We were so looking forward to spending the night at the Tennessean. We were impressed that a representative from the hotel called us two days before to discuss our room type, preferences, and check in time. I told her 12 noon. When we showed up at 1pm, we were told the room was not yet ready. We returned around 3pm to be told that the room was ready, but not on a high floor like we had discussed with the representative. Lo and behold, not only was the room not on a high floor (it was on the second floor), but it had no view whatsoever. 80% of the window was frosted because it looked out directly on a rooftop worksite. The room we booked (and paid a higher price for) was labeled to be premier, with a sweeping view. We complained to no avail. So very disappointed and feeling like we were taken advantage of. We booked through our Chase points program. I wonder if the hotel slighted us because we did not book directly with them.

The view from our panoramic view room was of the convention center on one side and the music pavilion and Henley St bridge on the other. Lovely. Furnishings in the room were surprisingly junky, but the bed was quite comfortable and linens luxurious. The biggest disappointment was that during our visit, Tennessee had the highest rate of Covid transmission in the WORLD, and yet none of the staff--front desk, concierge, housekeeping--wore masks, and there was no signage recommending mask wearing. For this reason, we didn't go to the exercise room, bar, or board room--all of which we had planned to do. I haven't stayed in a hotel of this caliber that was so careless about guest safety, and it made me embarrassed for Knoxville.

A wonderful hotel in Downtown Knoxville. Well appointed rooms, good service, friendly staff. Within walking distance of all major Knoxville sites but far enough away to provide calm and quiet. I’d especially like to recognize employee Will, who went out of his way to assist and to provide a memorable customer experience. We should all have employees like him! I will return to this lovely respite.

When driving from Chicago to Sarasota, Florida, my wife and I choose one of two routes--I-57 to I-24 to Chattanooga or I-75 or I-65 to Indianapolis to I-70 to Cincinnati to I-75 to Chattanooga. Knoxville is a thoroughly enjoyable destination, site of the University of Tennessee, Neyland Stadium, Thompson-Boling Arena and Calhoun's on the River. On this visit, we opted to stay at the Tennessean Hotel, the only Four-Diamond hotel in Knoxville. Located at 831 Henley Street, south of I-40, near the University of Tennessee campus and Neyland Stadium, connected to the Knoxville Convention Center and near Market Square and Old City, it features 82 guest rooms, an outstanding on-site restaurant and bar, fitness center, business center, valet parking, concierge and butler and valet service. Lots of luxury and comfort and elegance. We booked a Panoramic King room with 450 square feet, a king-sized bed, 55-inch TV with 48 HD channels, in-room safe, Keurig coffee maker, workstation desk, iron/ironing board, refrigerator and nearly 360-degree views of downtown Knoxville, the University of Tennessee campus and the Tennessee River. Obviously, it wasn't a football weekend or we probably would have had to settle for a campsite in nearby Southlake RV Park. Hardly a Four-Diamond destination.
