This is coming from first time Sturgis attendees, so we really had no direction where to start, so we decided on Shade Valley. First, let me start with the pros. We REALLY like this campground. The location was great, the shower houses were really clean and roomy. The food was actually reasonably priced and really good, and the entertainment was really great. It's a quiet campground with quite a bit of shade. The bartender, Kelly was awesome and you could tell that the 'waitresses' were new and she was really patient with them. All in all, yes, I would return to this campground, but with some definite changes. Now for the cons: We rented an 'RV' and RV is in quotes because it was basically a s***hole. We paid 2k to stay in a 1980's camper that had it's fair share of mice and dead bugs. The linoleum on the floor had been stapled down several times that I almost wanted to buy stock in the staple company. NO hot water. We even told them twice and they said they came out and 'fixed' it, but after 3 days of no hot water, we gave up and hoofed it to the shower house. Oh, and the A/C in the trailer...was a POS, so when the trailer became a sauna in the afternoon, we'd take the truck into Rapid City just to have some A/C. Then we'd come back to the campground and relax in the shade and enjoy the evening. Thank Goodness for the South Dakota weather because at least it would get down to 60 degree weather so we got decent nights sleep (you know, thinking about where the mice were at). You also had to pay extra for the wristband to get you in and out of the campground and had to wear it the whole time you were staying there and they'd check it every time you wanted to come back in. For the price we paid for the trailer, the wristband should have been included, so yes, you pretty much had to pay for each individual item you wanted. At least the shower houses were free, but they did have a tip bucket for the folks who cleaned them. With all of that being said overall, I'd stay there again because the only major complaint we had were the accommodations and the price for said accommodations. The location was great and easy to get to. Generally, the staff were really nice (you know, there's always that one guy). I wouldn't bother to pay for another RV and would, instead rent one and haul it there. It was quiet and all of the fellow campers were really nice. We met a lot of awesome people there and really enjoyed our time there.

In 2017 we went and this place was great. All kinds of activities and entertainment in the Eye Candy Saloon; wet t-shirt contest, sexy bull riding, body painting, good bands, and great servers. Even provided you with a free Da Bus Pass. Also, everything was very clean. In 2018, new ownership took over and things changed big time, and not for the good. You want a porta-potty near by, pay me. You want a picnic table, pay me. You want fun activities in the bar, nope, going to get rid of them. Big name bands, nope, cost to much. That fee Da Bus pass, even though we told you it was included, we are not going to provide it. (After threat of a bait and switch lawsuit, they provided Da Bus pass one last time). Such a dramatic change from 2017 to 2018, we took our business elsewhere. I spoke to people last year and this year and they said the same thing, very boring, clean, but boring and way to far away.

Make sure you have EVERYTHING in writing before you have your wedding there. The owner tried changing MANY things AFTER we paid and were already there to set up. Also VERY rude to family members and even yelled at a few elderly ones that were helping set up. The staff was nice. Just a psycho owner that has a great sales pitch but isn’t an honest person.

Stayed here while staying in Sturgis with family. Great quiet Rv park with a saloon and entertainment daily. Large sites with full hookups, nice washrooms and bathhouse. Restaurants onsite serving breakfast, tacos, beer garden, and burgers and such. Great place to return to after a day of riding and sightseeing.

I will admit when I seen the photos about Shade Vally camp ground I was nervous seeing that you had to walk to the bathroom and showers. But once we arrived it was really nice! The bathroom/shower area was SUPER CLEAN! We were very impressed!! They kept it very well maintained. Even for the go johns they cleaned them out everyday! It was very nice to see that they kept everything well maintained. I can’t speak well enough about how they put a lot of effort to having people keep it so clean. The only thing was that we stayed till sun morning that day the rally was over. The campground had no band show Friday or Sat. . It was very quite When we went up to check out the entertainment and it was like a ghost town. I do understand that people did leave the Friday but I thought there should of been some entertainment for Friday. And for the breakfast that last 2 days the selection was minimum and ran out of orange juice. Other than that the campground was very nice!

Stayed at Shade Valley with a group of friends when we all rode to Sturgis from the Kansas City area. Easy and simple reception when we arrived and the cabin we had reserved was exactly as described. This is a perfect place to end the day and actually get some sleep away from the craziness of the rally. Easy and nice ride to/from town each day, very clean showers and the porta johns were served and clean regularly. Did't eat there much so can't really comment on that and the drinks were as high as every other place but having 'Da Bus' available and the excellent laundry service more than made up for all of that. All in all I'd certainly recommend staying here at any time.

We have stayed at Shade Valley numerous times. This year they are under new management. There were things that they did well and some things that need to be looked at to see if they can improve. The breakfast buffet was the best improvement. It is the best breakfast buffet that we have found during the rally. The food court food was reasonably priced. Kudos to the Chef and his team. The port-a-potties were cleaned daily. The shower houses are always very clean. Picnic tables were plentiful in the area we tent camped. A couple of things that would be nice. Return of the green sunshades. All the frames are there but very few coverings in place. They are nice when the weather turns for the worse. A couple of foot bridges over the creek on the east end of the campground would shorten up the walk to the shower house. Now for the things that need to be addressed prior to next year. The road system needs some attention. The main/only road in and out of the campground became dangerous after the rain that occurred on the evening of August 6, 2018. I witnessed a touring motorcycle wreck in a large mud puddle on Sportster Rd. I also heard of many more that went down in this same area. I realize that rain caused it, but it generally rains at least once during the week of the rally. This campground caters to the motorcycle riders so this unsafe condition needs to be addressed. Also the new management has elected to close the north entrance. This in the past was generally a better way to enter or exit the campground on a motorcycle due to less congestion. This is especially true when several large travel trailers are arriving to check-in and they are backed up on the road leading to Shade Valley.

Shade Valley is under new ownership this year. We have stayed at this resort on several occasions and have always been very happy - Until this year. The cabins and bathrooms and shower facilities are still nice and clean. We ride to Sturgis so we don't have the luxury of carrying chairs/tables/BBQ with us. Something the new ownership added this year was picnic table rentals and we really enjoyed having somewhere to sit outside of our 'cabin'. ON THE DOWNSIDE: ENTERTAINMENT this year was extremely disappointing and lacking. Only option was the concerts and the bands weren't that great, although I did enjoy the drum solo by Jasmine Cain's drummer. In previous years there was bullriding, wet t-shirt contests, body painting, loud pipe contests.... Nothing like that this year. BORING! BREAKFAST/BURGER SHACK The new chef is good BUT only having a breakfast buffet as an option in the morning when all you really want is a coffee and a piece of toast is ridiculous. At least offer coffee and light breakfast options at the burger shack. PORT-A-POTTIES - This is a huge campground and port-a-potties used to be scattered throughout camp as an option to the running toilet/shower facilities. This year they decided to offer them as a rental if you wanted them at your cabin. Ridiculous! We spoke with several return customers who we have met over the year and each and every one of the ones we spoke with were disappointed (mainly in the lack of entertainment). We understand this is a learning year for the new ownership BUT they should have been out and about greeting people and getting feedback. It was disappointing enough that we are actually considering staying elsewhere on our next trip. As for value - we paid more for a one week stay here than we did in Mexico for a luxury condo.

This is the second time we have stayed at Shade Valley and we love it. Shaun and Ryan where the best in helping find the perfect spot for us to camp, they took the time to take pictures of different sites so we could decide what we liked. Brittany and I would like to say thank you to you both for that. Second we would like to recognize chef Shaun and Rubin for the great food especially the breakfast it was great. Rubin did a great job being it was the first time they did the buffet, it was great. they made it through the first day and got better from there on. Like to give a big shout out to Larry (aka black and orange goatee) for being such a good guy and friend, he has a great personality and truly cares for the guests. Larry was also very helpful and loves to give the campers nick names, he's a true friend and hope to see him next year. Thanks to Rick the man with the white goatee and hat he was friendly and a cool guy. Thanks to Alyssa, Jan and Lindsay the ladies in the front office for being very friendly, you guys are the front of the campsite and do a great job. I would also like to thanks the staff we never met, the staff that kept the grounds picked up and bathrooms clean, the bathrooms where always spot less (very clean), we appreciate that, i know how campers are and you ALL did a fantastic job. Too the new owners you guys ROCK, thanks for all you do and will continue to do, We will continue to come back to Shade Valley. I have stayed at many locations from Heart Ranch, Buffalo Chip and others and we truly LOVE Shade Valley and will continue to camp here. To the people that have never stayed at Shade Valley please check it out they care for there guests. Ryan Thanks, Thanks and Thanks for being who you are. please make sure you contact us right away we want to reserve are same spot. we will be bringing newbies with us next year.

No shade. Price gougers. Cancelled concerts. Gravel muddy roads. Really far from town. The store doesn’t have any toiletries or food. The restaurant ran out of food. We ordered something else because its the only place to eat and they got the order wrong. Took it back to have it fixed (because of a food allergy), they got it wrong again. Its not that hard to leave a tomato off of a hamburger. The bar bouncers were the only friendly people here. Waved at you every morning, answered questions we had and had good conversations with them. Website says free concerts for guests. Its a lie. You have to pay to camp and you have to pay for a wrist band ($165 per person) to see the concerts. All concerts were cancelled for the first week of august. So we got no entertainment. Rude guy in the store (the one who gets inconvienienced because your pulling his attention away from his computer games) refused to give us our money back for the wrist bands, nor did he make any attempt to make it right. All of our neighbors hated the place too but they were refused when they asked for a redund too, so we were all stuck at this place. Tried to leave a review on their FB page. They deleted it and blocked us from the page. Guess they dont want anyone to know the truth. Do yourselves a favor and don’t stay here. It will ruin your vacation.
