and are foot operated. Totally safe.

We spent 4 nights here and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is situated in a tranquil, leafy part of the island just a short walk from two lovely rocky bays. It's an easy drive from St Peter Port and the local bus goes right past the entrance.
Our room (107) was very large with a very comfortable bed, a sofa and a great bathroom with bath and walk in shower, all well furnished and decorated. We'd booked dinner on our first night (a Friday) and it was excellent, one of the best meals we had during our weeks stay in Guernsey. In fact it was so good we wanted to eat there again towards the end of our stay there but for some reason the restaurant is closed on Sunday evenings and Monday, so that was that! Breakfast is first class too.
All the (young) staff we met were very friendly and caring and very eager to make our stay a very pleasant one.
We would without doubt stay there again - but there were a few things that we felt could be better; firstly, there is no real bar area where you can sit and have a drink before you go anywhere else, or even have dinner (everywhere is laid up for dinner) and the large lounge area is rather bare and used for storage so again not a great place to sit - unfortunately the first two days we stayed it rained so we couldn't use the garden as an alternative. Finally, the pool area was not very well kept.
Having said that we really enjoyed our stay, and luckily there were three other places to eat within a 15 minute walk so it wasn't necessary to drive. We loved Guernsey, and would be pleased to stay there again if we returned.

We stayed for 4 nights Saturday -Wednesday. The restaurant was only open on Saturday night…closed for the rest of the time. The one meal we had was fabulous but no one recommended alternatives for the 3 nights that were closed and as it’s out of town, it proved relatively difficult.
The hotel has seen better days. Our room was small, bed uncomfortable, pillows lumpy. The hot water for the shower only came on it you ran the hot tap in the sink and the shower at the same time. 10 full minutes later of cold water, a terrible noise came out of the pipes. This continued for the length of the shower. On the last morning we could only get a cold shower.
The outside area was uncared for…weeds growing up around the pool, leaves everywhere. The pool wasn’t clean
Terrible stay and definately wouldn’t recommend.

Really poor show from the hotel. This is on behalf of my grandparents who stayed there from the 28-2 September. My Grandad is blind so finding the correct setting is always tough we did notify the hotel and they did try their best to accommodate upon arrival. The room was nothing special for the close to £200 fee a night, wifi was non existent for them during the entire stay when in the room. No AC unit so the room was hot too again poor for £200 a night. When arriving back at night the lobby was pitch black and no way to turn any light on making it very hard for my elderly grandma to navigate her and my grandad who is blind through the hotel. Today when leaving, zero effort was made to help them with their bags and they had to do that by themselves whilst trying to get downstairs. It is a tired hotel and isn’t worth the money they charge! Expected better and feel rather let down by the service. Hope to hear a reply or response soon.

Not sure how this has excellent reviews as we have just visited and we were really disappointed. They really need to up their game and although the food and staff were great we will not unfortunately be staying again, unless there are improvements. I would not therefore recommend this property at the current time unless it was just for a long weekend stay or for the Gin tasting which was really good.
It sounds as though we stayed in the room described in the previous review. The bed was uncomfortable, the shower and toilet didn't work, the room was really small and cramped. We also had a cold shower and it also made a loud noise! I would have hoped that if the previous reviewer had complained in July it would have been repaired by now!
It was also really noisy in the room we were in and as we were there for more than a couple of days, we didn't sleep well which is not what you want on holiday.
There were also many people coughing in the hotel while we were there, there were absolutely no covid controls and poor ventilation throughout. More and more people seemed to be coughing as our stay went on. They really need to look at their Covid Risk assessment and review. Nobody thought about simply leaving doors/windows open throughout and particularly ventilation in the restaurant.
Another good thing about this hotel as I have said is the food and they are good particularly with food allergies which should be commended. The restaurant and bar staff were also always very helpful and their service was excellent. So, great for food, gin, rum etc. but not so good to stay at the moment for more than a few days.

A couple of weeks ago we were guests at a wedding at the Bella Luce. Like all Guernsey hotels I believe they were short staffed and we had to wait for food and drinks a little longer than normal. However, the staff were absolutely lovely. All our requests ( mostly for more wine) were met quickly and with friendly politeness even though I’m sure our table were a bit of a pain the more we drank. (Sorry) The lovely local pair who waited on us looked after us so well even though I’m sure they were under a lot of pressure. Thank you Indy (I think) and your friend with the septum piercing.

We booked this hotel within 3 days of arriving at the end of March. Then unbelievably a day later we got Covid. We knew that our booking was non refundable but we asked the hotel if they would provide a voucher for a rebooked visit as the ferry company, Condor, had done for us. They refused. Very unimpressed.

+1
We had a staycation at the hotel. The offer included a gin tasting and a credit towards dinner.
The gardens are lovely to sit out and even on a windy day quite sheltered. It is a beautiful old building with modern interiors to the bedrooms.
The food was amazing. We eat out a lot but I think that is the best fillet steak I have had ever.
Staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble.
The lady running the restaurant was very friendly and helpful despite being busy.
George who did our gin tasting and tour was a font of knowledge and also entertaining.
Receptionist was efficient and friendly and created a great first impression.
We had a standard room. It was beautifully decorated, bathroom was a good size with modern fittings. Shower was amazing. Bed extremely comfortable.
All in all a fabulous stay and your team are a credit to the hotel. We will be back.

Yes Bella Luce is a quirky hotel. But we had a great time staying there.
Breakfasts were delicious and the staff very helpful.
A new staff member turned up. I think his name was Will. He was a great addition to the staff. Always there to help and offer any advice on bus time tables etc.
The hotel could do with a little tender loving care and I hope that happens in time.
Thanks Bella Luce staff, we had a great time.

There isn't a lift but we were in a ground floor annexe room so you could request that
We can certainly accommodate your dietary requirements and can make sure there is no cross contamination in the kitchen. We have dealt with the Coeliac group locally and so understand the cleanliness that is required on all preparation and cooking surfaces. In 2017 we will be offering entirely separate menus for gluten free and vegetarians.
