#2 of 18 Specialty lodging in Rapid City
Our goal is simple: create a space and atmosphere that allows peace, rejuvenation and quality time with others. In order for this to be made tangible, our cabins are filled with the modern comforts of plush furniture and full kitchens amidst the rustic character of knotty pine walls and custom-made log headboards. Our grounds reflect the natural setting of the Black Hills, replete with tree-covered hills, beautiful rocks, stillness and an array of wildlife: birds, squirrels, bunnies and the occasional flock of turkeys and herd of deer. While at our property, you are our guests and will be treated as friends. We will do whatever we can to make your time one of enjoyment and relaxation. Make time to get away; it'll be worth it.

We just finished a 3-4 day October stay at “the Barn” cabin at BackRoads Inn & Cabins as part of our family roadtrip from the east coast and could not have been more pleased. Our visit was just before snow/winter set in but cabin was warm and cozy (electric heaters throughout). Clean. Spacious for our family (boys 15, 11 and 6)... teenager loved having his own room down stairs while us parents and other two boys were in loft upstairs (us parents had own room too). Two bathrooms. Beds very comfortable. No issues with hot water. Cutely decorated with rustic decor. We did not use fire pit or seating area outside due to cool temps. Kitchen stocked with pots, pans, eating utensils and the basics like a cookie sheet, colander, toaster, coffee pot (with coffee and filters!), etc. They even provided supplies for a batch of s’mores! Provided WiFi in our cabin was spotty and not quite good enough for dependable streaming (our cabin was one of the farther cabins from the WiFi access point). Cell coverage (Verizon) was similar... always good enough for texting or calling but streaming video cannot be guaranteed (obviously nice to totally disconnect but one boy needed streaming for some school work). My only recommendation would be to have some type of on-premises laundry. Nearby Keystone (very convenient) had a single laundromat but it was closed for the season. Hill City apparently has one but we went to the laundromat in Rapid City (Parkway Laundromat - huge, clean). For those cautious about Covid / Corona Virus, note Backroads Cabins can not be beat. 100% contact free check-in and day-to-day living (key for the cabin upon arrival is in a lockbox you open yourself with code). We hope to come again and spend more time relaxing on premises than seeing all the beautiful sights.

We stayed in the Dan Patch with our kids and grandkids. We had more than enough space for 6 of us. The cabin is perfectly furnished and is absolutely a gem! The location of the Dan Patch Cabin is perfect as it is at the end of the long driveway, and sits alone at the base of a hill. It's very private! The firepit we used every night, and the smores left by the owner were an added bonus! Seeing the deer, wild turkeys and the fall colors was so peaceful. The location to Keystone, Hill City and Mount Rushmore can't be beat. We will definitely stay here again the next time we come to the Black Hills!

We stayed here during our trip to the Black Hills for three nights. Our family of 4 stayed in the Dan Patch cabin. It was a great location - you'll always have to drive in that area but it is centrally located. I will say the wifi was not good in that cabin if that is important to you. They do disclose that the wifi signal is variable depending on which cabin you are in. Also, the Keystone library let me open a card so we could rent movies to watch at night. The weird thing was is that all the DVDs played in black and white. I think there was something wrong with the way it was hooked up. We didn't worry about it. My younger son enjoyed the tire swing outside the cabin and the pool. It was a nice peaceful place to stay. We stayed the week before the Sturgis rally. It was great to be able to cook dinner in the cabin. We saw deer from the deck.

This place is even better and more beautiful than you'd expect than the pics on the website!! (Much better, in fact - and I liked those pics!) The location is PERFECT - really, I think I scouted out hundreds of places across the Black Hills and this one's a hop, skip, and a jump away from all the places to be (Mt Rushmore is I think 10-15 mins away? Super close, as is Crazy Horse and fun towns nearby) but in this secluded little valley about 5 mins away from Keystone. You're looking at trees and a valley - the black hills of the Black Hills. Interiors are updated with everything you could possibly want for cooking/living, the pool is beautifully clean as are the grounds, and one thing we noticed is that each cabin is sited very smartly such that you know there's other cabins but you don't really see or hear them -- it feels private. The owners are just fabulous - responsive to anything you might ask and yet leave you be to just enjoy yourselves. In fact, they went above and beyond the call of duty (far above) when our kiddo left a beloved stuffed animal behind - rushed to call and send it to us, which was exceedingly kind. (Was already going to leave a 5-star review before that, but just noting it as an example of how well they take care of guests, even after the fact!) Would stay here in a heartbeat again and we hope to be back! I looked at so very many places before we booked this one, and we were relieved and happy when we walked in. This is it. Total gem.

We enjoyed staying at Hugo. It was more in the woods than the other cabins so we would see deer when enjoying the fire pit. The cabin is one room. Perfect for a small family. The WiFi only works at the pool. There is a window ac unit, turn it on as soon as you get there to cool down the cabin. Nice little pool. Nice families. Close to keystone. Nice kitchen.
