The attic is listed as a small cabin which can have up to 2 adults and 2 small children. We arrived after dark, there was a key in the office and a note, walked in the pitch dark to the cabin, climbed up the stairs and found it to be a very small attic with a pitched roof. If you are tall, you will be walking sideways. The bathroom and shower were worse as it is very tight in there. The floor was also uneven. It was not what we expected after a very long drive and hoping for a real cabin in the trees. False advertising.
After being relegated to a city apartment for 5 months during the pandemic, this was the perfect place to get away. The Mountain View Suite was exactly what we hoped for and is great for a couple or two friends. Sitting out on the cabin's deck with a wonderful view of the forest was incredibly calming. We passed many other cabin rental places like this, and they were all right on a highway. Silver Mountain Resort is off a much more secluded road, so it's very peaceful. Plus, it's well-located to many of the best Black Hills hikes. Everything was super clean, the kitchen was well-stocked with enough equipment to cook all of our meals, and it was so nice to have pool access in the hot South Dakota summer. We would definitely stay here again!
We stayed in the Silver Lining Cabin for one night after all the touristy stops in Rapid City. The bed was SUPER comfortable and the cabin had everything we needed. Perfect little stop. And the contactless check-in worked just great as long as you just read directions. Thanks!
It was nice and clean but it was tiny! The listing said it was a king size mattress but it was not, it was a queen. Also that mattress as firm as it gets pretty sure the floor would have been more comfortable than that rock hard bed. The location was somewhat hard to get to as it was deep down this little road to the point I thought we were gonna wake up to a grizzly at the front door. It was super cute and had every amenity you would need but just to small to do anything but sleep really. The hotel we stayed in the next night was the same price and 4 times the size with a real king bed and breakfast! We stayed in Silver Lining.
Prior to our arrival I called and spoke with the own to get a feel for the area and she was not helpful ( our past experience at other cabins the owners were super helpful). The day of our arrival I called again about check in, once again no personal touch just told to get our code from the office. Our cabin was a nice size but the futon and chair were old and worn out not even comfortable to sit on. Then there was the shower, so small our could barely move. Kitchen had all the stuff we needed but it was not clean, you need to wash everything prior to use. On our 2nd night we went the pool that was dirty with lots of debris and the water fall was not on, kids did enjoy. After swimming we went to grill our dinner but the grill was out of gas, called the owners and was told how to change the propane bottle. I would have thought that was the least they could do. The next morning we saw the own but they were not pleasant or friendly. Overall the cabin needs updated, probably does not meet fire code due to having drop cords ran though closet. Also would be nice if owners would be more helpful. We will be finding somewhere else for our annual SD trip.…
