Very professional hotel staff, excellent food and service in the restaurant. Rooms are nicely proportioned offering both a tub and shower in a double sink bath. Beds are comfy and the hotel is dog friendly. Ample parking and convenient to many downtown venues. Great three day weekend.
There are many things to like about the Carnegie. It's a classic hotel, it's walkable to the Martin Center (we were in town for a concert), parking is free, rates our reasonable (be sure to dig further into the online system to find the AARP or AAA discounts) and the breakfast (though not included in the room rate) is a steal. It would be nice if the bar stayed open longer. By the time we returned from the concert, the hotel was pretty much closed up tight.
Here for a Sunday Night concert with Robert Earl Keen at ETSU. This was right next door to the venue. Just walked right back to the room. This is old school ambience, and really comparable to a lot of other lodging in the area. Close to downtown, nearby breweries, and lots to do nearby. Huge bathroom, room was quiet (Yes there is a train near by, so what?). The staff was really great and knowledgeable. Did not eat there or do any thing at the spa. Pool looked nice. This feels like a big splurge when you are there, and yet I have paid far more for a chain hotel room. Thanks Carnegie staff for a great weekend!
We visited area for an event at ETSU. This hotel is across the street from the university. There is also a pedestrian bridge above highway if you want to walk to campus. We were very pleased with check in process and employees were very kind and helpful. Our room was very clean and well supplied. We would not hesitate to stay again. In fact, we look forward to doing so.
We were impressed as soon as we walked in with front desk staff.Dressed in suits and polite and efficient. The lobby is beautiful and Christmas decorations were amazing. It is an older hotel and we loved the decor. Our bathroom was huge and very accommodating. Yes some people may be offended by the scratches on furniture and older furniture but it fits perfectly for this hotel. We can't wait to go back.We would love to thank Harry at the front desk for offering to take our pictures .He also was the person I made my reservation with and I enjoyed talking with him.Be sure and check out Wellington Restaurant. We had great breakfast ,appetizers and drinks.
Beautiful hotel! Recent four-night stay at the Carnegie was wonderful! Clean, comfortable, spacious room with a large bath area (separate tub and shower with large vanity area and Gilchrist & Soames products). Sleigh beds in the 2-queen suite were very comfortable with fresh, crisp linens. Check-in and check-out were easy thanks to Harry and Melody's attention to detail and professional courtesy. Because this is an older property, the walls are thin (had a room that had an adjoining room option). Also, be aware of your surroundings when using the parking garage behind the property as it is not exclusive to the hotel.
I stay at the Carnegie in Johnson City each business trip.Inhace found it to be comfortable, clean , and meets all my needs . It is like walking back into the 1800.I would recommend it to all my friends and family .
After staying home for two years, due to Covid, my husband and I were looking forward to taking a trip. One of our favorite stops is in Johnson City, Tennessee at the Carnegie Hotel. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas! Our room was great. However, before we left home, we called to see if we needed dinner reservations. We were told that wouldn’t be necessary because of “light foot traffic”. We accepted that and trusted that what we were told was accurate. However, upon arriving we were turned away at the dining room because they were “fully booked until after 8PM.” This was at 5:45 PM. We were able to get a light meal in the bar area which is beautiful but not very comfortable for dining. The most disturbing and disappointing thing was that I had to sit and look at the empty tables in the dining room while we ate our salads sitting on stools. The lesson we learned was that a dinner reservation should be made regardless of well meaning information.…
The hotel is beautiful. The bathrooms are huge. There is a lovely spa and restaurant. It is super convenient for families visiting ETSU, which was our primary reason for choosing it. However, the walls are paper thin! The room next to us is playing Cards Against Humanity and I feel that I should get a turn too. Will have to reconsider future stays here. I think the dorms would be more peaceful.
Found bathroom to be tired/outdated. Wallpaper drab and view of parking lot. Flooring old and shower could be replaced. Sleigh bed headboard was all marked. Heard owner picks up old furniture fm estate sales. 25 year old hotel. Main reception beautiful, nice restaurant and pool. Friendly staff and helpful. Housekeeping on request - keep that in mind. Coffee machine broke but new one brought up promptly. Quiet which was appreciated. Old fridge - no microwave - and no breakfast not even a danish. Have to procure all your own meals. I’d say overall 3.5 stars ⭐️
