We have stayed at Thistletop Inn numerous times and Love, Love, Love it there!! From the warmth of Mary Jane’s greeting and her beautiful decor, to Fred’s scrumptious breakfasts, to the ambience of the exquisite wood and stone architecture of the home that embraces you with comfort and elegant style, everything is absolutely perfect! Our every need was provided for by Mary Jane and Fred, hosts extraordinare... thank-you so much for all that you do!! We will be back again soon for an in-house music concert and/or workshop! As if they weren’t already busy enough, Mary Jane and Fred host amazing musicians there at Thistletop Inn, on their lower level Spiral Stage... we can’t wait!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the Thistletop Inn. Fred and Mary Jane were terrific hosts. They made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was not only lovely, but extremely comfortable. We happened to stay on a weekend that they were having a house concert , which was a fun addition to our stay. We have already recommended the Thistletop Inn to our family and friends for a great place to getaway.

This lovely country inn is beautiful, cozy, filled with beautiful art, and bursting with hospitality. Our room was tremendously cozy and comfortable. Fred and Mary Jane are wonderful hosts— the most precious people you will meet. So glad we chose this place for our stay in Nashville and so glad we met them. We couldn’t be happier!

I was invited to a songwriting retreat at the Thistletop for two wonderful days in November. I was connected with the owners directly by the event organizers via email. Fred responded right away and couldn't have been more kind and accommodating. Since I hadn't personally booked/chosen this location I had absolutely no idea what I should expect. I've stayed in many "country inns" and they are often more miss than hit. What is supposed to come across as charm is soon seen through for what it really is, the general lack of attention and investment in the visitors' experience. Not at the Thistletop... From the moment I walked in the front door I was warmed and welcomed by the tastefully casual decor and furnishings, the craftsmanship and aged rock walls, the oversize fireplaces, iron spiral staircases in a maze-like layout and the unmistakable spirit of true hospitality. As I walked toward the sound of voices in what I thought might be a reception desk, I was hit by the aroma of something obviously delicious being prepared. Turning the corner I arrived in a heart-like area of the main building filled with chef-worthy cookware and multiple gas stovetops. The laughter and candid conversation, ripe with humor, red wine, and homestyle cooking said: "come on in and dine with us." And then that's exactly what I heard from one of the hosts. Beef stew and greens after a long drive from Chicago was exactly what I needed. I sat and ate with the proprietors, their friends, and their adorable little bug-eyed dog while they told stories of the regional history and all of the legendary artists who had lived on the property or on the ranch up the hill. It was the most wonderful "check-in" I've ever experienced. "You're in The Avalon House whenever you're ready to get settled, just park in front and take the stairs up, we left the lights on" Perfect! Arriving at night, I couldn't see the grounds or really become oriented. But the sky was full of stars and the room was excellent. Just the right amount of original wood from the renovated barn and just the right amount of modern interior design to balance out the rustic quality of the space. I sat on a blue velvet couch in the living room and just let the world disappear. After a deep and restful sleep on a nice, firm bed I awoke to the most beautiful view of old-growth trees, rolling hills and smartly nested, well-maintained aged wood and stone buildings surrounding the renovated barn I was looking down from. Giant hawks circled above as I sipped my coffee and read by the front window. It's maybe never that I stay somewhere and drive away feeling like I will see the hosts again because I feel like they're friends of mine now. Two nights was not long enough... I could stay a Summer and write a book there. If you're looking for a spot in the Nashville area @ 25 minutes from downtown to block out for a group retreat or you just want to get away from it all and get some peace of mind, this is it. Oh, and you will be very happy to descend the spiral staircase into the bar and venue in the basement of the main building. Especially if they have a show... Some monumental talent passes through here on the regular. Happy to answer any questions. Safe travels! Musically, AM

We were planning to stay in Downtown Nashville, thank goodness we didn't. Our good friends told us about a real nice place about 20 min. from Nashville called the Thistletop Inn. My wife and I looked into the Thistletop, and we liked the looks of it and decided to book a 3 night trip. On our arrival we had the pleasure of meeting the owners/caretakers; Fred and Mary Jane what nice people. Mary Jane showed us around the complex and then she showed us our room. We stayed in the Avalon House and it was such a nice place. The decor was tasteful, it was very clean and it was just a great get away. The first night we did take an Uber to Downtown Nashville cost was around $40 round trip, but it beat trying to park. Every morning we would get ready, and make our way to the main house for breakfast. Fred was a great cook, they had almost anything and everything that you would want for breakfast; eggs to order, fresh fruit, and daily would they had something different with the eggs, and fruit. One day waffles, then pancakes they would add sausage and bacon, but everyday something different and special. It was nice talking with the other guests, and talking with Mary Jane and Fred about our days adventures. If you are looking for a very nice place to stay with great owners; we would highly recommending that you plan a vacation either long or short at the Thistletop Inn!!!
