Clean, Friendly and the bar and grill was awesome. Great staff.
Close to HWY 90, amazing views, small town, with small town friendly folks.
The food at the bar/grill was excellent. The views of the surrounding mountains, while eating and enjoying a drink, sitting in the outside area, perfect.
The room very clean, everything was in order. Well done!

After driving 11 hours, we found our reservation at a nearby (12 miles away) motel had been "lost" and no rooms were to be had due to a rodeo and music fest that weekend. Yikes, what now? The desk clerk at our scheduled motel, came running out as we were getting into our car, saying she found us a room. Located 1/2 way between Spearfish and Sturgis is the town of Whitewood. As we approached, the motel was past a set of RR tracks and as we turned onto the service road location, we became a little apprehensive. The jokes flew about how we would be spending the night in our car, except we had already given our credit card number. The location is away from city lights and we were not sure just where we were. I went in for our key, found a helpful and pleasant gentleman behind the counter and his small children in a living room located behind the front office watching TV. We went to our room, and everything was new. Just beautiful. The owners had invested a lot into this motel. It was easy to see, from the motel name and pictures on the wall, intended guests were bikers. Except for minor, minor shortcomings ( no table to lay items on, hand towel rack by sink and wider shower curtain). It was a great night, so peaceful. All rooms, I was told, have 2 queen beds all one level with outside entrances. I later saw hook ups outside for RV's also. My hubby said, someone was watching over us, as he said the other motel's neighborhood was not the best. In the morning, we saw we were in a scenic rural neighborhood. The motel looking immaculate and maintained. We determined, as another couple pulled up, that motels that were booked sent their overflow to the Iron Horse. After checking out with the wife at the desk, my hubby and I saw realty signs that indicated the motel was up for sale. I said it was a shame, but because of their out of the way (yet really not) locale, they were most likely having a hard time of it. So I wanted to review them and wish the couple the best. Stay here if you like peace and quiet and a great night's rest.

This is a place that is better for people traveling by motorcycle especially due to the parking. They also have water and electric spaces for camping...and places for tents. It has pros and cons both. For the rally, the convenience to Sturgis was exceptional...5 to 10 minutes to downtown happenings and 20 minutes to Full Throttle Saloon and Buffalo Chip. Being west of Sturgis was great for the riding you want to do while at the rally..from Spearfish to Deadwood...to Devils Tower and the Needles Hwy and Mt Rushmore....and on.
The front desk staff was wonderful... very cheery and helpful...plus knowledgable about the local happenings. They appear to have a lot of young folk helping out during the rally that are not accustomed to the ins and outs of hotel upkeep..but were able enough to keep up with demand. The worst thing I can say about this is we did have to ask for a few things a couple of times.. (like leaving a bath mat)...and would assume they only do this type of work for the rally.
We did notice on arrival that there was a very strong smell...something akin to formaldehyde...as in something being redone recently...maybe carpets and countertop for the sink. (?)
There is only a shower stall- no tub in the bathroom area.
The room is smaller than average with 2 beds placed quite close together and a rack behind the door for hanging clothes and storages.
There is no pool or hot tub….but not a big deal for us as we were there for the rally.
We would most likely stay there again for the rally…and the price was not too bad considering the prices of other places we checked for this event…actually a somewhat decent price…again considering….
Again, I do want to mention how awesome the front desk staff was. They found our resevations immediately and really seemed happy to help us.
They also had a concession tent on site for the rally which was nice, plus a shuttle into Sturgis if you wanted to have some fun with no worries…lol ! Our shuttle driver happened to be from a town in our home state a short drive from us. All in all, I would recommend The Iron Horse Inn for the rally..and for Motorcycle enthusiasts…maybe not so much for a family getaway..or romantic weekend…unless you are there for the riding.

I arrived at the hotel which I paid $330 per night for expecting a nice facility. This was below basic : two beds, no other furniture. A coat rack by the door and the sink beside the coat rack with no counter space so to speak. there was a shower stall and a toilet with very cheap towels just above toilet paper grade. Not that I watch TV but there was a very small cathode ray TV mounted in the corner of the room, which I have not even seen the likes of for decades. After dropping an item on the floor I noticed under the bed was filthy with trash and other debris. There was human hair on one of the pillows. the next morning I went to inquire about breakfast which they offered $15 per plate for a grill, prepared, eggs, etc., When I went to the front desk it seem like they expected me to be leaving as I was greeted with, “you’re checking out have fun”. I checked out the first morning of a three day stay after pre-paying for the non-refundable $1008 dollar disaster.

A quick search online found a very nice hotel tub, pool, workout room and close-by restaurants in the center of deadwood at less than half the price of the Iron Horse. hope this saves you a big mistake..

Needed a pet room and judging by reviews, seemed like a good enough motel in Whitewood. Oh man! Big dollars for a motel 6 room. Mattress was thin and hard with springs that dug into my back. Blanket was a green pilled rag. A million fly specks on the smoke alarm, battery every changed? The room badly needed a fresh coat of paint including outside door trim. Dingy is the word for this room. New looking carpet was the only plus. We enjoyed IBar restaurant and bar. Wings and pizza are very good. Great bartender!

This motel is perfect for bikers. They have covered parking for inside rooms, plenty of parking for truck and trailer, room for campers, chairs outside rooms. There is laundry and restaurant/bar on site. There are 4 buildings, each has hose and buckets for bike wash. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. Small grocery in town, Walmart is 15 min away, Sturgis is 5 miles down road. The rooms are clean and simple, no fridge or coffee maker, we brought our own mini fridge and coffee pot and it worked out perfect. The majority of people staying there have been staying there for years and are very friendly and helpful with information. The location is perfect, easy access to 90, Sturgis 5 miles, Spearfish 15 min, close to Alt 14 to Deadwood. It was very quiet even during Rally. We will definitely be coming back next year.

Great place, clean simple. Quiet little town with good restaurants. Just a short ride to Spearfish, Sturgis or Deadwood. Stayed in 2005 and 2012 and I will recommend it to anyone traveling. The hotel is for sale , sad to see this. The only problem I see is lack of marketing. Because it was very clean and comfortable, and the hospitality was great. Easy acccess to I-90 and the Black Hills .

Easy to find. Close to Sturgis and all the great rides in the area. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and good housekeeping. Price was ok for rally week. Great pizza and cheeseburgers and friendly and fun bar staff. Really enjoyed our stay and plan on being there for 2016.

We were on a road trip passing through South Dakota and was wondering why every single motel in the area was crazy expensive. We hadn't realized we were in town the week before the sturgis motorcycle rally! This was only the affordable option we could find with such short notice. I was a bit worried I would be a fish out of water since we weren't big motorcycle people. However, the staff were amazing and the room well exceeded our expectations. Very comfortable, clean rooms for a great price. Really enjoyed the vibe. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to my friends.

It seemed to be quiet while we were there. But, we weren't there for the Black Hills Rally. Remember, the rooms are small so if you have smaller children you're going to be cramped.
