Let me start by saying the front desk staff at check in were delightful. That’s the good.
The minute we pulled up I knew it would be a little jenky. Not sketchy, just jenky. They were however hoppin’ with several people checking in while I was in the lobby. Mostly senior citizens which we almost qualify for.
There is no elevator, the lobby was very warm and it is in SERIOUS need of some renovations. It was quiet and seemed clean enough but there was no counter space at the sink for your stuff, no outlets on one side of the bed and the carpet has seen much better days. It smelled very faintly of old cigarettes as I’m sure smoking was permitted until just a few years back and they most certainly have not replaced carpet, drapes, furniture since then. The bed was so springy it felt like a bus with blown out shocks.
Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here. There was half a dozen other choices in the same area, I’m not sure why this was rated “very good”.

My Husband need a back injection at 7:30 AM so we decided to stay in Rapid City, SD the night before the injection. He requires a recliner. I called 15+ (yes fifteen PLUS) motels and NO ONE had a recliner. The Foothills did have a room available with a recliner. It worked PERFECT. Do not understand why hotels do NOT provide a recliner in the handicap rooms. THANK-YOU Foothills for having a recliner.

This hotel is an older hotel with a lot of style. Staff seemed flustered always but were friendly enough. We had a second floor room that was medium in size and clean. Breakfast was very limited with a small eating area. Front desk said it was not a busy time for them, so I'm not sure I would want to see that. We were in area for Mt. Rushmore and Badlands- might be hotel located closer to both?

Foothills Inn does not honor third party booking quotes. We found and booked rooms for ourselves and guests through Expedia at what we found to be the lowest price for the Foothills Inn. The booking included a stipulation that a $10 “Destination Fee” per room be paid to the hotel upon arrival. However, when we arrived to check in at Foothills, our fee was doubled to $20 per room, per night. What was cheaper by booking through Expedia was now more expensive after Foothills added $40 to our cost. The older of two ladies was insistent on charging us double the Expedia agreement even after we showed her our agreement in writing. She had an angry demeanor when we showed her our booking. We learned that Foothills adds upon arrival, a “Destination Fee” to customers who use other booking sites (ie. Expedia.com), but does not tack on this fee if you book directly through their website. This appears to be a discretionary fee applied only to selective customers but not others. It is not a local tax required by regulation, but a fee that is added to bookings through a third party. Not all hotels in the area add this. If they are going to create a fee, then apply it consistently not selectively. As for accommodations, this hotel does not have an elevator. If you have limited mobility, you must pay extra for the accessible first floor. Foothills may have come up with another way to make an extra buck by charging more to those who are not able to carry their belongings up flights of stairs.

The place is fairly nice and the lady who checked us in was very nice. However, when I got home there was a separate charge on my credit card for $20. I tried to call Foothills Inn and the person who took my call was very rude to me, would not even look up the bill in the computer, and hung up on me! So then I emailed Foothills and they never responded. I would not recommend staying here.

DO NOT STAY HERE! I had already paid for the room but they charged us an additional charge that was double the original price AND will not give back the $100 deposit.

They claimed we had a dog in the room but we don’t even own a dog. My best guess is that they saw someone else with a dog but do not want to do the proper research to actually find out who had a dog in their establishment. I’ve tried calling them everyday to resolve this issue and I get contradicting information. They’ll say they have a manager and I need to call back or they’ll claim that they never have a manager on property.

They lie to you and claim that they have camera proof but the only information they can give us are things we’ve already told them. And when they’re caught in their lie, they’ll hang up on you.

You try to support local, but the hotel management is very frustrating. Accidentally booked the wrong date by a day, 4 months before our stay. It was nonrefundable, but all we wanted to do was move our reservation up one day. We offered to pay any fee difference. Hotel management refused to change it even though we asked over 3 months before our stay and they had rooms available.

I wasn't expecting much from a small inn where we were staying just for the weekend, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! The service and ambiance was better even than some big-name hotels we've been to in bigger cities. The place is cozy, quaint, and has a family feel. There is free coffee available at the lobby all day, as well as free breakfast. The breakfast consists of cereal, oatmeal, and bread, but it's something with which to start your day. You can't complain when it's free! The staff are all so nice and kind, they really have that midwestern charm. The place is humble but nicely decorated and clean, you can tell they care for their business. They also have a chessboard and a little library where you can trade in your book for another. It doesn't get better than that!

This hotel is really beautiful outside with lots of flowers, but inside was dirty! Our room had numerous things that obviously had not been cleaned. The ice bucket was dirty and had no clean bag to put inside it and the coffee maker had old coffee in it from the previous occupant. The bedspreads were also stained and one looked like it had blood on it. We used our own blankets instead. The worst part of the stay, however, was that strangers entered our room TWICE during the night. We were traveling with children so this was frightening. After complaining to the night staff and morning staff, it appeared that the front desk person assigned numerous families the same room, so I’m sure the people walking into our room were just as startled as we were. Overall this hotel was seriously disappointing considering the good reviews we saw before staying there. Hopefully our experience is not the norm.

Local hotel (not a chain). Great location off I90 and close to lots of restaurants and shops. Decent WiFi. Breakfast includes cereal, bread and Jimmy Dean sandwiches. Rooms are good sized but a little old (ok).

Overall, given the price, this is a great value in Rapid City.

There is very little masking and social distancing in SD! :(
