Although Newton Fork Ranch is a half-mile from Main Street, Hill City our cabin rentals (both log and historic) are quiet and secluded. Our well-appointed accommodations will await you after a day of hiking and biking on the 109-mile Mickelson Trail, which runs through our property. We have a private access gate that opens directly onto the trail. If you are looking forward to some of that famous Black Hills fishing, Deerfield Lake is just up the road. And Hill City, with its many art galleries, restaurants, award-winning wineries, and gift shops is only a ten minute walk into town via the scenic Mickelson Trail. But the ranch is also known for its peace and solitude so before your day of sightseeing begins, picture yourself lingering over a cup of coffee in the morning as whitetail deer graze in the meadow beyond. And after a day of touring, imagine curling up by a fireplace in the afternoon reading a book or enjoying a glass of wine on the deck. A truly magical experience!

It is true the place stays with you, part of me still feels that I am there. We stayed in the forest haven cabin for 5 nights. The cabin was clean on our arrival. Well appointed for those who want to cook meals, I made several breakfasts, but we ate out for the rest of our meals, easily could have made a pot of soup, or baked a cake etc, as they had the utensils provided. It was lovely not having the noise & negative of tv, this may be a downer for some, for us, it was appreciated. We really enjoyed the deer, they would eat around the cabins each morning and evening, I chopped up some apples to throw out a few times, the turkey's enjoyed them as well. I figure apples would be a natural snack ;) The bedding was divine, fluffy pillows, one downer would be the sleeping loft, we are both taller people, and we couldn't stand up, and we both take a few trips to the bathroom at night, so the stairs to get down were scary, so we ended up just sleeping on the pullout downstairs for the rest of our stay. The fireplace is electric, not wood, and it was the source of heating, it did that just fine. One other issue, and this was just for me, cause my husband always just takes showers. We did quite a bit of hiking while there, I brought bath salts etc for soaking after a day of hiking, beings there was a clawfoot tub, but it would always run out of hot water when it got to just over my legs, so laying back and soaking in a half full tub was out, I did try boiling some water in their soup pot and added a couple pans, but it still wasn't enough to give me the soaking I wanted. I was bummed to be honest, it was my first time in a clawfoot and really pictured have some good soaks. I realize it is a cabin after all, and they are likely limited on the amount of hot water they can supply. But, we both loved our stay, the quiet, the wildlife, the deer are precious & I miss them LOL..the owner graciously visited with us about places to try out while in the area, wish we had taken her up on a few more, cause the one we tried ended up being our best meal of the trip, that was at the Prairie Berry Winery tho it was quite busy..........the layout of the property at Newton Fork Ranch is perfect, simply beautiful, nicely done folks!!

My husband and I stayed here for three nights on our 2 week trip to South and North Dakota. We stayed 8 places and this by far, was one of our favorites. We stayed in the Deer Hollow Cabin. Loved the serenity and all of the wildlife. The porch was perfect for a bottle of wine and watching wildlife. Many deer and wild turkey. We even saw two young bucks playing and gnashing their antlers together. We walked a bit of the Mickelson Trail that runs right behind the property and saw a beautiful sunset. Cabin was very clean and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Shower was pretty and spacious w a great rainfall shower head. Parking right behind cabin at back door. Cabins are spaced well enough that you feel secluded and private. Only negatives would be my husband felt a bit cramped in the A frame bedroom but we only slept there so it was fine. Also had an issue w yellow jackets being in cabin. We used a provided fly swatted to kill several. I'm sure it was the time of year. We would definitely stay here again when in the area.

I am delighted to learn that you awarded us 5-stars and felt that we were among the top favorites of your 8-cabin stay vacation. Thank you! We thoroughly enjoyed having you visit us and are so pleased that the wildlife provided some entertainment. No doubt, it was a much needed respite from the current 24-hour news cycle. Regarding the yellow jackets, I inspected your cabin after seeing your review and found a very small nest outside that I sprayed. If you return, and I hope you will, please always let us know if there are any concerns and we will address them quickly. Luckily the forest welcomes deer year around and certain insects only seasonally. Thank you again for your kind and much appreciated review. We feel extremely fortunate to have been one of your choices!

If home is where the heart is, ours is Newton Fork Ranch. The ranch truly delivers - quaint cozy clean cabins, privacy, peaceful & quiet, wind blowing through the trees, unobstructed star filled night skies, soothing rippling water flowing through the creek, wildlife, gate access to Mickelson Trail - all this and much more just minutes from Hill City. The ranch owner and amazing staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Ranch “magic” stays with you long after your visit! We have visited 8 yrs in a row! Yearning for our next visit.

The real “magic” to Newton Fork Ranch is guests like you. Over the years, I have marveled at the lovely quilts you have made and brought with you. It takes such creativity and skill to take disparate swaths of fabric and put them together in a symphony of color and design. Now, that’s real “magic.” So your words of love for the ranch are a truly treasured compliment. For us, it’s pure poetry. Rest assured, you will always have a “home” here and greeting you will continue to feel like welcoming family!

We stayed in Timber Haus. The booking site said a minimum of a 3 nights stay. We only wanted 2 nights. The nights we wanted we're open so we took a chance and called. No problem. Very friendly and accommodating. The cabin was super clean. It was stocked with everything you could possibly think of needing. Every evening we watched the deer. The view off the deck was beautiful. The owner was very friendly. We will go back.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in the Harney View cabin and from the moment we stepped through the front door, knew we wanted to come back. The cabins are filled with everything you need, as well as special little touches for an authentic cabin in the woods experience. If you are looking for an ideal location to experience all the area has to offer - Devil's Tower, Custer State Park, Rushmore and the Badlands - look no further. From booking to checking in the process couldn't have gone smoother and the cabin was spotless.
