First time camping with the family in the Black Hills and we picked the perfect campground. We had a tent site and all 3 of the kids enjoyed the vacation too. The campground is clean and quiet as it is away from the main highway. Close to Custer State Park. We had a beautiful vie

we stayed for 6 nights. Very quiet, clean campground, spacious spots. Staff was great. Very convenient location - between Hill City and Custer, right down the road from the scenic byways. Loved it!! We would stay there again for sure.

We stayed for 5 nights and had no issues. It was a nice, comfortable stay. All the hookups worked for our camper. We really liked the movie rentals available in the main office. They had ice, firewood and a few groceries like milk and eggs and necessities. The coffee bar was nice

This campground was great. Rustic and hidden away but still well kept and clean. Three peaks surrounding the grounds make for great surroundings and views. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean facilities. Super close to do many things like Sylvan lake, hill city, mt. Rushmor

Is this away from noisy roads? Are Rv sites spread out or on top of each other?
I honestly never heard the road and we were in the second row back behind the office/store. The road isn't that heavily traveled anyway but no, never noticed sounds.

How far is shower house from Rv sites?
A very easy, short walk. There are two or three, I believe ... one is ADA-compliant. I only walked by one RV and up a short road, less than 2 minutes. Easy ... and they are nice.

Does anyone have a picture of the campground map? Can't find one anywhere?
Hi.. We were just there in September, I don't remember seeing a map of the campground, but I might be able to answer a question about the campground. =)

What do you need if you stay in a cabin
Thank you for Your interest in Horse Thief Campground. Our Cabins are one or Two Room Sleeping Cabins, They are just a Open Cabin With Either a Full Bed and a set of Twin Bunks or a Full/Twin Bunk with a Twin/Twin Bunk Bed. The cabins have Heat/AC and a Small Refrigerator. They also have a covered Porch with a Porch Swing and you own fire-ring and picnic table. They all utilize the Bathhouse and you would need to provide your own bed linens/Towels and camping gear. Pictures of the cabins and a video tour of our campground may be accessed on our website. Please feel free to contact us at 605-574-2668 if you have any additional questions or we can assist you in making a reservation. We look forward to talking with you soon. Are their typically sites available, mid week without reservations in Mid October?
I think that Horse Thief's season ended September 2.

"There are some tent sites on a hill, which can make sleeping a little uncomfortable."
