This is a tough one. The Great: This hotel is beautiful. It's also got a great history. The location can't be beat. The room, which was a very reasonable price, was large with a luxury bathroom, HVAC that actually had options of cool or warm with a range of temperatures. The Good: the mattress in our king room was kind of worn and lumpy and soft enough that anyone over 40 might not love the way their back feels in the morning; the linens were also kind of floppy and not well put together just making for an awkward sleeping struggle. The Not So Good: the bar (which is beautiful) had a bartender that seemed very annoyed to be a bartender and - most importantly, we ordered room service at 1015pm (it stops at 11pm on Saturday nights). We were very hungry after a show, but it was very cold so we decided to watch the game and chill in our room. The man who answered the room service after about 10 attempts to transfer from the front desk said it would be "about an hour" - okay, no big deal, it's a Saturday. But then 1130, no food, 1145, no food, midnight, no food. At 1215pm , we tried to call and the front desk said room service was closed up for the night and "sorry, but she would let a manager know". Then, as we left the next morning, we called room service to see what had happened and they were clueless and just kind of said "sorry, I can tell a manager." I understand hotels are short staffed, but this was all pretty unacceptable. We expected at least an apology call or email , or best case, some food credit for future stays, etc. But, here we are three weeks later, and it's been ignored. The Ugly: it's Tennessee, don't expect masks anywhere, or any kind of social distancing even in the elevators which were packed.

The overall review for this hotel is a 10 if I could give it! The beds were very comfortable and loved the bathroom! We also took the tour of the infamous haunted room where someone was murdered and Al Capone stayed during his trial. The decor and the building itself reminds me of the 1920s. Even the Bell Hop outside wore a hat to match. This is a great place to get away for a night or two for relaxation, indoor pool, room service, pool table, and bar. All safety precautions were made bc of the COVID pandemic and felt very comfortable. Also, having a Starbucks down stairs made it even better! I can’t wait to come back for pleasure instead of business!

The hotel is gorgeous! Bed is fantastic, however, the service was very lacking. The toilet quite working three separate times, but no offer was made to move rooms, to discount the night or even to offer free valet as a way to make it right. Upon check out, valet retrieved the car by handing us the keys and leaving us on the sidewalk with luggage rack and luggage to be loaded. It’s the little things that would have been nice.

Absolutely delighted by the beauty of this historic hotel, as well as its impeccable manners and service! I took my mom and daughter for a girls’ weekend in Chattanooga and could not have chosen a more wonderful hotel. It’s on par with some five-star European hotels I’ve loved.

If you're ever in Chattanooga and have the opportunity to stay at the historic @readhousehotel built in 1872 take it!! Even if only for a night. The decor and ambiance takes you back roughly 130 years in style!! The hotel is rich with stories and history including a tour to the room Al Capone was held in after an arrest and he was being transported, which happens to be the same infamous "Room 311" that is said to be haunted by... well if you're interested you'll have to look it up😘
