Detailed Reviews
The staff was friendly enough, and the room was ok, I do think the cleaning crew could vacuum a little better, and the room had a slight odor. I really like the set up, where I can park right in front of my room and I have a door leading to the outside right from my room. That made it easy to take my dog outside to potty. That leads to the reason I am leaving a lower score. Their yard (grass areas) was so full of poop, it was disgusting. I had to walk my dog across the street for a poop free yard, and even there I had to be careful. I would never leave my dogs poop on the grass and not pick it up! It’s really sad that there are so many dog owners that would just leave their dogs crap for someone else to pick up or step on! I think the hotel needs to do something, I didn’t feel safe walking my dog in their yard, it probably contained giardia. It might encourage people to pick up their dogs poop if they would put garbage cans around for people to discard it in, maybe with a sign to ask people to clean up after their pets might help out? In any case they should have that picked up for health reasons! It was disgusting! If they picked up their yard, I would probably stay again, but because of that yard, I’ll never go back!

We chose the Kelly Inn as we were traveling with a dog and needed accommodations for the night while we were heading to and from the Black Hills.. When we first arrived, the woman at the front desk sent us to rooms that hadn't been cleaned and were utterly disgusting. We were able to get moved to rooms on the first floor which were much better. The first floor rooms have both interior and exterior doors, making it quick and easy to take the dog out when he needed, One thing we discovered after the fact is that the beds in the room weren't the same firmness. One was moderately soft and the other quite firm. We stayed on two different occasions in different rooms and this was true each time. The pool and hot tub were were lovely, although there were no towels available for use. Breakfast was pretty standard fare with a waffle machine, yogurt, prepackaged muffins and a rotating warm option. Areas that could use improvement: the tub was extremely slippery and dangerous; the staff was not particularly friendly or welcoming; and a staff member's kids (2 under age of 10?) were messing around in the pool unsupervised for hours, nearly jumping on other swimmers and making fun of people.

The outside and lobby appearance are welcoming, but rest of the hotel needs updated. King accessible room was excellent as far as being able to park right outside our room. The bathroom was clean, but carpet was very stained, room smelled like smoke! Front desk indicated last occupant had been there 4 days and may have smoked in the room. The bed looked like someone had laid on it after it had been made but sheets did appear to be fresh, just not made very tidy as expected for normal hotel standards insuring comfort in cleanliness. Was told they would address cleanliness of room with cleaning staff as some were very new. Was surprised at the lack of customary breakfast items. Only a few individual boxes of cereal, no pastries at all. Scrambled eggs with sausage was basically the only option. Would probably stay here and give another chance because of convenience of the accessible room and price.

We have stayed at this hotel for over 10 years and this year, something has clearly changed. It has majorly gone downhill.
I booked this hotel, for our annual hunting trip, in June and requested an outdoor entrance room, which usually costs more. When we arrived, I was told they were all occupied and the same cost as the 2nd floor room we got. The check in process took almost 30 minutes because the front desk person, Lori, couldn't figure things out. She kept saying our room was occupied but shouldn't be and kept staring at the screen. I wasn't sure we were even going to get a room.
Our drain in the shower and sink didn't work at all and by the end of a short shower, you were standing in 4 inches of water. The tub surface was disgusting and appeared permanently dirty.
The room smelled of body odor and just felt dirty.
The key for the room took at least 10 swipes each time, to get it to work.
The breakfast has been majorly downsized, even though the hotel was completely full for the weekend. There used to be large roaster pans of eggs, sausage, etc but now it's a 3 spot crock pot warmer and tiny. It was constantly out of food and they were really slow to replenish it.
My biggest complaint is that we stayed there for 3 days and they never cleaned our room nor did they bring any clean towels. I'm not sure why.
We ended up leaving a day early because this place wasn't up to our standards for the price we were paying, which was $160/night.
Don't waste your money here anymore. Kelly Inn, do something to fix your place!

First looked at room 208 on 8/21/23 at Kelly Inn and Suites in Mitchell SD, there were two bulbs burnt. Went back to the front desk requesting a different room. She said they were full and didn't have other rooms after checking so she said she would change the bulbs. After we went back to the room, the light bulbs were changed, but noticed a) carpet could have used better vacuuming b) shower curtain rod ends were semi detached making the middle of the rod hang lower and the shower curtain would not remain closed. Later in the evening, noticed that the parking lot was less than half full.
Additionally several sets of room key cards did not work for the outside entry doors so was locked out, needing to either walk around to the front or request help from others in my group. Overheard the front desk person talking to another guest about key card issues. After the 3rd set of key cards, decided to just drop the issue and not return. In the morning when loading the luggage, noticed that the back parking entry doors were no longer locked with the key-cards.
Sad part about this is that years ago we had a great experience.

We stopped early as a result of a wind storm on the interstate, choosing this hotel as pet friendly. Our room needed to be vacuumed when we moves in. After cleaning it up, we had a good night with our two dogs, until we got up and both of us had a dozen bites on us. Fleas? Bed Bugs? Don’t know, bit I would never stay there again!

The rooms are unfortunately run down, a bit musty and unfortunately not cleaned. At the entrance to the room, I gathered five dead cellar rattles and put them in the trash. I can't imagine them crawling in and dying from the time they cleaned the room until I arrived a few hours later. So it was not cleaned.
Breakfast was ok. Unfortunately, as in any Motel, there is a lot of waste at breakfast because there are only disposable dishes.

Recently took a road trip across South Dakota, and stayed here 1 night.
The location is perfect! Very near I-90, and multiple stores, restaurants and walmart.
Upon check in the staff was friendly, wore a mask and had plexiglass on the counter. However, I did notice a bit of a musty smell, but thought maybe it was just due to pool/spa area being just off the front desk. During this covid time, they did not offer any sort of 'to go' foods for breakfast.
The bed was comfortable. The bathroom sink was just off the bedroom area, outside of the toilet/shower bathroom.
The hotel room needs some renovation however. The heating/air unit was loud and constantly ran. Perhaps we just had a bad room, but the wallpaper was peeling in the corners/near the ceiling. I opened the curtains in the morning and noticed the sill of the window was black. I took a tissue to it, and it appeared to be black mold (that explains why the room also had a 'musty' smell to it).
I understand this hotel is older, however I don't think it is in need a major reno, but there are small things that staff/maintenance could do that would make a big difference in the impression it leaves travelers.
I would not return to this location unless some improvements took place, and at this point wouldn't recommend to friends.

Gave one star because zero is not an option. At the time of our mid afternoon arrival in May for our previously reserved booking at the Mitchell Kelly Inn and Suites, we found that the lobby smelled musty and looked to be dirty with seriously worn furniture. After asking the young woman at the desk to see the room before I completed booking in, she took me to a dark hallway which smelled even worse and was obviously in the middle of some sort of construction. Dust floated in the air and the smell was musty and damp. The room was in the same condition as the lobby. I told her that I was not interested in staying and would like to cancel the booking. After several phone calls between the booking agent and the hotel, I was advised that the cancellation would be completed. It was not...our credit card was billed for the night although we never stayed. Fast forward two months and several more emails and messages and still no refund for the billed room. So...not only was the condition of the hotel substandard, we have been ignored by the staff and booking agent in our requests for the erroneously billed room charge to be refunded.
Do yourself a favor and drive another hour to the Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center at Cedar Shore in Oacoma. There we had a lovely lakeside room for just about the same price as the Kelly Inn's awful room, were treated by friendly and efficient staff, and enjoyed a delicious dinner in their Bridges Restaurant. Definitely a better choice!

With excellence pictures on line we expected better than what we experienced. Dated bedrooms, strong cleaning supply smell in hallways, bath tub had worn spots, handle fell off toilet, hubby had to try and fix in middle of night. Breakfast was dismal. For off season, price was high $100. Only positive is they didn’t charge for pet. If you don’t expect much this will be fine. I don’t require much but for $170 it could have been a tad better.
